Chapter 313 The Long-Awaited Face
Freya panicked and quickly turned her head, fearful of being discovered. Eric noticed and blocked her with his body, lowering his voice as he asked, “What’s wrong?”
Freya whispered, “I ran into someone I know from back home.”
As they spoke, she glanced over again, making sure she hadn’t mistaken him. It was indeed Ronan Vega. She hadn’t expected him to be here.
“Don’t worry, with your mask and the dim lighting in the venue, he won’t recognize you.” Said Eric.
Freya only felt nervous because she suddenly saw him. But now that she calmed down and thought about it, she was sitting behind him, making it unlikely for him to notice her. Besides, with her current appearance, she probably wouldn’t be recognized. She gradually calmed down.
Soon, the auction began. The organizers gave a brief introduction before moving on to today’s main theme. This time, the focus was on cultural relics and jewelry. The first item up for auction was a painting. This was a formal auction, but it couldn’t guarantee that every antique was authentic. It required the auctioneer’s experience and discernment.
Eric seemed calm as if he wasn’t interested. Freya didn’t understand much about these things, but since she was here, she treated it as entertainment.
“Usually, the first few items are just warm-up pieces, not worth collecting. The real treasures will come later. Based on my experience, there will always be a few rare items at every auction. I also heard that there will be a castle up for auction this time.” Eric said.
Freya raised an eyebrow and whispered, “Even buildings can be auctioned?”
Eric laughed. “Of course. I heard it’s from a descendant of a French noble family. They’re selling their ancestral property because of financial difficulties.”
Whether it was their conversation or not, it caught the attention of the people in front. Ronan turned around and saw someone wearing a mask in this kind of setting. His brows furrowed involuntarily. It piqued his curiosity.
Freya glanced up and saw him looking at her. She quickly lowered her gaze and pretended to be engrossed in the bidding sounds, using them as an excuse to turn her head away from his line of sight.
Soon, the second item was presented. It was a rare strand of emerald green jade, with impeccable quality in terms of color, clarity, and roundness. Eric seemed visibly interested. But he didn’t rush to place a bid.
However, at that moment, there was a commotion near the entrance. It seemed like someone was entering at this late hour. Freya looked over.
A tall figure walked in, surrounded by a group of people.
Freya even forgot to breathe.
It was him, he actually came too.
The organizers had reserved the best seat for him, respectfully leading him to his place. Eric noticed and immediately looked at Freya. Freya was visibly tense, her body stiff with nerves.
Eric lightly touched her arm and asked, “If you’re worried about being discovered, I can take you away right now.”Belongs to © n0velDrama.Org.
Freya couldn’t stop her gaze from drifting towards him. In the dim lighting, his face was slightly blurred. She was too far away to see him clearly. But she couldn’t help but want to look at him.
“Let’s stay until it’s over.” She whispered.
She wanted to look at him a little longer. How many times had this man appeared in her dreams in the past six months, more than a hundred days and nights? Perhaps there wouldn’t be another chance in the future.
Eric didn’t win the bid for the jade.
The third item was a china thing. There was continuous noise around, as if many people were interested. Ronan occasionally glanced towards Elijah. It seemed like he wasn’t here to bid for anything. He was here to keep an eye on Elijah. And in Freya’s heart and eyes, there was only that long-awaited face. She tried her best to restrain herself, but the gaze of someone in love was truly hard to hide.
“I’ll go to the restroom for a moment.”
During the intermission, Freya quietly slipped away. Inside the restroom, she splashed cold water on her face repeatedly, trying to clear her mind and calm herself down. After a while, she finally managed to regain some composure. She put on her mask and prepared to return to the venue when she saw Elijah standing by the floor-to-ceiling windows in the lobby, talking to a foreigner. She was too far away to hear what they were saying.
Elijah’s expression was too cold, devoid of any emotion. She couldn’t discern his current state of mind. It seemed like he sensed someone watching him, and he looked up. Freya realized he was about to look in her direction, so she quickly turned around. She panicked and accidentally bumped into someone.
“Who?!”
She looked up.
