You Are My Mr Right

Chapter 282 Falling Ill

Freya woke up, her nose filled with the faint smell of disinfectant, a familiar scent. As a doctor herself, she knew that she was in the hospital. She slowly opened her eyes. The light from the ceiling was dazzling and painful to her eyes. She closed her eyes.

After a while, she opened her eyes again. Linda was holding Kai and when she saw Freya awake, she let out a sigh of relief and said, “Ma’am?”

Freya tried to sit up but found herself completely weak, without any strength.

“The doctor said you’re weak, so you shouldn’t get up. Just rest well,” Linda said.

Freya looked at her son and reached out her hand towards Linda, “Linda, give me Kai.”

Linda placed the little boy on the bed.

“Linda, I want to hold Kai.” Said Freya. Linda understood her meaning and that Freya didn’t want anyone else in the room.

“What do you want to eat? I’ll get you something to eat.” Asked Linda.

Freya had no appetite, and she really didn’t feel like eating.

“The doctors said you’re weak, but you should eat a little. Not just for yourself, but also for Kai. Do you have the strength to hold him now?” Linda pleaded.

“Okay then.”

“You rest well.” With that said, Linda walked out of the room and closed the door.

“Ma… ma…” Kai nestled against her arm, his hands moving around, grabbing her hair one moment and her clothes the next.

The weather was getting cooler. Kai was wearing overalls that Freya had recently bought for him, new autumn clothes for him. He looked adorable in them.Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.

“Ma… ma. Ma… ma…”

His soft voice melted her hearts, but those were the only two words he knew, he couldn’t say “Papa” yet, nor any other words.

Freya held him to her side, gently stroking his cheeks. Kai was well-behaved, not crying or fussing, but not exactly still either. His little legs were lifted up, kicking and moving around. Linda was not around, and Freya was feeling really unwell. She couldn’t help but call her mother.

As soon as Elowen heard that Freya wasn’t feeling well, she hurriedly asked, “Are you sick?”

“Not really, I think it’s just because I’ve been working too hard lately. I’m not feeling well and I can’t help Linda take care of Kai. I’m afraid she’ll be overwhelmed on her own.”

“Alright, which hospital are you in? I’ll come over right away.” Elowen said.

“Harmony & Mercy Hospital.”

The phone hung up, and Elowen rushed over as quickly as possible. As soon as she saw Freya, her first question was, “What did the doctor say?”

Freya didn’t even know who had examined her, but to reassure Elowen, she smiled and said, “It’s nothing serious.”

“Don’t say it’s nothing serious when you’re lying in a hospital bed.” Elowen felt both worried and angry at Freya for not taking care of herself.

Freya chuckled.

“Mom, take Kai home. I don’t like the heavy atmosphere in the hospital, and he’s still too young.”

“Alright, but what about you?” Elowen replied.

“Linda will be back soon.”

Elowen nodded. “Okay then.”

Elowen went to pick up the child, who was sleeping in Freya’s arms. Kai’s hand was still gripping Freya’s hair, and Elowen slowly pried his fingers open.

“Mmm-” Kai stirred as if he was about to wake up.

Freya whispered, “I’ll handle it.”

Elowen sat by the bed, watching her daughter. “I noticed something was off with you last time, and it’s only been a few days, but you look even thinner. Tell me the truth, did you and Elijah have a fight?”

Taking advantage of looking at Kai, Freya avoided Elowen’s gaze. “Why do you always overthink things?”

“Am I overthinking?” Elowen said. “I just want you to be well. Do you think I want you to be unhappy?”

“Elijah and I are doing fine, we didn’t fight.” Freya said.

“That’s good to hear. Women shouldn’t be so stubborn. Don’t focus all your energy on your career, put it into Elijah. For a woman, family comes first, and career comes second…”

“You’ve put all your energy into family, are you happy?” Freya didn’t want to hear Elowen nagging and blurted out without thinking, but immediately regretted it. “Mom, I’m sorry…”

Elowen, who hadn’t managed her own marriage well either, didn’t blame her daughter, but it still hurt to be reminded of her own experience. She held Kai in her arms. “Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of Kai.”

Freya felt guilty. “Mom…”

“Alright, can I still be mad at you?” Elowen interrupted her. “Rest up.”

“Mm.”

Not long after Elowen left, the door to the hospital room was pushed open. Freya looked up.
