Chapter 1387 The Same Family Name
Chapter 1387 The Same Family Name
Darren and the others carefully studied the map.
If the map was accurate, then the inheritance could be found in a cave located within a mountain.
However, that mountain was apparently above a star.
"Is this right?" they muttered to each other, squinting at the map. "How can we go above a star? And
how could a mountain be located above a star, anyway?"
They wondered if perhaps the map was mistaken. After all, the Archean stars were in the depths of
space. How could they fly over there? It seemed to be an impossible task. In the darkness of the void,
there were various kinds of violent, turbulent energy. Only an extremely powerful creature, such as a
supreme god or a chief god, could step into the void of space and hope to survive.
"Darren, look," said one of the men, pointing at the map. "There's an interesting path here...It looks like
it leads to a village which has a transmission array." Everyone bent over the map to look at the path.
"Well, that definitely looks like a transmission array," someone agreed.
"That explains it, right? To reach the star, we have to go through this transmission array," said another
person.
They discussed the risks of such a route, as well as their other available options. Finally, they reached
an agreement.
The village marked on the map was their best shot. If they could find the transmission array, they could
be able to reach the star in the void.
"Look closer at the path," someone said, pointing at the spot where the route ended. "It's incomplete,
see? We might have trouble finding the exact location of the village." Everyone frowned. It was true.
The path ended before it reached the village. They would have to navigate the gap on their own.
"Darren, what should we do?" Eallard asked. The others turned to Darren too, waiting for his decision.
He thought for a moment, then said, "Wait here. I'll inquire about this and return as soon as possible."
Without any further delay, Darren took the map, then leapt into the air and flew away. His sudden
departure left everyone confused. They looked cautiously at each other, wondering what Darren had
meant. Who was Darren planning to ask about the path? Was there anyone else nearby?
Darren flew quickly, and soon arrived at the spot where he remembered seeing the straw man and the
straw girl.
"Hello, Wind, Rain," he said calmly.
Wind and Rain were in a daze in the wilderness. Except for their eyes, which flickered towards Darren
as he landed, they were motionless.
"Why haven't you left yet?" Wind asked without inflection.
"I'll be leaving soon," Darren replied. He came closer, taking out the map. "Wind, do you know how to
get to this village?" he asked, pointing at the correct spot.
When Wind saw the location of the village on the map, his eyes flickered again. He seemed to have
been caught by surprise.
"I don't know," he said after a moment's hesitation. Darren raised an eyebrow. Wind was a bad liar.
"Brother, you know I can tell that you're lying. You know how to get there, right?" Rain chimed in.
"I don't know," Wind replied, more quickly this time.
"You know! Well, I see. Mother must be there too—because you are reacting now the same way you
did before, when I asked you where she was."
After all, Rain was much smarter than Wind. She had always been able to tell what people were
thinking, just by studying their expressions and listening closely to what they said.
"Nonsense. Mother has left; she hasn't been there for a long time," Wind snapped. Rain pointed at
Wind with her finger.
"You!" she exclaimed. "So you do know where Mother is! Tell me now, or I swear I will no longer
recognize you as my brother."
Wind was silent, looking trapped. He instantly regretted his rash words.
"Tell me!" Rain demanded again.
She rushed over and grabbed Wind's arm.
Wind stayed silent.
Rain bit his arm, but Wind was unmoved. Rain released him and ran towards Darren.
"I know that village," she said. "I'll take you there." She turned to give Wind a hard glare.
"Well..." said Darren dubiously. "If your elder brother doesn't agree, that may not be a good idea," he
added.
Rain scowled. "Are you going or not? If you go, I'm coming with you. And if you don't, you'll be sorry,"
she said threateningly, raising her arms.
Darren glanced at Wind, who still didn't say anything. "Fine," Darren said with a shrug, deciding to take
Wind's failure to object as agreement with Rain's proposal.
"Let's go, then," said Rain immediately. She took Darren's hand in hers and walked forward.
Suddenly, Wind spoke up. "Wait for me, Rain."
He realized that he had no other choice. Now that his sister knew the clue of their mother's
whereabouts, there was no way he could stop her from going to look for her. He could only follow.
Darren, Rain, and Wind returned to the others. Then, under Rain's guidance, they headed south,
following the path drawn on the map towards the village.
"Darren, are these two reliable? The younger one wanted to kill us before," Weber muttered. He had
been badly frightened by the straw girl during their previous encounter.
"Don't worry. She's different now," Darren replied in a low voice.
"All right. I suppose I should try to befriend her," Weber mused. He headed towards Rain.
"Nice to meet you, sweetheart! Let me hug you," Weber said jovially. He smiled brightly. Rain glanced
disdainfully at his pudgy face.
"Idiot! Just stay away from me," Rain said crossly.
Weber was confused.
"Do you remember that you slapped my face? It hurt a lot, and it left my face swollen," Weber
explained. He smiled again, but Rain was unmoved.
"I don't remember anything of the sort," she said.
"You've forgotten already? You lifted your leg and kicked me..."
"Oh, you mean like this?" Rain said, leaping up.
Her foot lashed out and hit Weber.
Weber was thrown back so hard that he landed headfirst in the ground.
"Now stop bothering me!" Rain said crossly. She moved away from Weber without looking back.
"Oh no," said Darren and Finley together, sighing at the sight of Weber's predicament. Given the way
that Weber had hit the ground, his face would probably be ruined again. After that, Weber was careful
to avoid Rain.
They all continued flying, following Rain's lead. Eventually, they arrived at a small path that stretched
onward. It was shrouded in a dim yellow mist, so there was no way to see what was ahead of them.
"Brother, is it here?"
"I don't know."
"Do you want me to kick you like I kicked that fat man?" Rain demanded. She rested her hands on her
hips, glaring at her brother.
Wind turned around and looked at Weber, who walked behind them with a swollen face. He grimaced
at the sight.
"I'm a straw man. I won't feel pain," Wind said, shaking his head.
Rain changed tactics immediately. "Brother, please just tell me the truth. You know I'll keep looking for
Mother, with or without your help. Besides, what on earth are you so afraid of? Don't you want to see
our mother?" She grabbed Wind's arm, looking mournfully into his eyes.
"Of course I want to see Mother," he said. Then Wind sighed, looking down. "But there's nothing we
can do. We can't save Mother."
"Do you mean that she's been captured?" said Rain, sounding stunned. "Are you serious?" Her voice
rose hysterically as she shook her brother's arm.
Wind nodded unhappily.
"So, Mother is on that star?
The one on the map?"
Wind nodded.
"Why didn't you tell me earlier? Why didn't you tell me?" Rain asked angrily, hitting Wind as hard as
she could.
The others watched for a moment, then Finley cleared his throat and spoke. "Well, you two, maybe you
should settle this argument later. For now, let's try to keep moving. After all, there are a lot of us here,
so maybe if we all work together we can save your mother," he suggested.
Rain heard and stopped hitting Wind. She took a deep breath, glaring at him, then flew forward
furiously.
Weber flew towards Wind. He sighed. "Wind, your sister has a terrible temper. She's done me serious Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
harm, but I can't even confront her about it or she'll just kick me again."
Wind suddenly turned towards Weber, lifting his arm.
He slapped Weber forcefully. Weber's head snapped back, and he spat out a mouthful of blood.
'Do you two have to be so irritable?' Weber thought, but he did not dare to give voice to his thoughts.
He glanced mournfully at Wind, feeling hurt.
Darren decided it was time to intervene. "Well, Wind, now that your sister knows the truth, we may as
well all go together. There is strength in numbers. If there is a chance, I promise to help you try to save
your mother. After all, she is our compatriot."
"Thank you," said Wind, nodding slightly. He added, "Actually, we have the same family name as yours.
My full name is Wind Chu, and my sister's full name is Rain Chu."
Darren was stunned.
"Your family name is Chu?" he repeated.
He wondered if it was only a coincidence, or something more.
"Mother used to say that our family name was Chu, and that our father was very powerful. Every time
Mother mentioned him, she would smile, but she would cry too. I don't know why," Wind said.
"Well, maybe it was because she missed him... Let's go to that village and try to reach that star as soon
as possible," Darren said.
He was now more eager than ever to meet the woman whom Wind and Rain called "Mother."
