Chapter 605
Chapter 605
Joshua chitched at Cynthia’s hand, his breaths coming in hot gusts
Pausing in her movements, Cynthia allowed Joshua to grasp her hand as questions flooded her mind. “When you went out with Yoel yesterday, did you not dress warmly enough?” she asked.
“Idk.”
“Then why do you have a fever?”
“I do not know…”
With nothing else she could do but wait for the doctor, Cynthia was baffled as Joshua’s fever did not seem to be decreasing despite having taken the antipyretics. As she mulled over yesterday’s events, she could not fathom how Joshua caught a fever. Joshua always had a healthy body. Could his two previous fevers have weakened him, making him susceptible to illnesses?
“Cynthia,” Joshua said, holding tightly onto her hand.
“Yes, what is it?” Cynthia asked, turning her gaze towards him.
“Can you promise me that you won’t leave me behind?” Joshua’s words came out in a slow drawl. Paired with his slightly pale face, he was a picture of vulnerability that called for her tender care.
“I’m not leaving you behind. Rest well, and save your strength. You shouldn’t talk too much,” Cynthia assured him, her voice
level.
Joshua found the discomfort engulfing his body almost unbearable. However, everything was tolerable as long as Cynthia was by his side.
After approximately twenty minutes, there was a knock on the door from Matthew. He looked surprised to find Joshua still in bed. He turned to Cynthia and asked, “When are we going to meet with Sean?”
“We’ll meet him later. Joshua is running a fever. We will wait for his recovery,” Cynthia said, glancing at Joshua. NôvelDrama.Org content rights.
“A fever?” Matthew cast a quick glance toward Joshua. Almost instantly, he began to suspect that Joshua might be feigning his sickness. Approaching Joshua, he felt his forehead and body, discovering that Joshua did indeed have a high temperature. Could it be genuine?
Joshua, who was resting with his eyes closed, was aware of Matthew’s suspicion. Having anticipated this reaction, he had allowed himself to truly fall sick instead of pretending
“Do we need to take him to the hospital?” Matthew asked.
“No, I have called the doctor here.”
Matthew, hearing this, ceased to worry,
Soon, the doctor arrived. After examining Joshua, the doctor administered an intravenous drip. Cynthia, seeing the doctor busy, joined Matthew in the living room to wait
“How did he catch a fever?” Matthew asked, a hint of suspicion in his voice.
“I don’t know,” Cynthia admitted. She could not imagine how Joshua could have caught a cold under Yoel’s careful
supervision.
“We should have a serious talk with Sean once Joshua is better. I feel there’s more to Josinta’s condition than meets the eye,” Matthew finally proposed.
Cynthia paused before asking, “What do you mean?”
“I don’t have a clear idea myself. However, Joshua has seemned different since last night, as if he has matured somewhat,” Matthew admitted, dropping subtle hints in his wording
“Do you mean his mental age has increased?” Cynthia questioned.
“Something like that. We should ask Sean to be certain,” Matthew slowly said.
Cynthia mulled over Matthew’s words and the events of the past few days. However, her limited understanding of child development prevented her from identifying any bocy points. After some thought, she decided to call Yoel
Voel had spent the entire day with Joshua and even accompanied him to Sean’s place. Knowing Sean’s personality, it was possible that he decided to examine Joshua on a whim.
As she was contemplating this, Yoel picked up the call.
After abriel greeting, Cynthia quickly got to the point. “When you went to Sean’s place with Joshua yesterday, did you only pick up that cufflinks that had been left there?”
Yorl was taken aback. “What!?” He wondered anxiously to himself, “Why did she suddenly bring that up? Did Ms. Yates figure something out? What should I say?”
