Chapter 1006: Mr. Nico eats for nothing
Before leaving La familia Matamoros, Micaela had a habit of saving money.
Although it wasn’t much, she had between 30. 000 and 50. 000 in savings, and Pastora Apostol accompanied her on a house-hunting day with the agent and ended up renting a small loft of only 40 square feet.
The rent was a little cheaper because of the small size of the place.
Pastora Apostol helped her get all her stuff into the house, looked at the small apartment and said, “It’s too small, it’s going to be too crowded when you get all your stuff.”
Micaela sat on a pile of clothes, tidying them as she sighed, “I’ve lived in La familia Matamoros before, I’ve never rented an apartment before, but today I realized that La Ciudad Santa is very expensive. I don’t have much money on hand, and I can’t work part time for a while, so I have to save what little I have.
Pastora Apostol rushed over and sat on the carpet to help her unpack, saying, “My mother gives me a lot of pocket money, which I don’t have much use for, so I’ve saved it, so take it.”
Pastor Apostol, knowing she would not accept it, added, “Don’t worry, I’ll count it as a loan. When you have the money, you can pay me back.”
Micaela reached out and hugged Pastora Apostol, jokingly saying, “If you hug your sister’s thighs, you’ll have meat.”
Pastora Apostol asked, “Hey, are you really not going back to La familia Matamoros and what if those from La familia Matamoros come to your door to bother you?”All content © N/.ôvel/Dr/ama.Org.
“If I really don’t want to contact those from La familia Matamoros, even if they block my front door, I have a thousand and one ways to ignore them.”
“That’s true. By the way, are you still going to England to study then?”.
At the mention of it, Micaela hesitated, “I don’t know, but most likely I won’t go.”
Pastora Apostol gritted her teeth and said, “The Matamoros family is so cruel that they won’t even let you go to school, is this really pro-life?”
“They did this to me, and one day I will pay them back for all this pain too.”
Pastora Apostol: “I’m with you.”
On her first night in the rented house, Micaela lost sleep.
Lying in her small room of less than forty square meters, Micaela looked out the window, which glowed in the late evening, and smiled bitterly as she searched for the Oxford University offer, which was tucked in a book at the foot of her bed.
Nico was right, the quickest shortcut to success for her now was not to go to Oxford, but to follow the route Nico had mapped out for her, to earn a good living first, and to have the financial means to be able to choose.
…
The next morning, Micaela was wearing a slightly more sophisticated dress, light makeup and lipstick, and the girl in the floor-to-ceiling mirror looked innocent and glowing.
Micaela took a deep breath in the mirror, grabbed her purse, slipped on a pair of heels and headed out.
As a student, she rarely wears high heels, and the pair on Micaela’s feet were still 99% new, but she hadn’t walked for long before her heels wore out.
But when she remembered what the people from La familia Matamoros had done, the pain in her feet suddenly wasn’t worth it.
Micaela soon arrived at the Amengual Group building, and this time the receptionist had the good sense not to stop her, but to let her in.
When Micaela arrived at the president’s office, she was about to call Nico on the phone when she ran into Campoverde in the hallway.
Campoverde thought she was seeing things, but when she looked at her, she saw that it was the same girl Mr. Nico had brought to his office last time.
Campoverde, who had been looking forward to eating a melon for more than a day, smiled, walked up to her and asked, “Has Miss Florencia come to see Mr. Nico?”
Micaela, somewhat startled, said, “Yes, I am here to see Mr. Nico, I have something I need to talk to him face to face.”
“Mr. Nico is in a meeting, why don’t you wait for Miss Florence in the lounge while I go and give a briefing as well.”
Micaela nodded politely and, as Campoverde turned to leave, she said, “Campoverde, now my last name is not Jane, but Yan.”
Campoverde froze, but was not surprised to see her, everyone had seen the world and who didn’t have a story, so he nodded and smiled, “Miss Micaela, wait a moment, please.”
…
Campoverde pushed his way into the meeting room and whispered in Nico’s ear, “Mr. Nico, Miss Micaela is here and she says she has something to talk to you about.”
Nico frowned slightly, Miss Micaela?
“Oh, it’s Miss Micaela, she’s suddenly changed her last name.”
Nico was a little surprised, he hadn’t expected Micaela Matamoros to have disassociated herself from The Matamoros family so quickly and completely, but she … she was clearly still a newbie, no flyer.
He had thought he could be as tolerant as she was, but now it seemed that….
Nico asked, “How did she get in without an appointment?”
“Probably the last time the receptionist saw her with Miss Micaela … so she was afraid to stop Miss Micaela.”
Nico spoke very formulaically, “No appointment, let her wait.”
Campoverde froze, what the hell, didn’t he kiss and make out with someone else’s girl last time?
Now she’s plucked … dangling, relentless?
Campoverde stood to the side and didn’t leave, Nico frowned a little and gave him a sidelong glance, “What are you still doing here?”
Campoverde: “…”
Campoverde nimbly stepped out.
Before Nico’s next eye gash could arrive.
Campoverde closed the conference room door, feeling like he was living like a sandwich, yes he was stuffed.
He re-entered the room and said politely and respectfully to Micaela, “I’m sorry Miss Micaela, Mr. Nico is still in a meeting and he may … I may not be able to see her for a while.”
Micaela, who was a calm and patient person for her age, said, “That’s okay, I can wait.”
Campoverde smiled faintly, “That’s okay.”
Micaela waited in the living room for an hour, but there was no sign of Nico.
Deciding not to wait, she got up and was about to leave the salon to go find Nico when Campoverde pushed his way in.
“Campoverde, has Mr. Nico finished his meeting?”
Campoverde: “This … Miss Micaela, Mr. Nico said he was not available today.”
“But I have something very important to talk to him, and, it was he who said that if I could imagine it, I could come and see him.”
Campoverde smiled sheepishly, “I’m not too sure about this …. But really Mr. Nico is not available today.”
Micaela was not convinced, and walked straight out of the living room and hurried into Nico’s office.
But the office was, well, empty, Nico wasn’t even there.
Campoverde gently reminded her, “Miss Micaela, I think that … you should not waste your time today, if Mr. Nico said he was not available today, he is definitely not available. It is a waste of time for you to wait here empty.”
Micaela bit her lip and smiled coldly, humph, playing a trick on her.
Micaela said to Campoverde without changing her face, “Could Campoverde tell Mr. Nico that it’s okay if he doesn’t see me today, but word will spread all over La Ciudad Santa that he slept with me and he won’t even pay for the aftermath?”
The corner of Campoverde’s mouth twitched, “…, Miss Micaela, surely Mr. Nico is not that stingy, you said …. ”
Micaela: “No, it’s just that he hasn’t given me a penny”.
Campoverde: “…”
God, when did Mr. Nico become a freeloader?
That’s shameless.
But Campoverde, as Nico’s special assistant, had to be as tough as a special assistant can be.
Campoverde cleared his throat and said, “Miss Micaela, if word gets out about La Ciudad Santa, it won’t be good for Mr. Nico, but it won’t be good for you, who is a girl, and it won’t look good.”
Micaela smiled slightly with her red lips, young and youthful but unerring, “What misconception does Campoverde have of a woman who has been thrown out of her home and has no money, I have trouble surviving and Campoverde thinks I care about my dignity and my face?”
Campoverde tapped her on the head, “Miss Micaela, I’m going to make a call.”
Three minutes later Campoverde gave Micaela an address, “Mr. Nico is now at the Ferry Bar on Long Beach Street.”
“Thank you.”
Micaela turned around with a flourish.
Campoverde: Micaela is the first woman to threaten Mr. Nico!
…
Inside the private lounge of the Ferry Bar.
Nico, Adam Rouco, Matthew and Rabago Rolan are playing cards.
A three-on-one landlord.
Nico calls the landlord.
Adam Rouco, after drawing his last card, says, “You’re going to lose.”
Nico raised his eyebrows, “I have a good hand too, Adam Rouco, I advise you not to talk so much and to be careful about choking.”
Mateo threw a gossipy glance at Nico and a grumpy grin, “I also think you’re going to lose.”
Rabago Rolan adds, “Because someone’s heart, it’s not even at the poker table.”
Mateo: “Honestly, are you hitting on a new girl?”
Nico: “New girls are old clothes.”
Adam Rouco: “Do you think Oreo cookies melt when you dunk them?”
Mateo: “Dude, you don’t understand, do you know how many flavors there are now in Oreos, coffee, ice cream, strawberry … you can eat them all week without repeating flavors and you won’t necessarily get bored of them.”
Adam Rouco: “Oreos are too sweet, I don’t like them.”
