Chapter 413
Chapter 413
Some were happy while some were sad.
When Rosetta's life was worse than death, Madeline was in a particularly good mood.
Madeline's brother, Martin, had returned. She rescued Martin and brought him back to Oasis Law Office when she went on a mission for her master. At that time, he was only a ten-year-old skinny child covered in injuries and dying in the grass by the roadside.
The tenet of Oasis Law Office was to do something good, albeit small of an act, so Madeline sent Martin to the hospital without hesitation. The doctor found that Martin was covered with bruises, stab wounds, burns, whiplashes, and scars, with almost no intact skin on his body. The doctor thought it was unusual and called the police. After the police arrived, they waited until Martin woke up from the coma.
However, Martin refused to say a word after waking from his coma. Without a choice, the police had to investigate by themselves. However, as a result of their investigation, they discovered that Martin was not from Worrick. Furthermore, his birth was not recorded in the national household system, and they couldn't find any clues. Then, the police asked him what his name was, where he lived, and who his family was, yet Martin appeared disconnected from the outside world and didn't say a word. The police had no choice but to cease all investigations.
Madeline sympathized with him, so she gave him the name Martin Taylor. She hoped that in the days to come, the teenager could get rid of the misery of the past and live a carefree life with his new name. Besides that, his hospital expenses were also covered by Madeline.
After Martin was discharged from the hospital, he still didn't respond much to the outside world. Madeline was worried about him, so she took him back to Oasis Law Office and took good care of him.
She cared for him for several months, but he would only occasionally address her as his sister. After a year or two, he fully accepted her and began treating her as if she were his biological sister whom he could rely on and trust.
Martin became a member of the Oasis Law Office. He had been out on assignment, but he returned to Dusktown for this occasion. Madeline sent a group message in the workgroup to inform all subordinates that she would marry Sebastian. A week before Madeline and Sebastian's wedding, Martin returned.
Seeing Martin, who was half a head taller than before, Madeline felt proud, as if the child in the Taylor Family had grown into an adult.
She ran over excitedly and hugged him tightly, exclaiming, "You're finally back, Martin!"
He returned the hug.
Yes. Martin was finally back! He was like a kite, and his string was in Madeline's hand. Wherever Madeline was, his root was there.
She hugged him in excitement for a long time before releasing him. She then tapped him twice on his shoulder and uttered with satisfaction, "You're getting stronger, like a real adult."
Martin was the only employee younger than Madeline in the office, and she also watched him grow up little by little. In her heart, he was like her younger brother. She once said to her brothers that she didn't mind at all that Angie was more important to them because, to her, Martin was far more important than her brothers. Since she couldn't treat her biological brothers as more important than the younger
brother she grew up with, she certainly didn't have the right to ask them to treat her better than Angie.
Looking at Martin, who was getting taller and more handsome, her eyes were filled with enthusiasm and joy. "Come on, and I'll show you where you'll stay. You can take a warm bath while I prepare something for you to eat."
She brought him to the room she had prepared for him.
The room was well organized and fully equipped with daily necessities that Madeline had set up herself. She shoved the bathrobe into Martin's hands and urged, "Go and take a shower. I'll make you something to eat."
Martin couldn't help hugging Madeline again as he buried his cheeks in Madeline's neck, thanking her, "You're the best, Madeline!"
She smiled in gratitude and patted his back. "How old are you? Why are you still acting like a child?"
Even though it appeared she was reprimanding him, she had a warm feeling in her chest.
The child who had shut himself off from the world due to the abuse he experienced eventually reopened his heart to the outside world and developed into an ordinary child under her careful nurturing. She was delighted when he whined in front of her for the first time and felt such a great sense of accomplishment!
Martin let out a happy sigh of relief when he was finally able to hug his dearest sister again. He let go of Madeline and went into the bathroom.
Then, she went to the kitchen to cook a few simple dishes and hot soup. When he had finished bathing and changed into fresh clothes, the meal was served on the table.
He sat at the dining table and feasted, boasting as he ate, "As expected of you, Madeline! Your cooking suits my taste the best."
She smiled sweetly and poked his forehead. "You've been out for so long that I don't even know if you've grown in other aspects, but you've definitely become a sweet-talker."
Martin then retorted, "No. You know I only speak the truth. I never knew how to sweet-talk!"
After pondering for a while, Madeline nodded. "That's true."
Since Madeline was the one who first encouraged Martin to come out of his shell, he only displayed his livelier side when she was around. Outside, he was just a shy and taciturn boy. He only spoke when needed and looked like an aloof and unapproachable person.
"You can't keep this up," she chuckled. "You have to get a girlfriend in a few years. Which girl would like a taciturn man like you?"
"I'm not getting a girlfriend," he replied. "I think it's nice to be alone. I don't want to get married. Quincy and Joel will take care of me when I'm old."
"Nonsense," Madeline tutted.
"I'm serious," Martin retorted. "Didn't you want to stay single forever before you met Sebastian? What's
so good about getting married? You have to be responsible for another person's life. And I can't imagine marrying someone else and living with them. I like how my life is now. I can go wherever I want and do whatever I want to do. How great!"
She shook her head and said nothing more. Her brother was still young and had just become an adult this year. He hadn't realized it yet, but his significant other might finally appear before him in a few years.
After the meal, Madeline told Martin to rest up, but he asked, "Where's Sebastian? I brought a gift for him." NôvelDrama.Org owns all © content.
Glancing at the time, Madeline replied, "He went to the office, but I think he'll be back soon."
Martin suggested, "Shall I change my clothes and wait for him?"
He looked at her with anxiety in his eyes.
Madeline was the one who watched Martin grow up, so she understood at a glance what he was thinking. He was worried that Sebastian wouldn't like him.
Smiling, she reassured him, "Don't worry. Your brother-in-law is a kind and friendly person. He'll like you."
Martin smiled a little embarrassedly. "I'll change my clothes, then."
After changing, he took the gift he had prepared and went to Sun Garden with Madeline. She brought him to the living room, and the maids quickly served them desserts and fruits. The two then chatted
while eating.
Soon, there were footsteps at the door. The living room door was opened, and Joel's light footsteps came as he greeted, "Mommy, we're back…"
Before he finished speaking, he noticed Martin sitting opposite Madeline, and his eyes instantly lit up. His voice was raised as he exclaimed, "Uncle Martin, you're back!"
