Chapter 306 Short-sightedness
“Did you meddle with Luna’s job?” Orion questioned. His voice carried upstairs, and Haley Holt could hear it clearly.
Mrs Russo sneered, “Is that even considered a job?!” She looked at her son. “Yes, I sabotaged her job, framed her for a mistake, and got her kicked out of her previous workplace. She caused a big scene at your wedding, embarrassing us. If I don’t teach her a lesson, she’ll keep pushing the boundaries.”
Upon hearing this, Haley Holt felt a sense of satisfaction. Now Mrs Russo must really despise Luna.
“Do you have any evidence, Mom?” Orion asked angrily.
“She admitted it herself, what more evidence do you need? And, Orion, you’re already married, you have a commitment to Haley now.”
Mrs Russo got angry at her son since she thought Orion was still thinking about Luna.
“You and Haley come from similar backgrounds, and the Holt family only has one daughter. When you marry her, you’re not just marrying a wife, but the entire Holt family. Where else would you find such a good opportunity?”
Orion knew his mother’s short-sightedness. He knew she had suffered a lot due to his father’s infidelity. That was why he compromised in front of his mother and gave up on Luna.
But…
“I’ve already made concessions, I’ve listened to you, I quit my job and married Haley. I’m doing everything according to your plan. In the future, don’t make things difficult for Luna anymore.” Orion said.
“If she doesn’t provoke me, I won’t touch her.” Mrs Russo also didn’t dare to push her son too far.
Upstairs, Haley Holt tightly gripped the railing. She found Orion still cared a lot about Luna. He always thought about Luna as long as she existed, didn’t he?
Orion sighed in frustration, “Mom, I hope you keep your word and don’t push your son to the point where people think he’s not a person.”
“What happened? Did Luna approach you again? Did she say you’re not human?” Mrs Russo raised an eyebrow, clearly wary and displeased.
Orion looked at his mother’s expression, helpless and pitifully shook his head. “Don’t worry, she won’t come to me again. Now, she’s completely disgusted with me.”
“What right does she have to be disgusted with you?!” Mrs Russo always believed that Luna wasn’t worthy of her son. “She’s an anatomist, dealing with dead bodies, so unlucky. How dare she look down on you? It’s ridiculous!”
“Mom, every profession has its own significance. If it weren’t for the police agencies and detectives, how could society maintain law and order? You’re wealthy, and surely many criminals would target you, right? Kidnapping for ransom? You have a secure life now, thanks to the silent dedication of law enforcement personnel.”
Mrs Russo was infuriated by her son’s words. “Orion!”
Was he cursing her?
Orion didn’t want to argue with her, he turned around and prepared to leave.
“Hold on.” Mrs Russo huffed, “You’re here at home now, go see Haley upstairs.”
Orion turned mechanically, like an emotionless puppet. He looked at his mother, “Do you want, once again, to give me some pills? So I can sleep with her?”
Mrs Russo’s face turned embarrassed. “Shut up!”
Orion chuckled, a mocking sound. It was unclear who he was mocking, as he walked upstairs. He pushed open the bedroom door. Haley Holt was sitting on the edge of the bed. When she saw him, she immediately stood up, a pure smile on her face. “Orion, is there something bothering you today? You don’t look well.”
Orion shook his head and said, “No.”
“Then why do you look gloomy?” She took hold of Orion’s arm. “Sit on the bed, let me give you a shoulder massage.”
Orion sat on the edge of the bed, and Haley Holt knelt behind him, massaging his shoulders from behind. “I’ll learn massage techniques in the future, so when you’re tired, I can give you a massage and relieve your fatigue.”
Orion said, “You don’t have to work so hard.”
“I’m not tired. Now that we’re married, and we…” she blushed, “are legally married.”This content is © NôvelDrama.Org.
Orion said, “I’m sorry, before we got married…”
“It’s not your fault, Orion. It was my own choice. I’ve liked you all along.” Haley hugged his neck.
Orion was the man she had secretly admired. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have agreed to Mrs Russo’s scheme.
Orion closed his eyes. He didn’t like Haley Holt, but he also couldn’t bear to hurt her innocence.
…
At the hospital, Sivin received a call from Freya. She had left in a hurry, and now she was already overseas. She remembered that she had left something behind, in her desk drawer. She wanted Sivin to help her tidy it up.
It wasn’t a big deal, and Sivin readily agreed. He walked to the office area and saw all the doctors from the department standing in the corridor. Sivin frowned and asked, “What are you all doing standing here?”
One of the doctors gestured towards him, signaling him to look inside. Sivin followed the doctor’s gaze and saw–
