Chapter 304 So Heartless
“No matter what you say, I won’t agree. I really can’t do this. Just let me go,” Zane tried to break free from Xander’s grip, but Xander held on tightly, making it impossible for him to escape.
Xander tried to reason with him in a gentle tone, “You’re the most suitable person for this task.”
“What do you mean by ‘most suitable’? If I go and say it, won’t Elowen be heartbroken? I won’t do this, and I can’t do it.” Said Zane.
Although his mother didn’t get along with Elowen and Freya in the past, and, indeed, his mother had many faults, he could sense the kindness from Elowen and Freya as they spent time together. Zane already considered Elowen and Freya as his own family. Elowen was like a mother to him. And now that Freya was gone. If Elowen found out, she would be devastated.
“Can’t we keep it a secret?” Zane thought keeping it a secret was better than telling her.
“When someone leaves this world, do you think you can hide it? Even if you can hide it for a day or two, a month or two, a year or two? Can you really hide it? And besides, I want you to tell her now for the benefit of all of us.” Xander looked at him, “The death of Freya is an extremely painful thing, for you and for any one of us. This unexpected accident is something we didn’t want to see, but it has happened. We, the ones who are still alive, can only continue living. I want you to tell Elowen now because I don’t want to wait a few days until Elijah is feeling better, and Elowen starts crying in front of him, which will only affect Elijah’s emotions.”
“Elijah will forget my sister in a few days? She gave birth to his child. If he’s just sad for a moment, he’s so heartless…” Zane said.
“Can’t you understand that I’m using an analogy?” Xander was almost rolling his eyes.
Seeing the way Xander looked, Zane felt like he was looking at an idiot.
“Can Elowen bear this pain? This pain lasts a lifetime. If you don’t want her to be sad in front of Elijah, just don’t let her appear in front of Elijah.” Said Zane.Owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
“She’s responsible for taking care of Kai now, and it’s unrealistic to never see Elijah again.”
“Pain has to be experienced, and a complete eruption of emotions can also be considered a good thing.” Zane said.
Xander paused for a moment, chuckled, “I didn’t expect that you’re young, but sometimes you say things that make sense.”
“Of course, we can’t hide it, we’ll share the pain together.”
…
Three days later.
Xander had transformed the villa in the hills into a palace, with an icy aura permeating the entire place. Stepping inside felt like being transported to the snowy landscapes of the Arctic.
Xander was familiar with Elijah, having some understanding of his preferences. He had managed to handle things without giving Elijah any reason to complain. A lot had happened in these three days. Elowen found out about Freya’s death. She had cried and fainted countless times. Now, she was admitted to the hospital and hadn’t eaten or drunk anything for two days, visibly losing weight.
Luna called Zane that day, but he hung up on her. Worried about Zane doing something impulsive, she rushed over to find him. That was when she also learned about Freya’s situation.
In these three days, Elijah hadn’t uttered a single word and had refused to consume anything. Today could be considered the funeral, or maybe not. Only a few people who had a good relationship with Freya during her lifetime came. But Elijah didn’t let them see her. They only stood from a distance, mourning as they gazed at the ice coffin.
The quiet space was filled with Luna’s suppressed sobbing. She was the only woman present. The others were also grieving, but their sorrow was more subdued.
Half an hour later, Evan asked everyone to leave the villa. Orion and Freya were good friends, and he had a decent relationship with Elijah, so it was natural for him to come. He came alone. He didn’t bring Haley Holt along.
Taking advantage of Zane going to fetch water, Orion approached Luna, saying, “You’re always crying, it’s not good for your throat, Freya…”
Before he could finish his sentence, Luna turned and walked away, clearly avoiding him. Orion frowned slightly, not in the mood for an argument, and said, “We can’t be a couple, not even friends, but you insist on treating me like this today?”
Luna looked back at him, wiping away her tears, and said, “I don’t want to talk to you about anything, and please, don’t bring up your issues with me today. My job is gone, not because of you, but probably because of your mother’s doings. I won’t hate you or your mother because you’re not worthy. And please, shut up and don’t talk about all those broken and rotten things from the past at Freya’s memorial service!”
