Chapter 295 Naive Moments
Freya looked over and instantly recognized him from just a silhouette. She had never been afraid while confronting Thorne. But now that he was here. She was afraid. She was afraid that Thorne had planned something against him. Thorne held her and Kai’s lives in his hands now. Elijah was restrained and powerless to act.
“He’s here, look, he’s here.” Thorne laughed triumphantly. He was ecstatic. Finally, for once, he had the upper hand against Elijah.
Elijah walked with heavy, steady steps, remaining calm and composed despite their current situation. He glanced at Freya, a flicker of concern and pain in his eyes, before turning his gaze expressionless towards Thorne. “You wanted something from me.”
Thorne didn’t know why, but he felt a genuine fear deep within him. He didn’t retrieve it himself, but instead had one of his men go get it. His subordinate hesitated, and Thorne kicked him in the rear. “Hurry up and get it.”
Trembling, the subordinate moved towards Elijah.
“Indeed, you still care about Freya. You’re actually willing to exchange her for Skyline Co..” Thorne was uncertain as he made this bet with Freya. After all, the price of giving up the entire Skyline Co was too high for just one woman.
“It seems I made the right move by using Freya to manipulate you.” Thorne tightened his control over Freya, making her wear the bomb vest and having two men hold her arms to prevent her from moving.
“I’m saving her only because she’s the mother of my child. I don’t want to be accused of heartlessness and lack of responsibility. It’s not about caring,” Elijah said, not even glancing at Freya when he spoke, feigning indifference.
Freya felt unwell, her expression dazed. All that echoed in her mind was Elijah’s words, “I’m saving her only because she’s the mother of my child.”NôvelDrama.Org owns all content.
Were all his kindness towards her just because she gave birth to Kai? Were his acts of love merely out of obligation to Kai?
With those questions in mind, she looked at Elijah and asked, “Do you… not have any feelings for me at all?”
Elijah sensed her discomfort and tightened his grip slightly. “Does it really matter? We have a child.”
She had a bomb strapped to her. If he showed too much concern for her, he feared that Thorne would harm her. He was just pretending to be indifferent.
Freya suddenly felt nauseous. Her face turned pale as a sheet. She had always believed that there was love between her and Elijah. He loved her. His distance and ambivalence towards her during this period were only because of Joan Nash. It wasn’t that he didn’t care about her, he just needed time. But now, hearing her say that he only cared because of the child, her heart-it hurt so much. If Elijah knew that she was carrying another child, would he treat her even better since she was going to give him another child?
Her self-proclaimed love, was it a joke?
At that moment, Elijah’s phone suddenly vibrated. He didn’t look at it, but instead clenched it, counting the number of vibrations. If it was three, it meant that Evan and Xander had found Kai and Elowen’s location. If it was only one, it meant they hadn’t found them yet.
One, two, three.
Stopped.
Yet, there was no relaxation in Elijah’s heart because Freya’s situation was too dangerous. He discreetly glanced towards the car and then said to Thorne, “I’ve given you what you wanted, now release her.”
“Freya is in my hands now. I’ll decide when to release her. Have you seen the bomb on her? As long as I press the detonator switch in my hand, she’ll be blown to pieces instantly. Do you really think I would easily let her go?” Thorne sneered. “Elijah, do you still have such naive moments?”
He approached Freya, looking at Elijah. “You caused the ruin of my family. I’ll settle that score with you.”
Freya opened her eyes, a hint of moisture clinging to her curled, thick lashes. In her gaze towards Elijah, there was a mixture of longing, reluctance, and undisguised sorrow. She trembled as she spoke, her voice trembling, “Kai is your flesh and blood. You must save him and take care of him as he grows up…”
Elijah frowned sternly. “Freya, what are you planning?!”
