Chapter 265 I’ll Miss You
Elijah raised his gaze, staring at him for two seconds, and spoke in a deep voice, “He’s still alive?”
Evan replied, “Yes. It was the driver who died.”
“Handle it properly and provide additional compensation for the deceased.” Elijah said.
Evan nodded in response, “Okay.”
Evan felt guilty about this incident. His target was Eric, but it ended up harming an innocent person.
“The company might need you to go there.” Evan said.
“I see.” Elijah replied. His face remained expressionless, freezing the air around him. He raised his hand, indicating that Evan could leave. These days, Elijah’s face had been gloomy. Evan was careful in his conversations with him, unlike before when they were more casual. Evan stepped back. Closing the study door, he saw Freya in the living room and said, “Could you pay more attention to Mr Silverton?”
Working in this atmosphere, being suppressed, was suffocating for them as subordinates. Even Xander didn’t want to come. He used to dislike going to the company, but now he stayed there every day and didn’t want to come to the house.
It wasn’t that Freya didn’t want to care about Elijah, but he needed some time to digest Joan Nash’s death. How long had Joan Nash been dead? Could he laugh all day? Was it possible? He wasn’t that kind of person before, and now it was even more unlikely. Freya understood the pain in his heart.
“Give him some time.” She whispered.
“Mr Silverton being like this makes me worried.” Evan expressed his genuine thoughts. He felt Elijah was too repressed. It made him uncomfortable. Even if Elijah shouted and cursed, it would be better than this silence, which made their interactions feel suffocating, making it hard to breathe. Evan was afraid that if this continued for too long, Elijah would develop some illness from suppressing it.
“I understand.” Freya said.
Evan sighed, “I’m leaving.”
Freya nodded, “Okay.”
After Evan left, Freya was about to take her son back to the room when there was a sudden sound from the study door. Elijah opened the door and saw her in the living room. He said, “Come in, I need to talk to you.”
Freya whispered, “Kai fell asleep, I put him down.”
Elijah didn’t say anything, but it was taken as his approval.
Freya went back to the room and put Kai on the bed. He stirred uneasily, showing signs of waking up. Freya gently patted his back while holding him. It took a while for the little boy to fall back asleep before Freya dared to withdraw her hand. By this time, her arm had gone numb. Her son was quite heavy now.
She walked out of the room, quietly closing the door behind her, moving her arm and heading towards the study. As she pushed open the door, Elijah turned around, his tall and imposing figure bathed in the sunlight, the intertwined rays of light reflecting on his face, making him appear even more cold and handsome.
Freya hesitated in her footsteps for a moment before slowly stepping inside. She had never examined him so quietly before. He wasn’t even thirty yet, but there was a mature aura about him, steady and passionate. At this moment, his brows and eyes, his expression, were all as calm as a still lake, unable to stir up any ripples.
Freya’s heart ached faintly. She didn’t like this feeling. She took the initiative to approach, suppressing her bitterness, raising her face and forcing out a smile. Elijah lowered his eyelids, furrowing his brows, his expression complex, so complex that no one could see through it.
“You called me, is there something you want to tell me?” she spoke first.
“Yeah, I have to go to the company.” He responded.
As he finished speaking, he added, “It might take some time.”
Freya asked, “Then, will you make it to Orion’s wedding?”
Elijah said he didn’t know. Suddenly, she hugged him, her arms tightly wrapped around his waist. “I’ll miss you.” She said.Content rights by NôvelDr//ama.Org.
Elijah didn’t move, nor did he respond in any way. His body even tensed up. Freya lifted her head, tiptoed, and went to kiss his icy lips. At the moment they touched, he moved away.
“If I don’t come back, go in my place.” He said, breaking free from Freya’s grasp. “I still have things to attend to.”
What he said meant “you can leave now.”
Freya stood in place, his rejection and indifference cutting into her like a knife, causing her pain.
“Elijah, I have something to tell you.”
She couldn’t bear this feeling. She didn’t want to be in such agony with him.
“About your mother’s death, actually-“
