Chapter 224 A Helping Hand
“What brings you here?” Freya asked Zane, surprised.
“I needed to talk to you, but your phone is unreachable,” Zane replied.
Freya took out her phone and realized it had turned off due to low battery.
“If it’s something important, can we discuss it later? I’m busy right now,” she said.
Zane seemed visibly agitated and oblivious to the current situation as he continued, “It’s about Luna, she…”
At that moment, Ronan and Rylan started arguing and were on the verge of a fight. Freya didn’t have time to listen to Zane and hurriedly stepped forward to hold Ronan back, persuading him, “Don’t waste your time fighting with someone like him, it’s not worth it, especially in a hospital.”
“Freya, I’m telling you, today I will make sure you’re kicked out of this hospital. If I can’t do that, my last name can be spelled backward,” Rylan said, thinking that Freya was backing down, and his arrogance surged as he pointed at her.
“What did you say?” Zane rushed forward, pointing back, “Who are you referring to?”
Rylan furrowed his brows, “And who are you?”
“Freya is my sister, who do you think I am? Are you looking for a fight? Bring it on!” Fearless, Zane was ready to confront him.
Ronan snorted coldly, “So, are we fighting or not?”
Rylan realized that he would be at a disadvantage against the two men facing him and instantly backed down, “Having more people doesn’t mean you’re right.”
He turned around and looked at the hospital director, “I’m giving you one day. You must make sure that Freya Stone is out of this hospital, otherwise, I’ll make sure this hospital shuts down!”
After making his threat, Rylan squeezed through the door and left.
Zane was still unwilling to let it go and wanted to go after him. Freya quickly stopped him, whispering, “This is a hospital, no nonsense allowed.”
She felt touched by Zane’s protective actions, but fighting in a hospital was not acceptable. A hospital was a place to treat and save lives, not a place for brawls.
The hospital director sighed, hands behind his back. This was not the usual simple patient dispute. Rylan was a person of influence, and mishandling the situation would be detrimental to the hospital’s reputation. The situation became quite complicated.
“Dr. Stone, you should go back for now. The director and I will figure out a solution,” Sivin Peters said.
Freya clenched her lips, “Dr. Peters, Director, I really didn’t push Liora…”
“We believe you,” Sivin Peters said.
Even though Freya hadn’t known them for long, she felt that they were reasonable people. She pulled Ronan and Zane away.
“Freya, what’s going on?” Zane asked.
Freya briefly explained the situation to them. Zane almost jumped up.
“Isn’t this a setup?” he exclaimed.
Freya looked at him. “It’s possible that your mother died because of her.”
“What?” Zane became even more agitated, his eyes widening. “I’m going to find her, where is she…”
Freya held him back. “Don’t act rashly. It’s just my speculation. I asked you to investigate someone named Liora Valentine. She hates me and Elijah. It’s possible that she used Rylan to get your mother out of prison and then used her to control you, using you against me and Elijah. These are just my guesses for now, without evidence.”
“It must be her. When you asked me to investigate, I felt like I recognized her from somewhere,” Zane concluded.
“But without evidence, we can’t do anything,” Freya said.
“Then let’s find evidence. Murder is a crime,” Ronan said while looking at Freya. “I’ll help you, how about that?”
After thinking for a moment, considering that Elijah wasn’t around and the situation was becoming complicated, Freya said, “Thank you in advance.”
“No need. Didn’t you save my mother?” Ronan smirked, a glimmer of light in his eyes.
Zane looked at Ronan with a warning gaze. “Hey, handsome guy, my sister is already married and has a kid.”
Ronan was surprised since he didn’t think his gaze on Freya was obvious earlier.
Freya furrowed her brows. “Zane, you misunderstood. He’s just a friend.”
Zane shrugged. “You may think of him as a friend, but he might have other ideas. I’m pretty sure he has feelings for you, judging by the way he looked at you just now.”
“Stop making stuff up…” Freya’s voice turned cold.
“He’s not making it up. If Elijah hadn’t gotten to you first, I would have liked you,” Ronan half-jokingly said.
Freya glared at him. “Zane is joking, and you’re joking too? Isn’t that fun? I have a lawsuit on my hands now, and if I don’t handle it well, I’ll lose my job. I don’t want to lose my job again. Because of work, Elijah and I…”
Realizing she said too much, she hurriedly stopped speaking.
Zane asked, eager for more information, “What happened between you and Elijah?”
Ronan also wanted to know, leaning in to listen.
Freya said irritably, “Stop being so nosy. Let’s think about how to deal with Liora. Oh, and what did you just say to me?”
“Luna is leaving,” Zane said. “I want you to persuade her to stay.”
Freya knew about Luna’s situation and didn’t want to advise hastily. “Let me meet her first and understand the situation before saying anything.”
“Okay,” Zane said. “But I still hope you can persuade her to stay.”
Freya gave him a deep look without saying anything. She suspected that Zane had feelings for Luna.
Ronan knew that Zane was Freya’s younger brother and was trying to get close to him. He leaned in and said, “How about we investigate Liora together?”
Zane naturally agreed. “Sure, why not?”
“It won’t be easy to find evidence of her committing murder. After all, my mom’s case is closed, and if she dared to kill someone, she definitely wouldn’t leave any evidence behind. What if that dog, Rylan, just made my sister leave the hospital?” Zane said.
“A dog?” Ronan paused for a moment, then burst into laughter. “That fits perfectly, the way he was barking and all. That description is spot on.”
Zane laughed too. “Exactly.”
“But you’re right, finding evidence of her being the murderer will take some time. Right now, we need to find evidence that your sister didn’t push her, so she can’t blame your sister and force her to leave the hospital.” Ronan thought for a moment and became determined. “Leave it to me.”
“Do you have a plan?” Zane asked.
Freya also looked at him.
Ronan nodded confidently. “I have an idea.”
“What idea?” Zane pressed for more information.
“You’ll find out when the time comes,” Ronan deliberately teased.
Zane rolled his eyes. “Whatever.”
Freya had to go to work and didn’t have time to waste. “You guys go do whatever you want. I have to go to work.”
After saying that, she walked away quickly.
Ronan patted Zane’s shoulder. “You go ahead.” After that, he caught up with Freya. “Can I go see my mom? Is that okay?”
Freya said it was fine. As long as he wore a sterile gown, it wouldn’t be a problem to go in for a short visit.
“Thank you,” Ronan smiled and approached her quietly. “Is it because of the hospital’s regulations that you’re making an exception for me?”
“It’s all within the rules. As long as the patient is stable, visiting is allowed,” Freya replied almost heartlessly. “Who are you, anyway? Are you worth me making an exception?”
“… Hey, Freya, I haven’t helped you…” Zane interjected.
…
Freya finished work and went home at 7 PM. When she reached the door, she saw Elijah’s car.NôvelDrama.Org holds this content.
Was he back?
Thinking that, Freya quickened her pace. As she entered the house, she didn’t see anyone. About to go to the bedroom, she saw Linda and asked, “Is Elijah back?”
“Um…”
Before Linda could finish her sentence, Freya eagerly pushed open the bedroom door. “Elijah–“
