Chapter 21: You’re Pettier than a Dog
Chapter 21: You’re Pettier than a Dog
A grand dinner party was being held in Seasons Hotel three days later.
The hall bustled with people and activity.
The news that the Crawford Group got a little heir traveled fast. Many people intended to play up to the
Crawford family in this circle, so they took this opportunity to ingratiate themselves with the Crawford
family, trying to build business relationships with them.
Claudia was staying in an obscure corner, sipping a glass of drink slowly and quietly.
She watched Winifred holding Conrad and smiling brightly in front of the crowd in the distance, while
the mother of the baby was completely ignored.
Winifred was simply going through the motions by inviting Claudia to the dinner party. Finally, she
wasn't even given the chance to approach her son...
Claudia dropped her head, standing there with a lump in her throat, dispirited.
“Well, well, isn’t this Mrs. Crawford?”
A sudden female voice split the air, and Claudia knew it was Amber’s voice without guessing.
Amber looked like an elegant princess in a pink dress, but she was putting on that complacent and
scornful look on her face.
“Aren’t you the hostess of the Crawford family? Look how miserable you are! You’re left alone in the
corner and nobody cares about you. You’re almost like an outsider.”
Amber always had a sharp tongue and didn’t care about other people’s feelings at all.
Claudia ignored her, sipping her drink.
“Look at you! Claudia, you’re pettier than a dog!”
Amber went on with the mean words, while Claudia took no account of what she said and walked away.
It was not because Claudia couldn’t talk, and she just let Amber humiliate her.
But what Amber said was the truth. Claudia was indeed pettier than a dog in the Crawford family...
“Don’t go!”
Amber stopped Claudia and added, “I’m right, aren’t I? Claudia, I can’t find another woman in this world
more pathetic than you. You don’t even have the right to hold your own baby...”
Claudia jerked her head up upon hearing that. She stared coldly at Amber with her clear stern eyes.
Amber hated the way Claudia looked at her. Although she couldn’t speak, her piercing and dangerous
eyes were doing all the talking.
A few moments later, Claudia didn’t want to confront Amber anymore, so she got around her and
walked away. However, Amber tripped her, and Claudia’s clutch bag fell to the floor, so she had to bend
down and pick it up.
Claudia was wearing a strapless gown whose back was trimmed with laces. The moment she bent
down, her back was fully shown while her bosom almost popped out.
The men around held their breath, their throats turning dry all of a sudden.
A wisp of hair slid down Claudia’s face, leaving a perfect curve along her cheek, making her look even
more charming.
At this point, a strong arm slipped around Claudia’s shoulders. Before the crowd could figure out what
was going on, Claudia, who was about to bend down, was pulled up.
Meanwhile, her little clutch bag was also picked up.
Dizzy, Claudia, who had no idea what was happening, fell into a pair of muscular arms.
Scott stared deeply at Claudia, his eyes full of gentleness and tenderness.
Stunned, Claudia couldn't help but step back, but she lost her balance before her tiny wrist was gripped
and she was jerked backwards.
When Claudia finally steadied herself, she was already flung behind Ben. He stared at her with cold
and sharp eyes, sending shivers down her spine.
“Thank you, Mr. Palmer!”
Ben looked at the man in front of him, reaching out his big hand.
Scott smiled calmly but stretched out his hand to Claudia instead of Ben.
“Mrs. Crawford, be careful next time!” Scott said gently, a smile spreading across the reserved man’s
face.
Any woman would easily fall for such a man.
However, Claudia wouldn’t be so foolishly sentimental, but nodded her gratitude politely and took her
clutch bag.
Scott stared at her with mixed feelings.
For a moment, everyone in the banquet hall was watching the three of them. Ben’s domineering gaze
fell upon Scott in a menacing way.
Claudia dropped her head and looked down in embarrassment, her thick and long eyelashes shiny.
She let herself be engulfed in the cloud of gloom.
“Ben...”
Hanna’s voice happened to come over to them at this moment, drawing the crowd back to reality and
breaking the ice at the same time.
“Winifred asks you to come over. We need to take a family photo!” Hanna walked up to them and said.
Hanna was wearing fine makeup, her beautiful eyes darting between the three of them. Finally, she
threw back her head and said softly, “Hurry up! Conny has to be fed in a while!”
Ben said nothing but left with Hanna.
Claudia’s heart jumped back to her stomach, but the next moment, her heart missed a beat. So Ben
was taking a family photo with Hanna?!
“Well, well... You aren’t even included in the family photo! If I’m not mistaken, you’re Mr. Crawford’s
wife, aren't you?” Amber taunted with a sneer and walked away.
Claudia and Scott were left where they were. Claudia gave a bitter smile, apologized and was about to
leave, but unexpectedly, Scott grabbed her tiny wrist and dragged her out despite her reaction.
Scott almost hauled Claudia out of the banquet hall.
Scott didn’t stop until they were in the broad and quiet corridor. He let go of Claudia, who was startled
by his might like a deer caught in the headlights. She stared at him with a slight frown.
“Don't you know what happened between him and Hanna?” Scott asked.
Claudia paused, and then her clear eyes darkened.
Ben and Hanna.
They were a loving couple envied by countless people, once called “the perfect match”.
When the two were rumored to have broken up back then, people online got angry and even claimed
that they didn't believe in love anymore!
Conceivably, those two were so madly in love at that time.
Scott could see a trace of loneliness in Claudia’s eyes, and his speculation was confirmed. “Since you
know it, why are you still living like this? Is there any point to sustain a marriage without love with your
son?”
Claudia was deep in thought, but she had to admit that what Scott said made perfect sense.
“As far as I can remember, you know better than this. Claudia, you shouldn’t have to get stuck in such a
life.”
Scott added. However, hardly had he finished his words than a low male voice chimed in seamlessly.
“Then what kind of life should she have, Mr. Palmer?”
Stunned, Claudia looked up and found that somehow, Ben was standing behind the two of them not far
away. Tall and charming, he was staring at them with bright and piercing eyes, looking dangerous.
Scott gave a faint sneer before he stretched out his long arm and took Claudia into his arms, saying in
a provocative tone, “She should live a happy life, surrounded by a loving husband and a lovely kid.”
“Well...”
Ben gave the most intense smile which could ever be produced. “wonder who is the loving husband in RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only
