Chapter 328 Waiting for His Death

Before Lewis could say anything, Conrad was the first one to pipe up anxiously. “What’s wrong? Is it serious?”

Anna replied, “I don’t know, but it looks really bad, not to mention the wound is close to his heart. I suggest you get a check-up at the hospital, Chairman Alvarez. I don’t have the courage to treat this wound without proper equipment.”

Conrad retorted, “I don’t think his heart is injured. If that’s truly the case, then-”

If Lewis’ heart got injured, how was he alive and still kicking? Then again, Conrad didn’t dare to say such things in front of his boss.

Anna stated, “It’s best to get it checked out. You should get some stitches for your wound too, or else it will be difficult for you to heal.”

She could tell Lewis’ wound was deep and hadn’t healed much. Besides, there were also traces of unknown medicinal herbs stuffing the wound, so she had no idea what Lewis’ condition was like.

The man was obviously irritated when he heard the doctor’s suggestion.

At that point, the living room was starting to become noisy. The bedroom door suddenly swung open, revealing Josephine, who walked out of the room while rubbing her eyes sleepily.

She looked surprised when she noticed the people in the living room. All traces of sleep vanished instantly.

“Madam,” Conrad greeted.

Josephine didn’t know who he was, so she ignored him after glancing his way. After that, she walked toward Lewis right away.

Upon noticing his state of undress, the young woman’s first instinct was to check his wound.

However, before she could proceed, Lewis halted her actions, preventing her from turning him around. Instead, he gently redirected her gaze to meet his own.

Josephine’s approach to examining his wound was straightforward. She would take a single glance at the injury, swiftly assessing that it had not healed adequately, and immediately proceed to provide him with treatment.

It was fine if Josephine did that when no one was around, but if she were to do that with everyone watching-

Lewis still had a reputation to maintain.

He hugged Josephine with one arm tightly while ordering coldly, “Let’s go to the hospital.

If one were to study the man’s actions right now, one would have noticed that he seemed to be chaining Josephine to his side despite his intimate actions.

Thankfully, Josephine couldn’t speak at all, which was advantageous to Lewis’ case. He knew for sure that she wouldn’t be talking dirty to him in front of everyone.

Josephine stopped struggling when she heard the word “hospital.” The hospital was definitely a good place for Lewis because the doctors there could check his wound meticulously. She was confident that the man would recover quickly there.

Sierra’s gaze kept darting from Lewis to Josephine. She didn’t know if she was jealous or angry, but the emotion consuming her at the moment was most likely a mixture of both. She balled up her fists tightly,

feeling sharp nails digging into her palms.

However, the woman didn’t show any emotion on her face.

Lewis didn’t bother looking at her. Instead, he took Josephine’s hand, grabbed his jacket, and

left the suite with her.

Sierra stood behind them while glaring at their backs. A murderous intent flashed across her eyes, but it went unnoticed by everyone else.

That bloodthirsty urge was directed at Josephine.

Subconsciously, Sierra fiddled with the black pin tucked in her pocket. At the same time, the resolve in her eyes slowly hardened.

Josephine seemed to have sensed something, seeing as she whipped around all of a sudden to make eye contact with Sierra.

The latter’s gaze made her tense up right away, prompting her to avert her gaze and lower her head before following Lewis into the elevator.

Honestly speaking, Josephine preferred the island. She and Lewis were the only ones there, not to mention the scenery there was breathtaking.

Once they returned to the mainland, the other people’s gazes stressed the young woman out. The woman named Sierra was especially scary. Josephine felt as though she couldn’t breathe when she looked at her earlier.

Soon, they arrived at the hospital.

Lewis entrusted Josephine to Conrad and told him to keep an eye on her.

After that, he headed to the inpatient department. It was very rare for the man to allow his doctor to give him a check-up.

Then again, Lewis was the only one who knew the reason why.

When the doctor was done studying the X-ray film, he couldn’t help but exclaim in awe,

is a miracle! I can’t believe your wound didn’t worsen even though you spent half a month not getting any treatment!”

Lewis just sat on his chair with an impassive look on his face. It was as if he wasn’t the injured person here.

Conrad asked nervously, “How’s his condition? Is his wound serious?”

The doctor nodded his head. “It’s not just serious-the fact that the patient is still alive is a huge miracle! This wound is literally less than half an inch away from his heart! Also, it seems that he’s suffered from major blood loss as well.

“The patient hasn’t recovered from an old rib fracture, has he? This wound caused the fragment to shift internally and injure his diaphragm instead. Look at this area. It’s already inflamed and has blood clots on it.”

Conrad approached the doctor so that he could look at the film properly, only to realize that he couldn’t understand what he just saw.

Then again, the doctor made Lewis’ injury sound severe.

The assistant glanced at his boss once again, noting how nonchalant he looked. If anyone else were in Lewis’ shoes, they would have been rolling on the bed while groaning loudly from the intense pain.

Conrad did suffer from a bone fracture in the past. He only hurt his finger, yet he couldn’t handle the pain at all.

In conclusion, Lewis Alvarez was no ordinary human being.

“Then what should we do?”

The doctor glanced at Lewis as well. Throughout all his years working in the medical field, he had never seen someone as calm and collected as Lewis despite sustaining such grievous injuries.

Hence, he asked the man, “Aren’t you in pain?”

The latter gazed back blankly. His gaze was more than enough to answer the doctor’s question even though he didn’t say anything.

The doctor coughed lightly before suggesting, “He’ll have to undergo an operation. I won’t be able to help him if he refuses to take it.”

“Must it be an operation?” Conrad asked.

He was met with another glance from the doctor. “Yeah, he can always skip the operation and wait for his death.”

The assistant was rendered speechless at that moment.

Lewis asked, “How long will the operation last?”

“It will be fast, but you’ll have to be hospitalized for half a month. If you choose not to undergo the operation, your blood clots and the inflammation will spread to your lungs in less than a month. Once that time comes, not even an operation can save your life. I’m not saying all these things just to scare

you, sir. You may have extraordinarily high pain tolerance, but you can’t rely on that ability of yours to recover from this wound.”

Lewis frowned in response. He wasn’t in a hurry to answer the doctor’s question. Instead, he asked Conrad, “Where’s Josephine?”

“She’s right outside.”

The man’s expression darkened before he rose to his feet abruptly and headed out. As expected, Josephine was nowhere to be found.

He turned to glare at Conrad. “Where is she?”

The latter pointed at the bench in the corridor. “She was sitting here just now. Maybe she went to the restroom.”

“You” Lewis, who looked calm and collected the whole time, revealed his actual emotions.

the moment he felt anger washing over his senses. His body wavered dangerously, forcing him to grab the door frame for support to avoid collapsing on the spot.

Conrad quickly steadied him on his feet. “Chairman Alvarez, please don’t worry about her. I’ll look for her right away. Madam is no longer a child, you know. She won’t get lost in this

building.”

Lewis closed his eyes in order to recover from his moment of weakness. At the same time, beads of cold sweat started seeping out of his forehead.

A while later, he raised his head to glare at Conrad, looking like he was about to murder the latter in cold blood. “Find her! Now!”

Just as Conrad was about to do so, he noticed Josephine turning around a corner and heading in his direction. A wide smile appeared on Conrad’s face immediately. “There she is!”

Lewis turned to look at Josephine.

The latter jogged toward him, soon slowing to a halt in front of him. Then, she dried her hands on her clothes.

“Where did you go?”

Josephine gestured, “I went to the restroom.” NôvelDrama.Org © content.

Conrad added, “I told you madam went to the restroom, sir. You’re too para-”

Before he could finish his sentence, Lewis collapsed on the spot without warning.

The assistant’s expression changed drastically. Thankfully, he reacted quickly and managed to catch the unconscious man. “Chairman Alvarez!”

“Louie!” Josephine was frightened out of her wits. Her eyes immediately reddened when she witnessed Lewis collapsing into a dead faint.

The doctor ditched his work and came running over as soon as he could. He propped the unconscious patient as well while exclaiming, “Quickly! We must get him to the operating room right away!”

No one knew Lewis’ wound better than him, after all.

Lewis might be putting on a marvelous act in front of others, but the doctor could see that he could no longer hold on.

The latter didn’t know what made Lewis tough the injury out for so long. Regardless, it was nothing short of a miracle that he had managed to hold on for as long as he did.

The doctor didn’t waste any time in fetching a stretcher and sending Lewis into an operating

room.
