Chapter 11 Wish To Marry Abigail
Annalise was even more perplexed. “What’s going on? What’s with this sudden and drastic change?” she wondered.
“Your medical skills must be outstanding, aren’t they?” Samuel asked.
When she heard this, Annalise cocked her head to the side and cast him a look of confusion.
“His train of thought is so haphazard. One moment, he was talking about kneeling, then he immediately talked about medical skills the next,” she pondered.
“The technique you used when hitting my back was precise and focused. It’s just like how they say that bold. execution comes from superb skills. Anyone could tell that your medical skills are outstanding.” Samuel said.
“I wouldn’t say that. I just happen to have some experience dealing with choking,” Annalise replied. “Good. Very good. That’s what I want to hear!” Samuel praised her.
Upon hearing this, Annalise was even more puzzled. “Why is he praising me again?” she questioned inwardly. Samuel then continued, “Kid, you must remember that no one truly wishes you well in this world.” Annalise’s chest tightened at this. She was very familiar with that saying. Her five mentors had always told her this since she was young.
Back when she was younger, she thought that her mentors nagged too much, but after she grew up, she gradually developed a deeper understanding of that statement.
Those words were indeed true. If even her uncle’s family, who was related to her by blood, didn’t want her to live an easy life, then why would anyone else wish her well?
Samuel then went on, “Hence, you should know how to conceal your true strengths at all times, unless you’re very powerful, or you have to learn how to hide your strengths. That’s the only way that you can protect yourself. I apologize for criticizing you just now. The reason why I kept reprimanding you wasn’t that I genuinely wanted to. It was just that I didn’t want the Barton family to pick on you. You must remember words. For incompetent people, the worst that could happen is that others would look down upon them. But for those who are too outstanding, many would want them to disappear.”
After Annalise heard this, she was stunned. She looked up at Samuel.
It was only then that she knew he only criticized her just now to protect her. He was just worried that the Bartons would pick on her for getting in their way.
His thoughtfulness reminded Annalise of her mentors.
Her mentors would often nag at her and criticize her. However, they would teach her everything that they knew without reservations.
“Thank you!” Annalise thanked him genuinely and gave him a slight bow.
After listening to Samuel’s explanation, the dissatisfaction in her heart instantly dissipated. She felt like he was an amiable and friendly old man,
Samuel hurriedly helped Annalise up and said, “I’m not an old fool. I know how to differentiate good people from the bad.”
With that, he turned around and went over to his suitcase, pulling out a wooden box.
Just then, a few knocks came from the door. After knocking, Julian pushed the door open and entered.
“What are you doing here?” Samuel asked with a startled look.
“Grandpa, I want to take Annalise out for a walk,” Julian replied.
He had been sitting in the living room for a while, but Annalise still hadn’t come out of the room. Because of this, he was worried that Samuel had been reprimanding her harshly.
Samuel glanced at Julian before opening the wooden box. The former then took out a bracelet from inside. Handing the bracelet over to Annalise, Samuel said, “Here. This is for you.”
“Grandpa, I can’t have this!” In one glance, Annalise could tell that it was a priceless high-grade emerald bracelet.
“This is my gift to you. Take it, my child. Put it on when you step into the Parks residence in Jadeborough.”
“No, Grandpa. I can’t take this.” Based on Samuel’s words, Annalise could tell that the bracelet could bring her some sort of authority. Samuel wanted to give her the bracelet to support her.
However, she was in a fake marriage with Julian, and there was no way that she could accept something so valuable from the Parks family.
“Just take it first,” said Julian. There seemed to be a hidden meaning behind his words, and he intentionally emphasized the word “first.”
Annalise turned to look at Julian.
In response, Julian nodded at her.
Upon seeing this, Annalise then cast a strange glance at Julian again. All of a sudden, she felt that Julian didn’t marry her to ward off his unwanted suitors. Instead, their family interests were involved.
“You can’t reject a gift from an elder. Just accept it,” Julian added.
“Thank you!” Annalise thanked Samuel again as she cautiously accepted the bracelet from him.
“Grandpa, I’ll take Annalise out for a walk now,” Julian said.
“Go ahead,” Samuel responded.
Meanwhile, Abigail was overjoyed.
She had already started to look forward to her rosy future. “Dad, Mom, don’t you think that Old Mr. Parks is especially fond of me?”
Kent instantly replied, “Of course. You were the one who saved his life after all. People with his status are terrified of death. After all, they are leading an affluent and wonderful life and haven’t enjoyed enough of it.”
Hearing his response, Abigail tilted her chin slightly and smiled wide. “I still thought that it would take a bit of time for Old Mr. Parks to distinguish who was the better one between Annalise and me. I didn’t expect that he could tell at one glance. How impressive of him.”
“Of course. Just take a look at his status. As the head of a prestigious family, there’s no way that he could lead an organization to prosper if he didn’t have a good eye. Otherwise, they would have been brutally defeated by their opponents,” Bethany chimed with a smile.
“Yeah. It’s just that Julian is a bit of a problem. Mom, we have to come up with a plan,” Abigail stressed, slightly anxious.

Bethany also furrowed her brows. “They will be returning to Jadeborough tomorrow. It really won’t be us to find an opportunity to gain Julian’s favor. If only they stayed for a few more days, it would have
been easier for us to think of a plan to win him over.”
A gleam flashed across Abigail’s eyes as an idea struck her. “I’ll see if I can get Mr. Alexander to think of a way to get them to stay for a few more days.”
“That’s right.” Bethany’s eyes also lit up at her suggestion. “Get him to think of a plan. As long as they stay for a few more days, we will be able to find the opportunity.”
Just as Abigail was about to send Alexander a WhatsApp message, the latter sent her a WhatsApp message which read: “Ms. Barton, are you free tomorrow? Why don’t we have lunch together?”
Abigail replied: “I’m free tomorrow. What time is your flight tomorrow?”
She planned on chatting with him casually before asking if they could stay for a few more days. Alexander replied, “My grandpa will be returning tomorrow, but I won’t be heading back for now.”
Abigail was delighted by the news and asked: “Then what about Julian?”
Alexander responded: “He and Annalise are newlyweds. Of course, he won’t be heading back as well.” His words served as a reminder to Abigail that Julian was already married to Annalise.
“Okay.” Once Abigail knew that Julian wouldn’t be going back, she raised her brows at Bethany. The look of joy on her face made it seem as if she had just won the lottery. “Mom, Julian won’t be going back. We have to come up with a plan as soon as possible.”
Alexander then sent her another text: “I’ll see you at Love Ocean Restaurant at noon tomorrow.”
Abigail replied: “Okay.”
As Alexander looked at the WhatsApp messages, a scheming glint crossed his eyes.
Since Julian could take action before reporting to Samuel, he could do the same.
Despite that, he still decided to seek Samuel’s opinion about it.
After thinking about this, he left his room and knocked on the door to Samuel’s study.
“Come in!” Samuel answered.
At that moment, Samuel was practicing his calligraphy.
“Grandpa, I see that you’re practicing your calligraphy again.” Alexander walked over and helped Samuel lay the paper down.
“Yes. What’s the matter?” Samuel asked.
“Grandpa, I want to marry Abigail!” Alexander went straight to the point.Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.
