Chapter 23 Auction
Mia sensed William’s annoyance, “I’m sorry, William, I’m not doubting her; I’m just… worried about
you.”
William waved his hand nonchalantly, somewhat impatient, “The auction is about to start; try to stay
away from me, I don’t want Evelyn to misunderstand and refuse to help me with the land
deal.”
“Okay, William.”
Mia took out her phone, took a photo of Evelyn and Henry, and sent it to Emily.

On the other side, Emily, seeing the intimate interaction between the two, was furious. She
quickly found a phone number, hesitated for a moment, and made a call.
“Five hundred thousand, I want someone to disappear…”
The auction proceeded smoothly, and within five minutes of presenting the land, it reached a high bid of
five hundred million.
William excitedly leaned back in his chair, his hands covered in sweat, gripping the bidding paddle. ‘So
much money! Once I got it today, The Martinez family could ascend to high society and trample on
those who had bullied me.’
“Five hundred and sixty million, Mr. Fourteenth bids five hundred and sixty million. Is there any
higher bid?” The host excitedly stirred the audience.
The crowd looked at each other, thinking that the matter of the land had been settled. In a
corner, someone raised a sign high.
“Six hundred million,” William’s excited voice was a bit hoarse. He had refrained from bidding
all along, intending to make a stunning entry at the end.
Everyone looked at William with surprise, awe, and envy. Various speculations circulated
about the unknown man sitting in the corner. Was it a rising star from abroad?
“Don’t worry about it. Let’s go make friends later, and we’ll recognize them when we get there.”
As everyone discussed William as the focal point, the auctioneer’s gavel fell heavily.
The auction staff found William, had him sign the contract, and paid the sixty million deposit
on the spot. This was the standard procedure, and William was well aware of it.
He used such a large sum of money for the first time in these years. But he could coax Evelyn
into refunding the money later.
Money was indeed a good thing.
Evelyn, witnessing William falling into her prepared trap, chuckled.
As she turned, she noticed that Henry hadn’t waited for her and had gone straight to the
banquet.

Did he get angry again?
She had behaved well, not looking for William, so why was Henry angry again?
Leaning against the back of the chair, Evelyn pouted.
Men, they were really hard to please.
“Madam.” David approached, reminding her, “Although this matter followed your wishes,
please consider Boss’s feelings a bit.
Evelyn’s face darkened suddenly.
So it was because of this.
She stood up, beckoning David to come closer. In a low volce, she gave him some instructions, then
hurriedly went to the adjacent banquet hall.
David was dumbfounded, and a wry smile appeared at the corner of his mouth.
Wasn’t this too malicious?
The auction concluded, and William undoubtedly became the object of everyone’s attention,
surrounded by people seeking to befriend him.
As Evelyn entered the banquet, she saw him surrounded by a crowd, looking arrogant and
somewhat intoxicated.
She sneered and turned to Henry, but she didn’t dare to get too close..
After all, their relationship had never been made public.
Evelyn took a glass of wine and sat next to Henry, her voice sounding somewhat aggrieved. “It’s so big
here; if you don’t wait for me, I might get lost.” Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
Henry, leaning on the sofa, remained motionless, seemingly determined to ignore her, taking a sip of
his drink indifferently.
“Henry.” Evelyn approached.
Evelyn playfully placed her fingers on the sofa, like a little bug, wriggling through the unseen gap
between the cushions and landing in Henry’s warm palm. Then she scratched it.

“Husband?” Her voice softened.
Henry’s entire body was stirred by these two words. He wished he could pull Evelyn over right
now and…
But Evelyn paid no attention. Sensing someone looking over, Evelyn quickly withdrew her hand, sitting
elegantly.
