Chapter 622 Severing All Ties

Cedrick did not return to his office immediately after leaving the interrogation room.

Instead, he spent considerable time in the quiet, secluded corridor, leaning against the wall. His dark eyes were in silent introspection, deep in thought.

A subtle frown creased his forehead. He instinctively reached into the pocket of his military trousers to reach for his cigarettes, attempting to sneak one puff.

However, his pocket was empty.

Then, he suddenly recalled that she had urged him to quit smoking ever since Gwendolyn knew about his $404 RNA virus infection. Then, he recovered, and she got pregnant. She couldn’t stand the smell of smoke.

Later on, he hadn’t picked up the habit again because of the babies.

In total, nearly a year and a half had passed since he had last held a pack of cigarettes,

He abandoned the urge to smoke and pulled out his phone instead to call Logan.

“Mr. Jenson.” Logan picked up the call almost immediately.

In a frigid tone, Cedrick said point-blank, “Tell Old Mr. Jenson that I can let Xander off the hook and not hold him accountable anymore to repay his years of guidance toward me. However, Yael must pay for his past mistakes. There will be no room for negotiation. Please ask him not to interfere in the car accident incident anymore.”

His firm stance left Logan stunned on the other end of the line.

“M-Mr. Jenson, you…” Logan noticed something was amiss. Cedrick was addressing Valentino as Old Mr. Jenson instead of Grandpa.

Cedrick had always shown great respect for his grandfather, hanging on the old man’s every word. Most importantly, Cedrick had always addressed Valentino as Grandpa.

“Mr. Jenson, about this… Old Mr. Jenson…”

Logan’s voice wavered, genumely taken aback by Cedrick’s icy demeanor. He had intended to defend Valentino, but he couldn’t quite find the right words to say.

Cedrick wasn’t interested to listen, either. Tve made my standpoint clear. If he wants to save his second son’s family at the expense of his first son’s family’s reputation, then 1—”

He paused briefly, instinctively tightening his grip on the phone as his voice took on a colder tone. “Well, then I’d rather not have him in my life.”

“Mr. Jenson!” Logan cried out.

Beep-

To his dismay, Cedrick had already hung up on the call.

Cedrick tapped on his phone with slender fingers. In a decisive manner, he blacklisted Logan’s number. He had decided that he would entertain no sophistries.

Having made his standpoint clear. he turned on his heel and returned to the interrogation room.

There was a frown on his face and the cold look gave off a formidable aura. Even the policemen passing by had to steel themselves just to greet him.

The door of the prison swung open.

Yael, who was sitting in a corner, was leisurely puffing on a cigarette.

He did not raise his head when Cedrick entered and merely continued to smoke.

The oppressive aura Cedrick brought with him swept into the prison cell as the door opened.

“You seem to have learned the truth,” he remarked, sounding more at ease. “You believe that I’ve lied, that I’ve framed others, that the old man has indulged and protected me.”

Cedrick said nothing. He strode over to Yael’s side and stood upright.

Yael let out a snort. “The whole Jenson family had a hand in helping me hide the truth about the accident. I can assure you that nobody was innocent, not your grandpa, not David, not Logan, who has served the family for more than thirty years, and not even your Aunt Tania who loves you the most. Even though I had planned the whole accident, but they were all accomplices in helping me hide the truth.”

Ashe said that, his glance landed on Cedrick’s clenched fist. The sight of his veins popping lifted Yael’s mood as he took two more puffs of his cigarette. Content rights by NôvelDr//ama.Org.

“Why do you think your Aunt Tania left Chanaea for so many years, refusing to return? She’s ashamed, and afraid to face you every day. Everyone in the Jenson family knows what I did to your parents, but you’ve never heard a whisper of it. If I hadn’t exposed this, you would have remained ignorant about this your whole life. Cedrick, the relatives who’ve shown you love have all helped to hide the killer. Doesn’t that make you feel somehow….. pathetic?”

Yael let out a raucous laughter as he spoke.

Cedrick narrowed his eyes dangerously, a hint of murderous intent lurking in their depths.

“Perhaps you’ve been too comfortable in this solitary cell. Uncle Yael. Before the investigation of your attempted murder of the Director of Federal Bureau of Investigation concludes, it might be better for you to wait with the other suspects,” Cedrick remarked.

Yael huffed disdainfully. As a sly old fox, he was not at all threatened by Cedrick’s attempts at retribution.

His reaction had not gone unnoticed. Cedrick’s lips curled into a derisive smirk. “Do you think my revenge constitutes of only these menial torture before and when you’re behind bars?”

Yael’s fingers holding the cigarette trembled.

The smoke of his cigarette lingered in the air. Yael lifted his head, his murky eyes meeting Cedrick’s gaze.

The pin-drop silence in the prison cell accentuated Cedrick’s crisp voice as the latter enunciated his every word. “I’m going to hold an ancestral hall grand assembly and drive you out of the Jenson family. You, your wife, and your son will be erased from the Jenson family records. Your beloved son will never be able to return to the Jenson family. How do you think your precious son will fare without the Jenson family’s protection?”

Yael grimaced as he listened on. His fingers holding the cigarette stiffened in response.

“You’re going to chase my family out of the Jenson family? Cedrick, do you think you alone can make the call in our family?” he demanded.

“We’ll see.” Cedrick replied in a low voice, turning on his heel and leaving.

Yael refused to admit defeat and let out a low growl. “I don’t believe it! Dad won’t let you act recklessly. He will never agree to you disclosing the truth of the car accident back then to the public. He won’t

disown me. He never will!”

Without turning back, Cedrick replied with a frosty voice, “Old Mr. Jenson has retired. From now on, he is no longer the patriarch of the Jenson family,”

“Cedrick! My dear nephew! Please, don’t go!”

At this juncture, Yael finally felt the icy tendrils of panic creeping in.

Once he was stripped from the family register of the Jenson family, and void of the protection of a mighty background, he would merely be a criminal headed for prison.

His past deeds would burden Xander and even affect Xander’s future children. Bearing the stigma of having a criminal as a father, Xander would never claw his way back into high society.

Xander’s life would be ruined.

He would forever cast a dark shadow over his son’s life.

The deeper he delved into these thoughts, the more frantic Yael became. He had not expected Cedrick to be so ruthless.

Casting aside his still-lit cigarette, he swiftly got up from the ground and dashed after Cedrick, hoping to negotiate further.

“Cedrick, listen to me. I was drunk. That’s why the car accident happened. I never intended for it to happen. I’ve been feeling guilty all these years. You cannot cast me out of the family. You can’t!” Yael pleaded.

The iron door of the prison cell shut in his face, and he didn’t even manage to graze the corners of Cedrick’s clothes

“Cedrick!”

His frustrated cry echoed in the cell. Cedrick narrowed his eyes slightly. His handsome face remained impassive as he left the detention area with a steady stride.

When he returned to his office, Gwendolyn was already waiting for him at the door.

She seemed anxious as if she had waited a long time for his return.

“How did it go?” she asked, her voice heavy with concern.

Cedrick gently caressed his wife’s face. In a soft voice, he said, “Everything’s taken care of. The issues with the Jenson family will soon come to an end. We will be able to enjoy a carefree vacation soon.”

However, Gwendolyn’s worry didn’t ease upon seeing the relaxed expression on his face.

“How do you plan to deal with Uncle Yael?”

“Excommunicate him from the family, remove his elite status, hand him over to the judiciary for punishment, and send him to jail for atonement,” he answered.

Gwendolyn found the latter two measures reasonable.

However, she didn’t quite agree with the first two decisions.

“After all, he is your grandpa’s son. I don’t think he would approve of severing the father-son ties. Moreover, according to the statements, Yael was quite drunk at the time of the incident. It was drunk driving. Despite causing a serious car accident, it wasn’t premeditated. I don’t think the Jenson family would agree to expel him,” Gwendolyn reasoned.

Cedrick didn’t falter. “It was Uncle David who was drunk. Yael has always had excellent alcohol tolerance. He was sober enough to get Uncle David in on it. He was pretending to be drunk.”

He wants to find an excuse to cover up his intentional crime,
