Chapter 608 Two Choices

Cedrick narrowed his eyes as he pondered in silence.

Looking up warily, the officer asked softly, “Mr. Jenson, do you want us to bring Mr. Yael here, or do you want to see him alone in his cell?”

Instead of answering that question, Cedrick said, “Got it. You’re dismissed.”

The officer was stunned.

Huh? Does he want to see Mr. Yael or not? Since he didn’t answer me, I suppose he doesn’t want to?

“All right. I’ll be taking my leave, Mr Jenson.”

Once the officer was gone, Cedrick turned his attention to the document Nico had brought him.

It was a newspaper clipping from twenty years ago that had a black-and-white picture of a car accident attached.

A luxury sedan was crushed and ignited in flames. Given the mangled condition of the vehicle that was supposed to be built like a tank, one could imagine the gruesome fate of its occupants.

The news only mentioned the victim’s car. What about the one driven by the perpetrator? Was it a lorry? A bus? Or an ordinary sedan? There’s no way an ordinary car can deal such damage to Mom and Dad’s luxury car. Could it be another luxury car that belongs to someone powerful in Chanaea?

Nevertheless, everything was speculation on his part, for he had no evidence to prove it.

He decided to see Yael upon the latter’s request. Yet he wanted to let Yael wait for an hour so that the latter wouldn’t get carried away with thinking that he was at his mercy.

At that moment, Yael was leaning against the prison bars of his cell as he waited for Cedrick’s arrival. However, instead of Cedrick, the one who returned was the officer who helped convey his message.

Stunned by the sight. Yael grabbed the officer’s arm. “Where’s Cedrick?”

“He has no time and has a lot of work to do. He didn’t say that he’ll see you.”

Yael’s brows furrowed in disbelief. “How could he not come? Does he not want to know the truth?”

The officer calmly pried his hand away. “Mr. Jenson will investigate whatever he wants to know. No one else can tell him what to do.”

Thereafter, the officer walked away from the corridor with his footsteps fading into the air.

Yael slumped to the ground with his back against the wall as a solemn look emerged on his face. Property © 2024 N0(v)elDrama.Org.

Did Cedrick manage to find a lead? Is that why he doesn’t need to negotiate with me anymore?

No sooner had the idea popped into his head than Yael ruled it out.

He took a deep breath. Impossible. Dad would never reveal the secret, and there’s no way Cedrick can investigate something from twenty years ago. He has no choice but to come to me.

The thought helped Yael to calm himself down. He lit a cigarette and quietly waited for Cedrick’s arrival.

Without any evidence, it’s just a matter of time before he comes to see me.

At that moment, both sides were playing mind games against the other.

One hour later, the doors to the small cell swung open.

Despite the commotion, Yael didn’t bother to look up, as he already knew who it was.

“You’re finally here, Cedrick. And here I was, thinking that you’re no longer interested in your parent’s death.”

Cedrick appeared stern and intimidating in his green fatigues,

With his hands in his pockets, he looked exceptionally distinguished. He exuded a frosty aura as he stepped into the cell in his military boots.

An officer placed a chair about ten steps away from Yael.

Cedrick’s lips were tightly pursed. He sat down without saying a word.

After the officer closed the cell door, he instructed all the other guards to move away from the cell so that no one would be able to eavesdrop on their conversation.

Yael sat up straight. Cedrick’s arrival had injected him with the confidence that he had the upper hand. He puffed a smoke circle in Cedrick’s direction as if to provoke him.

With an icy look on his face and a piercing gaze, Cedrick snapped, “Stub out the cigarette.”

“Why? I’m not locked in here because I’ve committed a heinous crime. Do the rules say that I can’t smoke?”

“My wife doesn’t like the stench of cigarette smoke on me, so stub it out.”

It was an order with no room for negotiation.

Yael snorted in laughter. “Fine. Looks like you have a strict wife. I suppose we all have to bow down to authority one way or another.” After stubbing his cigarette out on the floor, he casually threw it aside. “Satisfied now?”

With an intimidating air, Cedrick looked down at Yael and got straight to the point. “I’ve captured Xander.”

Yael’s expression drastically changed. “What did you do to him? Did you send him to the high-security prison?” he asked in a loud voice.

“His fate is currently the same as yours. He’s being locked up in a cell within the Federal Bureau of Investigation,” Cedrick replied in an emotionless tone.

The lockup at the Federal Bureau of Investigation was usually reserved for suspects or to detain those who had committed minor crimes.

Although the maximum duration of their detention was fourteen days, most were just imprisoned for

seven-

Cognizant of the fact, Yael heaved a sigh of relief.

However, before he could fully relax, Cedrick continue, “That said, Xander isn’t as lucky as you are. He’s being locked up with a group of gangsters from Salinsburgh who’re in there mostly for robbery and rape. His situation is definitely less comfortable than yours.”

“Cedrick!” Yael seethed through his gritted teeth. “If anything happens to Xander, you’ll never know the truth about what happened to your parents. I’ll take it to my grave! As for you, you’ll become an unfilial son who chose to bungle the opportunity to investigate and seek justice for them.”

Cedrick’s brows furrowed slightly as rage swelled within his eyes.

Rubbing the watch on his left wrist, he kept his anger suppressed and said without showing any emotion, “You should thank me for just locking him up and not doing anything to him. If you continue to

hold the truth from me, I won’t be able to guarantee his safety from those men. You will be the one who turned down the chance to tell the truth and caused Xander’s death.”

It was clear that Cedrick not only rejected the request to free Xander but also used him to threaten Yael.

Yael ground his teeth, an insidious look flashing across his eyes. “That’s devious of you, Cedrick.”

With a slight curl of his lips, Cedrick scoffed, “You seem to think that only you are allowed to dictate the terms, while when I do so, I end up being accused of being devious. What’s the point in talking when you keep shifting the goalposts?”

Yael’s anger raged within his heart. If looks could kill, he would have murdered Cedrick many times over. Nonetheless, having weathered hell and high water, Yael quickly regained his composure.

“I don’t believe that you’ll harm Xander. You have promised Dad to spare him. Even if you were indirectly responsible for what happened to him, you still broke your promise.”

From the nonchalant look in Cedrick’s eyes, it was clear that he wasn’t bothered by Yael’s words.

“What’s the big deal about that? Once Xander is dead, I’m the only grandson Grandpa has left. He might be angry with me, but it would only be temporary, for I’m his very own grandson after all.”

Yael was at a loss for words,

Cedrick continued, “To be honest, I’m sure you know very well that I’m investigating the matter too. The information Nico provided me has given me a lead. It’s just a matter of time before I discover the truth. However, I’m a busy man. Jenson Group, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and my family take up a lot of my time. That’s why I’d rather deal with this matter in a straightforward manner.”

Yael maintained a darkened expression and refused to submit. Cedrick went on. “You have two choices before you. Tell me the truth and I’ll let Xander out of the lockup. He will be whipped thirty times and sent to a high-security prison for five years, consistent with what was previously agreed. That will then be the end of the matter. Otherwise, I’ll allow him to be bullied by his cellmates. But don’t you worry. If he ends up dying from the torture, I’ll definitely find the culprit and punish him severely. Thereafter, I’ll give Xander a glorious funeral and you the pleasure of watching your son die before you do.”

Cedrick maintained an icy tone as the merciless words rolled off his tongue,

As the decisive boss of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, he wasn’t going to tolerate anyone behaving cockily in front of him.

“Cedrick… Jenson!” Yael uttered through gritted teeth.

A smirk emerged across Cedrick’s face as he got to his feet and straightened the collar of his uniform. He turned around and left without looking back.

Before he was gone, he dropped an ultimatum. “Uncle Yael, you have two days to consider. After all, that’s probably how long Xander can last in his cell considering his constitution.”
