The Billionaire’s Pretend Fiancée

She is back

Sofie’s POV

I couldn’t believe it.

No. I’d never believe it.

He was probably traumatized by everything that happened to him, so his memory wasn’t that good at the moment.

Yes, that was it. That was the only logical explanation for whatever was happening.

“I’m really sorry I can’t seem to remember you, ma’am.” Roman began.

I stopped sobbing and just stared at him.

He gazed blankly at me, and my heart broke again for the umpteenth time that day.

Those eyes that used to hold so much love and adoration for me were now staring at me in confusion, as if I was a stranger.

Those lips that used to call me all sorts of endearing pet names now called me ‘ma’am.’

“C-Can you remember anything else?” I asked, cleaving onto the last bit of hope in my heart.Belongs to © n0velDrama.Org.

“Like the name of your company, your grandmother and your close friend.” I added.

To my utter despair, he nodded and started counting them off his fingers. “Giovanni group of companies. My grandmother’s name is Benedicta, and my close friend’s name is Damien Mauricio.”

“So I’m the only person you can’t remember then.” I muttered underneath my breath but he seemed to have heard it, as his face contorted into a frown.

He was about to say something when a doctor closely followed by three nurses trekked into the room.

“It’s good to finally have you back, President Giovanni.” He said.

“Thanks.” Roman said. “By the way, how did I even get here? Was I in an accident or something?”

The doctor and I exchanged perplexed glances.

“What is the last thing you can remember, sir?” The doctor asked.

Roman squeezed his eyes shut. “The day I broke up with my ex girlfriend, Lana. Everything after that is completely fuzzy.”

My lips trembled as my heart fell to the pit of my belly.

Lana? How could he remember her, and not me?

“Do you know who she is?” The doctor asked, gesturing to me.

Just as I expected, Roman shook his head in negation and he looked me up and down. “I’m sorry but I don’t. Am I supposed to know her? Who is she to me?”

“She’s your girl-”

I interrupted the doctor and said. “I’m someone dear to you. Very dear to you.”

“Oh.” He mumbled.

“We are going to run some tests now, Miss Sofie.” He said, bringing out a penlight and flashing it into Roman’s eyes.

“Everything seems fine.” He said. “Can you ball your hand into a fist?”

Roman obliged, and the doctor wrote something down in his note pad before steering his focus to me.

“Kindly meet me in my office, Miss Diaz. I have something important to tell you.” He supplied.

“Okay. I will.” I muttered.

Awkward silence enveloped the atmosphere of the room, as the nurses kept stealing glances at me while they drew up blood from Roman, and gave him more medication.

I was tempted to snap at them to do their work properly instead of gawking at me, but I repressed my anger.

“I will be in the doctor’s office. He said he has important information for me.” I explained to Roman as if he hadn’t heard the doctor talk to me.

“Uhm, okay.” He nodded, and withdrew his attention from me.

I inhaled deeply to keep the tears suppressed as I walked morosely to the doctor’s office.

“Have a seat, Miss Diaz.” The doctor said, as I entered his office.

I nodded, and silently sat down on the chair facing him.

“Please don’t sugarcoat anything for me. Don’t give me false hope. Just tell me everything as it is.” I said, to which the doctor nodded.

“It is against my professional and personal ethics to sugarcoat a patient’s diagnosis for them.” He replied.

“So what do you have to tell me?”

“President Giovanni has selective amnesia.” He started.

I exhaled heavily as I clutched my thighs harshly.

Hearing it made it real.

Tears clouded my vision as I tried to gather reasonable words in my mind.

At that moment, I badly wanted to run away.

I wanted to hurl all the curses I knew at the universe.

I wanted to ask why it was so cruel to me.

I wanted to ask if I didn’t deserve to be happy for at least once in my life.

“So that’s why he can’t remember me.” I whispered, and the doctor nodded.

“Exactly. And it’s not just you he can’t remember. You also heard him, his mind seems to be stuck in the past. His brain is trying to filter everyone and everything related to the traumatic experience he recently underwent.” He said, and I huffed.

“But Lana is also part of that traumatic experience. She literally shot him in the chest and bludgeoned his head. How can he remember her?”

“I have no idea either, Miss. In my twenty one years of experience, I have never seen something like this.” The doctor said.

I sighed deeply and nodded. “It’s alright. Thanks for everything, doctor.”

“There’s no need to thank me for doing my job, Miss. ” He responded, as we shook hands.

Afterward, I exited his office and trekked into Roman’s room with various despondent thoughts, clawing at my mind.

The sight that greeted me when I walked in fizzled out my despair and instantly replaced it with rage.

Roman was asleep, and Lana was standing at the foot of his bed, in flesh and blood.

She didn’t even bother to use a disguise.

“What the fuck are you doing here, Lana? Are you here to finish your job?” I hollered, pushing her to the floor.

She laughed manically as she got up and dusted her skimpy gown. “I don’t owe you an explanation. Now get out of my face.”

“The fucking audacity you have to be here when there’s a search party for you. Don’t worry, you’ll be caught and sent to jail today. I don’t need to argue with a criminal.” I spat at her in anger.

In response, she folded in half as she burst into a peal of laughter. “You are really stupid, Sofie. The police can’t do anything to me, why? Because there’s no proof I was ever there. The gun I used has been destroyed, and the same goes for my phones.”

I froze speechless as I pondered on her word.

She moved closer to me, and I stood my ground as I glared at her.

“And now, Roman has lost his memory of you and the incident. Even the universe is not working in your favor, you are all alone now. It will be easy for me to get rid of both you and your bastard.” She giggled.

“I overheard the nurses gossiping among themselves on my way in. This is the best news I’ve heard in a long time. Today is the best day of my life.” She squealed and clapped her hands in excitement.

Hot tears streamed down my face as I fell to the floor in dejection.

Lana had won.
