The Apple of My Eye

Chapter 2139 If I Knew It Earlier

Chapter 2139 If I Knew It Earlier

The guard rushed out with Clark in his arms. It was raining heavily outside. To prevent Clark from

getting wet in the rain, he held an umbrella for him. However, when he was halfway out, the rain came

to an abrupt stop.

Looking ahead, he caught a glimpse of a man slowly walking towards him.

The sudden presence of this man left the guard stunned. He shuddered with fear. But on closer

inspection, he found that it was Rob. He rushed to him, asking for help.

"Boss! Boss, help!" The guard shouted as he ran to Rob. He seemed to have forgotten that they

couldn't let people find out that they had kidnapped Clark.

Rob walked to his subordinate, frustrated because he spoke so loudly.

"What the hell!" Rob snapped.

The guard immediately lowered his voice and replied, "Boss, this kid passed out."

On hearing this, Rob was also startled. His eyes immediately fell on Clark, who was in the guard's

arms. He narrowed his eyes and raised his hand to touch Clark's forehead.

"He's got a fever." Rob's heart tightened.

"Then what should we do? I have been taking good care of him. I have no idea as to what caused him

this fever." The guard was afraid of being blamed, so he quickly explained to Rob.

Rob didn't blame him. He murmured, "What should we do?"

They were in the wilds with a child. And considering the situation, there was no way they could take

Clark to the hospital.

The second they showed up at a hospital, they would be caught.

Realizing this, his anxiety increased. The only reason he kidnapped Clark was to force Charles out.

Rob had been worried that Charles was pretending to be in a coma, so kidnapping his child seemed

like the best way to test it.

Moreover, another important reason was that he needed to keep this child in order to get Ferry out of

prison. It was a trade-off. Although his chance of victory was slim, he would never know whether it

would work or not until he actually tried.

"Come with me, Abraham!" Noticing Clark's face was turning redder and redder, Rob made a quick

decision.

"Okay." Abraham followed Rob, still holding Clark in his arms.

After a few steps, they noticed a few people walking towards them.

"Boss!" Alva shouted at them while he gripped Vicky's arm tightly.

Seeing that it was Alva and Vicky, Rob didn't look too surprised. He nodded his head and said, "Take

her over there. And be careful. You shouldn't leave any evidence behind."

Hearing Rob's words, Vicky knew that she was on the verge of death. Although she was anxious, she

was not in a hurry. She didn't know why, but there was a part of her that believed Sheryl could save her

in time.

All of a sudden, she saw the kid in Abraham's arms. Knowing that the boy was Sheryl's lost son, she

got very excited. Her efforts didn't go in vain.

She must prolong this until Sheryl came to help her.

Thinking of this, Vicky abruptly said, "Wait a minute." All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.

"What?" Rob replied impatiently. He was anxious to take Clark to see a doctor.

"Rob, why did you ask them to bring me here?" she asked deliberately.

With a sinister smile on his face, Rob said, "Because I want to shut you up forever."

"What do you mean? I did so much for you. After everything, how could you kill me for such a selfish

purpose? Do you even have a conscience?" Vicky began to reprimand him.

But Rob's patience had run out. "Take her away," he ordered.

"Wait!" Vicky took a quick glance at Clark, who was lying still in Abraham's arms. On closer inspection,

she noticed he was red. Even though he was asleep, he seemed to have a hard time breathing.

Obviously, he was sick.

She noticed that Clark's clothes were wet, so she wondered whether Clark had caught a cold and had

a fever because of the rain.

Thinking of this, Vicky added, "This kid is sick. He has a fever. If you want him to live, then we need to

bring down the fever as soon as possible."

"You know how to do that?" Rob asked, an expression of hope entering his face.

Vicky nodded her head immediately. "Rob, if I save the kid, will you let me go?"

"You wish!" Rob snorted.

In his eyes, Vicky was worthless now. To make things worse, there was something extremely annoying

about her. It would be a piece of cake for him to destroy this woman, and he wished to make use of his

power.

"Rob, I can tell this kid is very important to you. I don't know who he is, but I can undoubtedly save him.

However, if he doesn't get the treatment he needs as soon as possible, I'm afraid that no doctor can

save him. He will be gone forever," Vicky added hurriedly, wishing her words would be taken seriously.

Rob was hesitant, but she could tell he was considering her offer.

This seemed like a good plan, considering he couldn't openly take Clark to see a doctor. He

contemplated the matter for a while. Vicky might indeed be capable of solving his problem. And under

this dire situation, it seemed like the best option.

"Well, let's see what you've got," Rob said in a challenging tone.

Vicky let out a sigh of relief. She was not worried about her life any longer. Her concern at the moment

was for the kid in front of her. After all, he had a high fever. If he didn't die, some other complications

were possible too.

"Take him to the house over there." Vicky looked around and found that there was only an old house in

front of them.

Rob nodded at Abraham.

Abraham hurried back to the house with Clark in his arms.

Vicky asked Abraham to put Clark on the small bed on which the straw was piled. Then she tore off

pieces of her clothes and soaked them with some cold water. Gently, she placed it on Clark's forehead.

Then she turned to Rob and asked, "Can one of you bring some antipyretics? What I am doing right

now is an alternative to medicine. But if the fever gets too high, we will have no choice but to give

medicine."

Rob nodded at Alva and ordered, "Alva, go ahead."

Alva glared at Vicky. Earlier, his sole duty was to kill the woman in front of him. But this turn of events

had put him in a completely different situation. He never expected things would come down to this. And

now, he was supposed to buy medicine for this kid on her order!

But since Rob had ordered, he had no choice but to follow it obediently. He got out of the room as soon

as possible.

From the corner of her eye, Vicky saw that Rob and Abraham were glaring at her with covetous eyes.

She wasn't sure whether she could wait for Sheryl and Isla to come. And even if they made it, she

wondered whether they could beat down the two men in front of her. As of now, she had only managed

to send one person away. It was not enough.

Vicky didn't know what else to do, so she began to change the wet rags on Clark's forehead.

A few minutes later, Clark's face became less red. Vicky touched his forehead and found it was not so

hot anymore.

But she was still worried, so she continued to use the wet cloth to wipe his body and forehead.

On the other side, Rob had been watching her. Noticing that Vicky no longer looked nervous, he asked

in a hurry, "How's the boy? Is he getting better?"

Vicky pretended to be worried about him and said, "Rob, the fever has been brought down a little, but

I'm afraid that there might be a sequela. We'd better take him to the hospital."

"How could there be sequela?" Rob frowned in confusion.

"Generally speaking, after having a high fever, a child's chest and lungs will be weakened because of

the fever. And the worst part is we can't know anything for sure unless and until we consult a doctor,"

explained Vicky, trying her hardest to convince Rob.

"I don't care. I only want to child to stay alive. If he has sequela, it is none of my business," said Rob

and let out a laugh.

Hearing what Rob said, Vicky was startled. It was all her fault. It was extremely stupid of her to forget

that Clark was not his family. Whether the boy was in good health or not wouldn't really matter to him.

In frustration, Vicky added, "If the sequela lasts for a long time, it has the ability to kill people. It

depends on the condition of his physical recovery. This kid is so skinny. I don't think he has a strong

immune system. I'm afraid he won't be able to get through this."

"What crap is this! I didn't think this would become such a mess. I should have kidnapped his mother

instead!" Rob spat out angrily.
