Chapter 1738 The Bottom Price
Chapter 1738 The Bottom Price
David thought Leila was just a secretary in the Secretary Department of Shining Company. He didn't
think she had any special relations with the president, so he never gave her any preferential treatment.
"David, aren't you aware of my relationship with the president? I'm not really the one who's asking,
though. It's Aunt Melissa. Are you going to refuse to answer a question that came from the mother of
the president?" Leila confidently said as she eyed David. She was sure that David would have no
choice but to answer. All she needed was to drop Melissa's name.
David kept calm and put on a faint smile before turning to look at Leila again.
Then he eyed Leila from head to toe.
Leila felt uncomfortable underneath his gaze. She coughed and said, "David, why are you looking at
me like that?"
"Ms. Zhang, I hope you understand that while Melissa is a director of the company, she's not in charge
of the company or any of the work being done under it. I'm not obligated to her at all. If there's nothing
else, I'll get going now."
David didn't care who Leila worked for. He didn't care if it was Melissa she was working for. He didn't
like Leila anyway. Even if Charles asked him to even just smile at Leila, he wouldn't be able to do it.
Leila was furious as she watched David walk away.
The other secretaries in the Secretary Department saw the whole thing and just merely exchanged
glances. Leila had several guesses as to what they were thinking. Either way, she knew that David had
humiliated her on purpose.
From then on, Leila decided that as soon as she married Charles, the first thing she'd do would be to
fire David.
"What are you doing? Don't you need to work?"
Leila snapped when she saw the other secretaries pointing at her and gossiping about her. She was
furious.
Everyone got annoyed, but they chose to remain silent. They all went back to their work, ignoring Leila.
Leila didn't get anything from David, so she decided to go to Charles' office.
"Tap-tap..." She knocked on the door.
"Come in."
Charles was leaning back in the chair, but upon hearing the knock, he straightened his back and looked
toward the door.
Leila gently pushed the door open and walked inside with a cup of coffee in her hand. She put down
the coffee and smiled. "Charles, have some coffee."
"Leave it on the table." Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.
Charles was in a bad mood, and he made no effort in hiding it.
This didn't go unnoticed by Leila, so she bit her tongue and held back what she was going to say. She
figured David must have told Charles something. If she said something wrong, she'd get in trouble. She
wasn't stupid, so she wouldn't do anything to harm herself.
"Anything else?" Charles frowned when Leila just remained standing in front of him.
"Nothing. I'm going out. If you need something, please, call me." Leila smiled awkwardly as she walked
out of Charles' office.
All employees of Shining Company worked cautiously that day when they noticed that Charles was in a
bad mood. They were afraid they might offend Charles, so they tried their best to stay out of his way.
Leila privately asked about Magic Technology Company, so she'd found out the truth. She bit her lip
and wondered if it had anything to do with Holley.
As she thought this over, she decided to call Holley.
Holley was already struggling to deal with her own affairs. She frowned when she saw that Leila was
calling her, but she still answered it.
"Holley, are you the one behind the issue with Magic Technology Company?" Before speaking, Leila
looked around to make sure nobody was listening.
"What's wrong with Magic Technology Company?" Holley was confused, and she didn't know what
Leila was talking about.
"It wasn't you?" Leila mumbled.
"What the hell happened?"
Holley heard the doubt in Leila's voice. Now she was anxious to know what had happened.
"Nothing. I know what the Star Company's bottom price is. When are you going to pay me the rest of
the money?" Leila just thought to ask about Magic Technology Company, but mainly, she was calling
Holley to ask for the money.
Leila realized that with Charles' mood swings, she needed money so she could protect herself. That
way, even if she couldn't marry Charles, she'd have money, and she'd be set. Of course, that was just a
back-up plan. What she really wanted was to marry Charles and live with him happily ever after.
"I see. Just wait for the payment." Holley said after hesitating for a while. Then she hung up the phone
without waiting for Leila to respond.
Leila could tell something was wrong with Holley's tone, but she let it go. After all, she knew how much
Holley had to deal with. She felt better about herself at the thought of this. She figured Holley was crazy
for money and would prefer to lose her life than pay.
Holley was distressed. She already knew what the bottom price was, and she needed to help Ferry go
up against Charles as she was left with no other choice. Upon thinking of Ferry, she recalled Jason.
She didn't know what to do anymore. She screamed out of frustration.
In Cloud Advertising Company
Sheryl had just finished some work when she received Isla's call.
When she looked at her phone, she couldn't help but smile. Since Isla had left for her trip, she called
Sheryl every day to ask how she was. Sheryl even thought that maybe Isla was just showing off
because she was traveling and enjoying herself.
Sheryl wasn't annoyed at all. Instead, she felt very happy for Isla.
"My dear, Ms. Zhao, did you have a good time today?" Sheryl smiled as she asked. She teased Isla by
speaking formally.
"Yes. How about you? How are the kids?"
Isla was visiting a famous tourist spot with Aron, and couldn't get her mind off Sheryl. After all, she'd left
Sheryl all alone to manage the company since she was away on a trip. She couldn't help but feel guilty,
so she called Sheryl.
"Don't worry. Everything's going well. When will you come back?"
Sheryl admired Isla. She only wished she could relax and travel with Charles the same way too.
As soon as this idea came to her head, she shook it off right away. She knew that this would never
happen, and it was all just wishful thinking.
When Sheryl had finished talking to Isla, she contacted her lawyer. She made it clear that she needed
to settle the divorce as soon as possible because she insisted that they all needed to move on from this
sooner or later.
"Ms. Xia, I've already sent the letter to Mr. Lu. You'll have your first meeting with him, in court, in three
days..."
