Chapter 83

Joanna sounded more hurt the more she cried, and her sobs began building in volume.

Winston immediately softened and began to caress her hair. Gently, he said, “Don’t cry. It’s not that

serious.”

Millie looked at him in shock.

Giving Selma a fake Snowdrop during her birthday party in front of so many socialites and VIPs from their circle was absolutely a serious issue.

She looked at Joanna and suddenly understood the saying. “The squeaky wheel gets the grease“.

Perhaps it was easy to be bold when one knew they were loved unconditionally.

“Bye,” Millie said. She didn’t have the energy to keep watching them.

“Millie!” Winston called out, instinctively starting to walk after her.

Joanna tightened her grip and whined, “Win, everyone at the party suspected me of doing it on purpose. I’m so embarrassed!”

Millie didn’t even look back and walked away briskly and confidently.

Winston frowned. Since Joanna had stopped him, he was forced to let Millie walk away. Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.

“What happened during the party?” Winston asked as he brought Joanna into the mansion.

Joanna choked back a sob and suddenly asked, “Win, did you change the password for the front door?

She had keyed in the password over and over again, but it kept saying it was incorrect. If she tried any more times, the password system would let out a warning, so she stopped.

“Yeah, I changed it,” Winston said calmly.

Joanna frowned. “Why?”

Winston hummed before replying mildly, “I used this one for a really long time. I can’t suddenly change my habits and always used to key the new one in wrongly, so I changed it back to the old one.”

Joanna bit her lip. She didn’t know what the original password had been. Since she didn’t know the password, she could no longer walk in and out of the mansion freely.

If she couldn’t do that, didn’t that mean she was still being left out of the mansion?

When could she become part of Winston’s actual family?

When Millie arrived home, both Arthur and Layla were waiting for her on the sofa.

Millie was carrying her heels in one hand and had been planning to sneak her way upstairs, but both of them still caught her.

“Grandpa, Grandma, don’t you guys have anything else to do?” Millie greeted them quietly.

“We’ve been waiting for you to come back!” Layla said seriously.

Millie cleared her throat and stood in front of them obediently.

Arthur asked, “Why didn’t you come back last night? Where did you go? Did you go looking for Winston again? Are you relighting an old flame?”

Millie didn’t know what to reply. Was Arthur playing 20 questions with her?

She pouted and put her heels down before sitting next to Arthur and saying pitifully, “Grandpa, I got injured and had to go to the hospital. Winston doesn’t like me anyway, and there isn’t any old flame to relight.”

Arthur immediately asked, “Where did you get hurt?”

Layla, on the other hand, put on a strict expression and said, “Millie, us Caldwells need to stay strong! A good horse never looks back. If you dare to even look back in Winston’s direction, I’ll be the first to look down on you!”

Millie watched her grandmother waving her finger around in front of her face.

Winston had been rather good to her recently, and she did feel rather sad to see her go. However, she understood that his kindness was all part of an act.

She might have used to think of his kindness as a sign that he was slowly accepting her. It was a way for her to console herself.

However, she no longer thought that way.

Layla stood up seriously and glared at Millie. “I already talked to the hospital. Go back there right now and focus on your studies!”

“Grandma, 1- Millie wanted to object. She wanted to have more fun first.

Layla chuckled. She looked at Millie a little bit evilly. “Either you bring me your divorce papers, or you go back to work at the hospital. It’s up to you.”
