Chapter 71

Gloría stepped forward and shielded Millie behind her. She scolded, “Winston, what’s wrong with you? You don’t even know what exactly happened, but you’re already shouting at Millie!”

“It doesn’t matter what happened. It’s Millie’s fault for making Joanna kneel down to her in public!” Winston snarled in a low voice.

Millie looked at Winston’s eyes and saw an unprecedented disgust in them. He hated her now more than ever!

Millie lowered her head. She felt indescribable bitterness in her heart, but ultimately, she felt pain. Winston had never believed in or protected her with such determination, but he firmly insulted and

scolded her for the sake of Joanna!

“Win…” Joanna’s eyes reddened. With Winston backing her, tears started streaming down her face. She felt extremely aggrieved.

She had been going against so many people alone. Winston had finally come to protect her and speak up for her. Content © NôvelDrama.Org.

“It’s okay, Jo,” Winston comforted her gently.

He had advised Joanna not to attend Selma’s birthday banquet, but Joanna insisted as she wanted to make Selma happy. He had told her that his family would not treat her well, but Joanna didn’t care. Joanna was willing to do anything as long as it could change the Greer family’s perception of her.

Joanna was the heiress of one of the Four Great Families in Yerwick. She was the darling of the Lowell family, but in order to marry him, she had suffered too much. Now that Winston saw Joanna kneeling down in front of Millie, how could he bear it?

“Winston, you’re really blind!” Gloria pointed at Winston furiously. “Let go of her immediately. You. should feel embarrassed, because I am!”

So many people were watching. Winston was holding Joanna while insulting his own wife. What was he thinking?

If news of this spread out, people wouldn’t stop gossiping about them. Why did she give birth to such a scoundrel?

Winston looked around. Everyone was indeed gossiping among themselves.

Thinking of Selma’s poor health, Winston let go of Joanna and composed himself. “Millie, come with

Then, he headed to an empty area.

Millie didn’t want to talk to him. She lowered her eyes and said coldly, “There’s nothing for us to talk about, Mr. Greer. You can go about your business. I’m leaving now.”

She had greeted Selma and presented Selma with her gift. It was time for her to leave.

Seeing that Millie wasn’t going to follow him, he walked over and grabbed her hand domineeringly

before leading her away.

Millie was annoyed. Her calm demeanor shifted slightly. “Let go of me, Winston!*

Winston ignored her struggles and brought her straight to the washroom. The corridor leading to the washroom was empty and silent.

Millie flung Winston’s hand away and turned to leave, but he blocked her way.

Winston was about six feet one inches tall. He towered over Millie as he stood in front of her.

Millie was in a ballgown, so she couldn’t make any big movements.

The lights in the corridor were dim. Winston yanked his tie loose in annoyance, took one step forward, and pressed Millie against the wall.

She looked up and met his dark gaze.

There was even a faint scent of Joanna’s perfume lingering on him because he had hugged her just now. The smell was unpleasant.

He lowered his gaze and looked at Millie. He had regained his rationality as he asked, “Millie, will you only be satisfied when things come to this point?”

Millie looked at him, thinking he looked like an idiot.

“You ruined Grandma’s birthday and asked Joanna to kneel down to you in public. What’s your

intention?” Winston questioned through gritted teeth. He was visibly angry.

Millie just chuckled. She couldn’t be bothered to explain, so she simply said, “I want her dead.” She hoped he was happy with this answer.

Joanna closed her eyes, walked up to Millie, and knelt down.

At this moment, a roar came from outside. “Millie, what are you doing?”

Everyone looked at the entrance and saw Winston, who was dressed in a black suit, striding in.

He took off his suit jacket and reached Joanna in no time. He knelt down on one knee and draped his suit jacket over her shoulder, then looked at Millie in anger.

Winston shouted, “Millie, this is Grandma’s birthday banquet. How could you ask Joanna to kneel down to you?”

Millie paused for a moment, stunned by Winston’s outburst.

Winston held Joanna and helped her stand up.

Joanna cried tearfully at once. She hugged Winston and wailed, “Win…”

Winston patted her back gently while glaring at Millie.

In an icy tone, he admonished, “Millie, don’t you know that dignity is important to someone, especially at an occasion like this? You’re already in your 20s. Don’t you know better?”

His voice grew colder with each sentence.

Millie opened her mouth, wanting to retort, but she stayed silent in the end. Her explanations had always been futile. She didn’t want to waste her breath.

Millie just smiled and lowered her eyes. She didn’t have anything to say to him. Was she the one who didn’t know better, or was it Winston?

Despite being smart with his methods and intelligent at work, why couldn’t he see clearly when it came to the matters of the heart? Was it only because he didn’t love her that he could trample on her just like that?
