That was a question that Winston himself had no answer to.
Millie pressed on. “Are you not going to get a divorce?”
He sank into silence while her expression grew serious
Their breathing sounded loud in the silence of the room. She watched as his breathing grew uneven. Finally, he frantically shoved her away.
“You’re delusional,” he snapped.
No way he’d fall in love with her.
Millie fell into a daze when she heard his icy remark. She repeated his words to herself, “You’re delusional.
Winston bad labeled her as delusional multiple times.
Standing up, he tugged at his collar and gulped nervously. Dodging her gaze, he chose to stare out of the window instead.
She studied his figure for a while. Finally, she broke into a smile. “I was just joking, but you seemed rattled by it.”
“Don’t ever make those jokes again. They’re not funny at all,” Winston warned her with a frown when he
turned.
Millie teased him, pouting, “Mr. Greer, you’re fierce.” Her tone carried a hint of coyness.
He couldn’t help but steal another look at her. He discovered a relaxed and coquettish smirk on her face.
She happened to look at him, and their eyes met. Her lashes fluttered.
Winston replied arrogantly, “You need to behave yourself if you don’t want me yelling at you.” NôvelDrama.Org content rights.
Cupping her face with her hands, she beamed at him. 10h, do you prefer girls who listen well?”
“I prefer anyone but you,” he replied, his jaw clenching,
She pouted. “Alright. Alright. I know you prefer girls like Joanna!”
He turned to argue with her, but under her stare, he fell silent as though agreeing with her statement.
Chuckling. Millie dug into the food. Gloria had made some tasty barbecue ribs, but they were tasteless to
her.
After a brief pause, Winston suddenly commented, “It‘ rain tonight.”
She didn’t reply.
He glanced at her and asked, “Are you scared?”
No,” she lied.
He paused as he searched for words, but his phone started to ring. The caller ID “Jo” flashed across the
screen.
Frowning, he notified Millle, “I need to leave now.”
She casually glanced at his phone and nodded calmly. Of course.”
He’d only leave in an instant if Joanna were the one who summoned him.
After he left, she lost her appetite. Checking the weather on her phone, she realized there would be sporadic thunderstorms at night.
So, she cleaned up the food and changed into a new outfit before heading to the Cardiac Surgery Department.
Hazel happened to be on the night shift, and Millie was overjoyed to see her.
“Hazel, I’ll keep you company on your shift!” Millie purred.
Hazel looked pleasantly surprised at her presence. “Why aren’t you resting in your bed?”
“I overslept in the morning!” Millie immediately played dead after that. Hazel laughed and shook her head
Millie’s antics, letting her be.
As predicted, the thunderstorms raged at night. Hazel nearly dozed off at the nurses‘ station, but a clap of thunder jolted her awake.
Suddenly, she felt a pressure beside her. It turned out that Millie had curled up against her.
Hazel draped a blanket on Millie, who suddenly woke up looking shocked and grabbing Hazel by the arm
“Dr. Caldwell you okay? Did you have nightmares?” Hazel asked, concerned.
Millie’s lips parted. Her forehead was dotted with sweat. She shook her head and checked the time. It was 1:30 am.
Hazel wanted Millie to get some rest in the lounge. “Why don’t you get some sleep in the lounge?”
Millie shook her head. “It’s fine. I’ll keep you company here.”
Smiling, Hazel suddenly asked, “Dr. Caldwell, are you hungry?
In the blink of an eye, she reemerged with a bunch of snacks in her arms. Then, she played some shows on her phone for Millie. “Just relax.”
Millie stroked Hazel’s head. “Hazel, you’re the best.”
Hazel beamed. “I am, indeed.”
When they were absorbed in watching shows to pass the time, the elevator arrived with a chiming sound. Urgent footsteps echoed in the corridor as someone hurried to the nurses‘ station.
