“Cara, I promised to take care of you, and I’ll make sure you receive the best treatment,” Millie declared firmly.
She turned toward Lainey and said, “Dr, Quinn, Cara needs medical attention.”
“Thank you, Dr. Caldwell. It doesn’t matter, even if I die,” Cara replied gently.
Millie felt a wave of sympathy toward her. Every woman dreamed of being beautiful and elegant.
However, life led her to become an ordinary woman from the countryside.
Kane was arrested by the police, yet Millie couldn’t shake her concern about the situation.
She had criticized Cara for being cowardly and despised people like her. However, when Kane was about to stab her, surprisingly, Cara stepped in to protect her.
Millie was worried as she watched the doctor take Cara away.
“Are you alright, Millie?” Lainey asked.
Millie looked up, feeling lost. Lainey frowned and helped her to her feet. “It’s over now. Don’t worry. The police have arrested that madman. Take some rest.”
Millie’s legs went weak as she took a step. She took a deep breath to regain her composure before responding. “I’m alright.”
Soon, word of the incident at the hospital spread throughout Yerwick. Upon hearing that Millie had been attacked, the Caldwells rushed to the hospital.
Terrence asked urgently, “What happened? Who did it?” Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.
Layla was furious. She shouted, “Get Sebastian here!”
Millie stopped Layla helplessly. “Grandma, it’s just a minor issue. It has nothing to do with Dr. Lloyd.”
“I stepped in to help a patient, and the patient’s family was targeting me. Please stop making a scene,” Millie said, shushing them. It had nothing to do with the hospital.
Layla pointed at Millie; her eyes were accusatory. “If anything happens to you in the hospital, I’ll be the one to blame!”
“Exactly! I suggested she work at my company and be the boss. But you insisted on her becoming a doctor. She should’ve just stayed at home with me,” Arthur muttered as he gently rubbed Millie’s palms.
Layla glared at him and snapped, “Is she supposed to just sit around at home with you? How old are you?
And how old is Millie?”
Arthur fell silent after being reprimanded.
At that moment, Lainey entered the room. Millie immediately asked, “How’s Cara?”
“She’s unconscious and undergoing medical treatment Lainey responded honestly,
“Is it critical?” Millie asked with concern.
“There’s no damage to any vital organs, so she should be fine. Rest well,” Lainey reassured Millie.

Millie nodded, then lowered her head, feeling an indescribable heaviness in her heart. The news of her situation was spreading rapidly online.
As she lay on the hospital bed, she couldn’t help but be drawn in by the overwhelming coverage and read the comments.
“Millie is an amazing and beautiful doctor!”
“I saw this lunatic at the outpatient clinic before. He was very violent toward his wife. He should be punished for his actions.”
“I’m worried that, because it’s a family matter, he’ll be released after just a few days of being detained.”
“Please protect Dr. Caldwell. Please ensure her safety!”
Millie was moved, and she felt that everyone was truly righteous, and it reinforced her belief that her actions were justified. Otherwise, she might have questioned whether she was intervening in other people’s affairs.
Millie urged Terrence to leave. “I’m fine. Don’t stay here. Take Grandpa and Grandma home. You’ve got things to do too.”
“Are you sure you’re fine?” asked Terrence.
Millie nodded. “I’m perfectly fine. After all, I’m in the hospital. What could possibly go wrong?”
Eventually, Terrence became concerned about Arthur and Layla, so he decided to take them home.
The ward fell silent as Millie lowered her head and rubbed her aching shoulders. The wounds on her shoulder and neck throbbed with pain.
With a deep breath, the memories of being thrown into the sea flashed through her mind. She had fought desperately, but the light had remained out of reach.
Suddenly, there was a knock on her door.
