Rachel instantly knew the answer when Millle stayed silent. “Are you hesitant to end it with him?”
Millie poured herself a glass of water and sighed. “It’s not me, it’s my ID.”
Rachel was confused. “Your ID?”
“My ID card went missing when I needed it the most. I had no choice but to wait for a new one before I can finalize the divorce,” Millie explained, taking a sip of water. She then walked over to the window and gazed outside, her eyes weary.
Rachel sighed. “Your marriage started off rocky, but why is your divorce just as difficult?”
Millie laughed. Her divorce was indeed troublesome. If she hadn’t planned to divorce that day, she wouldn’t have realized her ID card was missing.
“Mills, I’m going to a gala in a few days. Want to come?
“What kind of gala?” she asked.
“It’s a gathering of the entertainment industry. Big directors, celebrities, well–known investors and entertainment company owners will be there. Even your uncle, Thomas,” Rachel replied casually.
“I’ll let you know. I’ve been shadowing Dr. Quinn in the operating room, so my schedule is pretty packed right now.” Millie sighed.
“Come on. I’m sure you can make it. Let me introduce you to the vibrant entertainment industry! Anyway, I have to get back to work. Bye,” Rachel said before abruptly ending the call.
She had always been like that, always in a rush. She started conversations quickly and ended them just as fast. Millie had grown accustomed to her rapid pace.
“Where’s Dr. Caldwell? Come out, Dr. Caldwell! How dare she involve herself in my family matters! That bitch treated my wife without my permission. Did I give my consent? Did she ask for my approval? Tell her to come and face me!” A man was cursing loudly near the nurses‘ station.
Millie turned with her phone in her hand and saw Hazel hurrying toward her. She pulled Millie aside and said, “Dr. Caldwell, Dr. Quinn asked you to hide.”
“What happened?” Millie asked, confused as Hazel pushed her away.
“Cara’s husband is here! He’s here to cause trouble for you!” Hazel exclaimed–anxiously.
Millie paused and asked, “How will you handle the situation if I leave?”
Kane’s behavior was unpredictable and could potentially harm others.
“Don’t worry. Dr. Quinn asked us to protect you,” Hazel replied seriously.
Millie shook her head. “I don’t need protection. This was my decision, and I’ll face the consequences on my own.”
She walked to the nurses‘ station while calling the police. Her tone was harsh and determined. “I’m calling from Bifrost Hospital. We have a situation in the Cardiac Surgery Department involving a disruptive patient’s family member. Urgent assistance from the police is needed.”

Hazel was shocked by Millie’s determination. She reminded her, “Dr. Caldwell, be careful. He’s a lunatic.”
Millie nodded, “Got it.”
The nurses‘ station was crowded. Just as Millie tried to make her way through, she heard a man curse. I’m only looking for Dr. Caldwell. Get her out here!”
“She helped treat your wife’s illness. You should be grateful. What’s the matter with you?” someone criticized him.
Kane glared at the person and retorted, “I didn’t ask her to treat my wife or for her help. Even if she’s cured, what about the future? She still can’t have children and can only stay at home to recover.”
He waved a dagger around. “Is she going to cover future medical expenses? Cara’s life is worthless, so why not just let her die? She doesn’t deserve to be saved. Why not save those who truly deserve it?”
Finally, Millie managed to get through after he finished speaking. Lainey frowned upon seeing her, as she had asked Millie not to show up.
Kane frowned and carefully scrutinized Millie, as if judging her.
