Chapter 152

After Winston left, Millie and the mysterious man left the suite. The man’s deep voice echoed, “I would like steak for dinner.”

She nodded. “Fine. I can treat you to anything you like.”

The man pressed on, “Have you given the matter some consideration?”

She flashed him an awkward smile, as she totally didn’t.

Rolling his eyes, the man tapped her on the forehead.

Just as Winston arrived at Joanna’s ward, he received a text from Jake. “Winston, guess who I saw on the road? Your ex–wife!”

Another text soon came. “Ho ho! Her car really stands out. I could spot it from a mile away! But why was there a guy in her car? I caught a glimpse, and god, was he hot!”

Winston frowned at the texts, which wouldn’t stop coming in. Têxt © NôvelDrama.Org.

Jake rambled on, “They seemed quite flirty. I even saw him feeding your ex–wife some cherries. Looks like she has options!”

Winston might appear emotionless, but he slowly clenched his fist. He was ready to block Jake’s number if he refused to stop.

Jake wrote, “She seems quite happy after leaving you. I would have pursued her if she wasn’t your ex–wife. No man would pass on a beauty.”

Winston finally replied, “You’re pushing your luck.”

Jake wrote back, “Hehe!”

Winston warned him, “You’d better stop mentioning her around me.

Jake’s incessant mention of Millie only added to Winston’s frustration. He switched off his phone. When he looked up again, he found Joanna staring silently at him.

He found it quite perplexing that Joanna didn’t recover much in the hospital. Instead, her condition declined by the day.

Confused, he asked, “Are you still unwell?

Joanna had the best doctors at her service, and Logan brought her a variety of foods

daily to cheer her up, but all of that didn’t help.

“Win,” she uttered his name in an airy voice as she lowered her gaze.

She confessed, “I’m unhappy. Nothing in life excites me. I don’t want to eat or talk, and I struggle to fall asleep at night. Do you think I might be… sick?”

She looked at him, her eyes loaded with emotions..

Winston frowned. He had a weird feeling about everything. Stroking her hair, he knew that he couldn’t give her what she wanted, at least not at the moment.

“Win, can you please tell me that you love me…” She fixed her misty eyes on him with a pleading look. She craved for him to tell her that he loved her, hoping that the sweet words would offer reassurance.

He moved his lips, but he couldn’t bring himself to make the declaration. Perhaps he didn’t wish to speak against his conscience.

“Win, it hurts here…” Joanna placed a finger on the scar on the back of her hand, sending him a reminder about the fact that she had saved his life. Therefore, he must love her.

Winston examined her scar with complicated emotions. His hesitation was akin to confessing that he didn’t love her.

“Win, is it that hard to say ‘I love you“?” Tears rolled down her face. She seemed aggrieved.

He flashed her a quiet smile. Then, he gently comforted her, “Just focus on your recovery. Clear your head.”

Once again, Joanna was disappointed by his answer. She refused to speak and turned her face away. A short silence hung in the room, only to be disrupted by the text notification on Winston’s phone.

This time, Jake sent him a photo. He also wrote, “Yo, I happened to be dining at the same restaurant as your ex–wife. She’s holding hands with that man. How sweet!”

Winston grew even angrier after seeing the text. He promptly blocked Jake’s number, unaware of the subsequent message Jake had sent.
