Chapter 130

Millie rummaged through the refrigerator and was surprised to see it was filled with food. “Have you been staying here recently?” she asked Winston.

“Yeah.”

Millie wasn’t shocked. She believed Eli was the one who had prepared everything. But it seemed like he had forgotten that his boss didn’t know how to cook.

Millie added butter to a pot and sautéed the diced celery and carrots. Then, she poured some broth into the pot and seasoned it.

While waiting for it to boil, she shredded the chicken. Once the broth came to a boil, she added the pasta and waited for it to cook before adding the shredded chicken. Finally, she served the chicken noodle soup in a bowl.

As Millie reached out to take the bowl, she accidentally burned herself. She reflexively took a step back and pinched her ears.

Winston, on the other hand, observed her and couldn’t help but stifle a laugh. He approached her, took the bowl, and headed toward the dining table

Millie stared at him, her heart heavy with sorrow. She thought he was a considerate man. Unfortunately, his thoughtfulness was never for her.

With this in mind, she felt an intense envy toward Joanna. It was so overwhelming that she feared she might go mad.

She handed the cutlery to Winston. This was the first time they sat calmly at the dining table.

Millie found it unbelievable. The man she once loved the most was now eating the food she had prepared at a time when she was slowly falling out of love with him.

When she was most in love with him, she had yearned to cook him a meal. Yet, she had forgotten that he didn’t need a homemade meal.

Out there, the world was full of endless choices. So, was there anything Winston couldn’t get? Millie only came to understand this now, and she realized it too late.

“A hearty meal can calm your stomach,” she said with her head lowered. “Since you have gastritis, you should eat at regular times. No matter how busy you are at work, you still have to take care of yourself.

Millie had repeated this countless times. Whenever Winston claimed he was busy, she would remind him. However, he never listened. He even thought she nagged like a mother.

Indeed, this wasn’t how a relationship should be. The more Millie worried about Winston, the more he lost interest. Ironically, if she had kept things casual and thrown in some sweet nothings, he would have been thrilled.

But Millie couldn’t bring herself to fake it. Regardless, this was the last time she would say such things. She wouldn’t bring it up again.

“Okay,” Winston replied unexpectedly, and a hint of surprise flashed in Millie’s eyes.

Just as he was about to eat the chicken noodle soup, his phone rang. Millie followed his gaze and saw the caller ID–Jo..

He set down the cutlery and didn’t touch the food Instead, he answered the call.

“Is everything okay?” Winston looked up at Millle with a frown and then spoke into the phone, “Got it. I’ll be right there.”

With that, he stood up.

Millie, too, rose to her feet while fixing her gaze on Winston. His lips parted, seemingly wanting to say something. But in the end, he said, “Get some rest.”

“You’re not going to eat?” she asked instinctively.

Winston hummed and replied, “Next time.”

With that, he walked away without looking back. It was as if his stomach no longer hurt after learning that Joanna was in danger.

Millie stared at his retreating figure and chuckled wryly. Next time? There wouldn’t be a next time. She sat down. Looking at the chicken noodle soup she had prepared, she thought it would be a shame to waste it. Since Millie was still waiting for Marvin, she decided to eat it.

Once she had consumed the food, her stomach was bloated. Millie had eaten too much that night.

After doing the dishes, she switched off the lights before leaving. The villa fell back into silence as if no one had been there.

Millie got into Marvin’s car, exhaustion written all over her face.

Under the warm yellow light, she examined the love bites on her neck. A hint of anger flickered in her eyes as she cursed silently, “That jerk! Why did he act like a dog that bites?”

Right then, Marvin cleared his throat.

Millie glared at him and snapped, “If you have something to say, spit it out.” Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
