Chapter 7 A Sharp-Tongued Wife
Chapter 7 A Sharp-Tongued Wife
The press conference was set for two in the afternoon, in a meeting room at the Empire Group
Building.
Having been treated to a good meal by Matthew, Blanca stayed nice and obedient. A makeup artist did
a light bit of makeup on her, while a stylist fitted her with a tuxedo.
She stood before the mirror and looked at the elegant lady in the mirror, a little happy, but also a little
troubled, and most of all, she wasn’t used to it.
Was this still her?
Did she have to keep on with the acting from now on?
Thinking about that, she tugged uncomfortably at the tight straps of the dress.
Matthew went into the makeup studio, their gazes meeting in the mirror. Seeing the pale, tall girl there,
Matthew’s gaze deepened.
Blanca rubbed her neck, a little embarrassed. “Is it strange? I haven’t worn a lot of dresses.”
Matthew stared for a while, then said coolly, “It’ll do.”
She actually looked pretty, with defined features, and a slender but well-proportioned body.
The most lethal part was, when her calm eyes were still, they seemed to stamp all luxuries and worldly
affairs beneath her feet.
That sort of elegance that came with birth was nobler than Matthew had seen in any woman.
It was hard to imagine some girl with such a humble background carrying this sort of aura.
He recalled her jade pendant. If it really was hers, then her identity wasn’t that of a regular jane.
Considering that, Matthew frowned.
“I’m not used to wearing high heels. Can you help me up in a bit? This is too tall! And it’s hard on my
feet…” Blanca walked up in front of Matthew, feeling like she was on stilts as she complained.
He shot a look at her shoes and said mildly, “If you promise not to trip today, I’ll take you to that
restaurant tomorrow.”
Blanca’s pain seemed to disappear, and she slapped her chest. “No problem!”
Matthew and Blanca went hand in hand into the conference room, where the reporters were already
waiting with their cameras rolling.
Accompanied by flashes and the snap-snap-snaps of shutters, Blanca grew nervous, and Matthew took
her hand, showing her a rare, gentle smile.
Blanca’s heart thumped. This guy had a pretty tempting smile. No wonder so many women liked him.
She wasn’t as nervous now and murmured, “You look pretty kind when you smile. You should do that
more often.”
Matthew glared at her, still wearing the smile while murder rolled off his eyes.
Blanca didn’t have the nerve to tease him after that.
Afterwards, Matthew announced the marriage in brief and requested the major media outlets to retract
the photo of him together with his wife, or they would be sued for libel. Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
Blanca just needed to smile all throughout the process and nod. It was a bit boring, but it was also a
new experience being the center of attention. She felt like she’d become a movie star.
The press conference drew to the part where it was time for questions.
A female reporter turned to Blanca and asked, “If you were engaged with Mr. Grant at the time, Mrs.
Grant, why would you spend the night at a hotel instead?”
Matthew frowned and was about to answer for Blanca when she dipped her head shyly, looked at
Matthew, and blushed, “It’s pretty exciting going to new environments sometimes.”
Hearty laughter rang out across the conference room.
The shy but honest way this new wife of Matthew’s behaved was pretty charming.
Matthew smiled faintly. He was pleased with that answer too.
Then another reporter posed a difficult question. “Did you only get married for this scandal? Why were
there no traces of your good news otherwise?”
Matthew took that question.
“My girlfriend liked to keep things low-profile and I didn’t want people to pay too much attention to my
public life, so we’d kept it secret. Now that someone with some other intentions took the video and put
Blanca through all sorts of scandalous jibes, we thought to get married right away and go public with
the relationship. To tell the truth, even without this incident, Blanca and I would have gotten married this
year anyway.”
With that, he smiled gently at Blanca.
Cold sweat beaded on Blanca’s back. She knew full well that that “someone with some other
intentions” was herself. But she could still heave a sigh of relief that Matthew wasn’t asking after her
camera.
“Mrs. Grant, your elegance is impressive, what college did you graduate from, if I may ask?” A male
reporter’s voice rang out.
Blanca’s face turned pale, and she clenched her knuckles.
