“Great. I’ll let the chef know, Pamela said, leaving the room energetically. Dinner was not ready yet. Cynthia decided to wait in her own room for a while.

Cynthia had her own room at the Yates’s residence. It wasn’t the bridal room, but the room she had lived in since she was a child. She opened the door and found that it had changed.

The furnishings remained the same, but some things didn’t belong to her. Someone was staying in this room. At that moment, Bree Qadir, the maid, walked by, Cynthia held her back “Bree, who is staying in this room now?” she asked.

Knowing this used to be Cynthia’s room, Bree explained, “Ms. Sheppard insisted on staying in your room. Mrs. Yates refused her, but she kept using the unborn baby as leverage. Mr. Filip Yates let her move in.

“Mrs. Yates had a quarrel with him, but she couldn’t do anything about it. She prepared another room for you, right next door, and decorated it herself.”

Cynthia remained expressionless. “Does Filip live here, too?”

Cynthia felt suspicious because she didn’t see any male stuff in the room.

“No, he doesn’t. They are not sharing a room now, Bree replied.

She didn’t understand why Cynthia asked such a question and kept observing her expression. “I see. You can go.” Cynthia casually replied.

After Bree left, Cynthia walked into the room. She’d been living here for over twenty years, but Lilian took it. It made her uncomfortable. She thought. That’s so typical of Lilian. She steals everything of

mine.

It started when they were still in

Cool. Lilian wanted everything Cynthia owned, including her clothes, jewelry, shoes, used pencils, and school bags. Cynthia never lacked those things, so she gave Lilian whatever she wanted.

As time went on, Lilian became more and more greedy. She wanted to steal her spot in debate, scholarship, and even Filip Looking back, Cynthia found it funny,

It was so obvious but she still failed to see Lilian’s true colors back then. Perhaps Lilian was so good at pretending.

Lilian would keep her company when the teachers gave her timeouts. Lilian, despite her fear, would defend her when others spoke ill of her.

When Cynthia was in the hospital, Lilian would skip her lessons to bring her homemade fish soup. Cynthia believed that Lilian genuinely considered her as a friend. She didn’t care about other things.

Looking back, Cynthia found Lilian was an expert at manipulating people. She walked around the room and finally sat down on the chair in front of the dresser.

There were few cosmetics on the dresser, but there were plenty of pretty hair elastics. Cynthia found some of them familiar, She suddenly remembered that they were hers.

They were gifts from Lilian. Lilian couldn’t afford expensive gifts, so she loved giving her hair elastics.

Cynthia thought. It’s the thought that counts. She used to keep them in her jewelry box like treasures. But after Filip cheated on her with Lilian, she threw the whole box away.

She didn’t expect Lilian to pick

them up again. Why? It reminded her of what had happened over the years. Cynthia felt the irony and sad at the same time. All content © N/.ôvel/Dr/ama.Org.

Cynthia wanted to see how many of her abandoned items Lilian picked up. She pulled open the drawer and inside was all

her stuff. There were inany–lipsticks she had used years before. They were dry, but still neatly put inside.

One of her broken watches and lost necklaces were kept in delicate boxes. Cynthia suddenly felt a bit confused.

The watch and necklace were broken. She remembered throwing them into the trash bin. She wondered why Lilian fished them from the trash and kept them for so many years. Did she want to remind her of the humiliation she had while with her?

Cynthia couldn’t understand. But soon, she found a small medicine bottle with a Latin name in the drawer. She couldn’t read it at all.

Cynthia opened it and took a look. She thought, Lilian is pregnant. Why is she taking medicine?” She snapped a photo of it and sent it to Hector.

She wanted him to check what kind of medicine it was. Three minutes later, she got a message. Hector said it was a drug for treating heart disease.

But it had long been off the market because it had serious side effects, especially for men. Cynthia continued to ask what the side effects were.

Hector didn’t reply immediately. After a while, he sent her an article about this medicine’s side effects that appeared in the publication Lancet.

Cynthia read it carefully. If males took them for a long period, it would result in sexual dysfunction. It also caused purple lips and grey skin.

Cynthia wondered, “Why is Lilian having such kind of medicine? Something is fishy!

Soon after, the butler summoned Cynthia for dinner. Before leaving, she took the bottle of medication with her.

It was already late when the dinner was over. Cynthia said goodbye, ready to leave. Thinking that Filip and Lilian were going home soon, Pamela didn’t ask Cynthia to stay.

Just as Cynthia stepped out of the house, she ran into Filip and Lilian in the front yard. They had mixed feelings at the sig of Cynthia.

Lilian, with a visible baby bump, walked up to her with a surprised look. “Cynthia, what brings you here?”

“Lilian, there are so many rooms in the house. Why did you have to take mine? You like taking what’s mine, right?” Cynthia asked, shooting her a glance.

Lilian changed her face but still pretended to be innocent. “Cynthia, I think you got the wrong idea. Filip and I are married now, so I’m the lady of this house. I can live in any room I want

After Lilian finished speaking, she looked up at Filip beside her. “Filip, am I right?” Filip felt extremely annoyed with his brows knitted. He looked worn out.

Cynthia suddenly remembered the medicine’s side effects when she saw Filip’s pale face and purple lips. She instantly confirmed it was Filip’s medicine.

She wondered if Filip had heart disease. Even so, he was not supposed to take that kind of medicine. Cynthia roughly had a

guess.

Ignoring Lilian, Filip looked at Cynthia. “Cynthia, did my mom ask you to come here?” He assumed his mother had asked Cynthia to persuade him

His mother refused to eat or drink. Filip knew she would call Cynthia. In her eyes, Cynthia was the ideal daughter–in–law. Filip hoped so. “Filip. I have something to tell you,” Cynthia spoke calmly.
