Chapter94 Bystander
Bystander
"What exactly do you want to know, Pearl?"
"Then what do you know about it?" Copyright by Nôv/elDrama.Org.
Perhaps it was because of the lighting in the restaurant, but Alexander's face turned pale inexplicably
as if mentioning this was a very difficult thing for him.
Alexander took a sip of water. Looks like he tried to calm himself down.
"You were pregnant...after that night, right?"
Hearing this, Pearl didn't deny it, nor did she admit it.
But in Alexander's eyes, it was a tacit admission.
He instantly apologised, "sorry, I shouldn't have asked you about this."
For people like Alexander, if you did not put a knife on his neck to force him to speak, he would never
admit that he had made a mistake.
Pearl became a little impatient, "Alexander, did that accident have something to do with you?"
Since he knew what had happened to her that year, then let's put the biggest crime on his head directly.
When people were wronged, it was the easiest for them to reveal their flaws.
People always choose the lesser of two evils.
Sure enough, Alexander's face changed immediately, "No, I have nothing to do with it."
"Did you put drug into my juice?"
"Of course not. How is that possible?"
"Then how do you know the truth?"
"That night..." Alexander tightly clenched his cup and trembled slightly, "I just passed by that night.
Really, I didn't expect that you would encounter such a thing. I dared not interfere, because there were
too many people."
The phrase "too many people" struck Pearl's eardrums like a needle.
Her whole body went stiff.
Indeed, there were many people. Although she was drugged that day, in her vague memory, there were
many people walking toward her. Tall, short, fat, and thin, there were all kinds of people.
She forced herself to calm down, "You passed by that alley? Really?"
"Pearl, you have to believe me. I really liked you back then. How could I possibly do such thing to you?
That day, I made a bet with my classmates and said that I was going to confess my love to you..."
Seven years ago, Alexander, as the president of the school's Public Relations Department, was invited
to that graduation party as well. Initially, he didn't want to attend, but finally he went there when he
heard that Pearl had accompanied her best friend to the party.
Before they went to the party, the boys in his dormitory laughed at him saying he was a coward. He had
not officially confessed his love to Pearl even after four years of liking her. If she didn't stay at school for
her PhD, he would have no chance at all.
Alexander wasn't easily provoked, but probably because of party vibe, he made a solemn bet that he
would confess to her.
At the graduation party of the Foreign Language Department, he wanted to talk to Pearl alone many
times, but failed. It was because of nervousness that he knocked over the juice in her
hand accidentally.
"I thought of a lot of words and even typed out drafts. But you were with your bestie almost the entire
time, so I didn't have a chance."
Alexander's voice grew muffled.
Pearl didn't know how trustworthy his words were, but he was one of the few people who could talk to
her about the details of the graduation party seven years ago.
"Later, your bestie drank too much, so you let her boyfriend send her home."
Her boyfriend?
Pearl frowned. After all, seven years had passed, and Alexander shouldn't have any impression of
Richard. Now that he thought about it, he would probably think he was Adriana's boyfriend.
"Go on." Pearl tried to confirm the authenticity of his words from his facial expression.
Alexander's expression gradually tensed. "I followed them from a distance after you sent them away.
Later, you took the small path back to school, and I followed you, then..."
Then, it was the nightmare.
"Pearl, I'm really relieved after I found out that you have never given up your studies, and that you're a
good doctor now. I'm really sorry I didn't save you that time."
"Is that what you wanted to tell me?" Pearl forced herself to calm down.
She had no right to ask a bystander to make a sacrifice to save her. As Alexander said, there were so
many people at that time, even if he rushed up, he might not be able to save her.
It was enough for him to feel guilt and remorse over the past few years. But all these was useless.
Alexander suddenly asked, "Pearl, you can also have a good life abroad. Why did you wanna come
back?"
His words "why did you wanna come back" made Pearl alert.
"Can't I?"
"That's not what I meant. Isn't it good to start all over again in somewhere else?"
Okay, now there was one more person who wished she didn't come back.
Pearl suddenly realised that the reason why Alexander had invited her to meet up. Maybe he really
wanted her to leave Kityall City.
"Alexander, if this is the only thing you wanted to tell me, you don't have to, and you don't have to feel
guilty, since you don't have any obligation to save me." Pearl was about to leave.
"Pearl, don't investigate that matter anymore." Alexander suddenly said.
His voice was very anxious, and his handsome face was covered with cold sweat.
Pearl's action paused for a moment, and then she asked, "Why?"
The bystanders were innocent. Since Alexander swore that he had nothing to do with that matter, that it
wasn't him who drugged her. Why was he so nervous now?
"Just don't. You can't do anything about it even if you find out the person behind it."
"What are you talking about? The person behind it?"
Alexander's face turned pale.
"Alexander, if you really have a hint of apology and sympathy for me, can you tell all you know about
it?"
Now Pearl was sure that he must know something.
After thinking for a while, Alexander opened his phone, found a blurry photo, and showed it to Pearl.
It was a car. To be exact, it was a car number.
The moment Pearl saw the photo, her pupils suddenly contracted.
Suddenly, the sound of an engine on that rainy night rang in her mind. She clearly felt that at the end of
the alley, there was a car quietly parked there. As everything started to happen in the alley, the car
started the engine and left coldly.
