Chapter 0393
Chapter 0393
Even the slow-witted Angela realized something was wrong. She blinked. "How could this be such a coincidence? This must be intentional, right?"
Candice remained calm. She looked at the broken teapot on the ground. It had shattered into pieces, with sharp edges and corners. The tea inside had splashed everywhere and it was still warm, indicating that the water had been boiled a little while ago.
It was clear how ruthless the culprit was.
Angela waved her hand in front of Candice. "What's wrong with you? Are you in shock?"
Candice looked up but didn’t answer Angela's question. She asked Sawyer. "Did they say when they started the maintenance?"
"Ten minutes ago."
Candice's fingertips curled up. Ten minutes ago was exactly when their meeting ended. The person had timed it perfectly.
But who could it be that hated her to this extent?
Candice's thoughts were chaotic, but soon a person's face appeared in her mind.
Sonia.
Among the people who she had conflict with and was in Solaris, other than Sonia, she couldn’t think of anyone else.
She looked at Alex subconsciously, only to see him frown coldly, and his black eyes icy. Alex happened to look up too. Their eyes briefly met in the air, then quickly separated.
Candice had a feeling that Alex must have already known who did it.
She took a deep breath, about to speak, when she heard Angela's voice beside her.
Angela touched her chin and said, "Candy, I think you might be overthinking this. Maybe that person didn't intend to hit you but wanted to hit Mr. Elysian instead. They just had a bad aim and almost hit you. After all, you don't have any enemies in Solaris, and Mr. Elysian is in business. There might be some business rivals targeting him."
The more she said, the more reasonable it sounded.
She ended with a solemn reminder to Sawyer. "If things don't improve, you should quickly hire a bodyguard for Mr. Elysian, so as not to endanger others."
Sawyer coughed softly, not daring to respond.
Angela looked innocent, appearing completely justified. She even added without a trace of embarrassment. "Mr. Elysian, I'm not kidding. Candy is pregnant and shouldn't be under stress. Your recent scares are too dangerous for her." She quickly took the wheelchair from Hanley's hand and helped Candice sit on it, then waved her hand. "You handle this matter quickly. The baby can't hear about these cunning schemes. It's cold and windy here. I'll take her over there and wait for you."
She did not wait for anyone's response and pushed the wheelchair away.
The wheels made a slight sound on the ground, and Angela breathed a sigh of relief. After taking Candice to a sheltered place, Angela looked up at the building with a complicated expression.
Although the Browns were not extremely wealthy, they could be considered middle class. Angela herself was astute and would not be oblivious to any tricks. So, her previous remarks were just to deliberately change the topic.
Candice also understood this, so she did not resist when Angela pulled her onto the wheelchair.
She looked up at Angela quietly. "What have you found?"
Angela had chosen her position well, blocking the view from the conference hall and creating a blind spot.
Shaking her head, Angela said, "I haven't found anything, but I just feel that even though you are the victim in this, you don't need to get involved. You have so much to consider now that you're pregnant. It's best to be cautious in everything. Let the two men handle the rest."
Angela's words sounded natural, but Candice frowned slightly. It was in her nature to be hands-on with everything, especially matters concerning herself. Letting others handle them...
Angela sensed her thoughts and sighed. "Think about your baby. Can you afford to be so reckless?"
She said these things out of kindness, and Candice remained silent for a moment before murmuring. "Thank you."
"What for? I'll still need your help in the future. We should help each other."
Whilst Candice and Angela were chatting lightly, on the other side the atmosphere between Alex and Hanley was not good.
Both of them had unpleasant expressions.
Hanley glanced at the broken teapot on the ground, his lips curling in a slight mockery. "Accident?"
Alex's gaze also fell on the pile of shards. His tone did not betray any emotion as he countered Hanley. "Mr. Baldwin, don't you care about your employees? Don't you know she should be resting in bed now?"
Hanley frowned for a moment. Alex was right. Candice did need rest now, and it was his fault for not stopping her. He took a deep breath, his face serious. "It's my fault."
Alex sneered. "If you think letting her do whatever she wants is good for her, then it only proves that you don't understand her enough."
His words sounded light, as if he was just casually reminding Hanley that his relationship with Candice was far from sufficient. It sounded like a provocation, but also like a demonstration.
A dark emotion flashed in the bottom of Hanley's eyes, and he paused before reminding Alex. "Mr. Elysian, do you really think you understand Candice?" He looked down, then back at Alex, his expression devoid of emotion. "Even if you did, that understanding is merely in the past."
The cold wind of winter blew on their skin, chilling them.
Alex's black eyes stared at Hanley. Although he showed no expression, his sharp gaze indicated that he was in a very bad mood.
Hanley was not intimidated. He locked eyes with Alex, his gaze equally cold and fierce.
Meanwhile, Sawyer felt helpless, not knowing what to do. He could only stare blankly at the shards on the ground.
However, the tension between Hanley and Alex did not last long.
Angela called out loudly from the other side. "Are you two not done yet? I have to leave now, get someone over here."
Hanley was the first to break eye contact and calmly turned to walk towards Candice.
But just as he took a few steps, he heard Alex's deep voice. "Mr. Baldwin doesn't seem to care about whether Burning Star can successfully bid for the project. I presume you've already figured out a solution?"
Hanley paused for a moment, showing the same lack of concern. "Mr. Elysian, why don't you first consider Aether's own situation?"
He strode towards Angela and Candice.
Sawyer watched Hanley’s figure disappear around the corner where they were sheltered from the wind, then hesitated and turned to ask Alex. "Mr. Elysian, should I contact Darius about the tender? We agreed to cooperate, but now he's going against us. It's not like he'll gain much benefit..." NôvelDrama.Org (C) content.
"Sawyer." Alex interrupted him before he could finish his sentence. Alex's gaze swept over the shards on the ground once again, his voice now carrying the chill of the wind. "Look into the conference room surveillance more carefully, and also..."
He paused, closing eyes. "Be more vigilant of Candice’s matters."
