My Mirror Image by Maybe Not (Candice And Alex’s)

Chapter 0385

Chapter 0385

"Hey, why are you walking so fast? Didn't you see Mr. Elysian? Is he here to see you?" Angela repeatedly reached out to grab Candice, sounding puzzled.

Candice didn't slow down. "He's not waiting for me."

Sonia was still around today, so Alex should be here to pick her up.

Candice didn’t really care. She just didn't want to see Sonia's triumphant look.

Watching people you dislike living their life happily can be quite annoying. Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.

Despite that, Angela held Candice and said, "Who said he isn’t here for you? When you came out, his eyes were practically glued to you."

Shaking her head, Angela took Candice directly to Alex. Without beating around the bush, she asked, "Mr. Elysian, are you here for Candice? If you are, give us a sign."

Candice's expression faltered when she heard Alex's deep voice saying, "Yes, I'm waiting for her."

Angela exclaimed, "You should’ve just said so! Luckily, I’m smart, and I guessed correctly. Otherwise, she might’ve thought you were waiting for someone else!"

With a wave of her hand, Angela added, "Alright, I'll leave you two alone."

After Angela left, Alex unlocked the car. "Get in."

Candice looked at Alex without moving.

"If you have something to say, say it here."

Alex raised an eyebrow and clicked his tongue before saying casually, "I thought you knew your father came to see me. He even said in front of an important client that I'm his son-in-law and invited us to dinner tonight."

Candice was taken aback.

She hadn't expected Henry to directly approach Alex.

A wave of unpleasant emotions surged within her as she clenched her fists, enduring the discomfort.

"You could have refused him directly. Besides, he misunderstood."

Alex's dark gaze lingered on her. Without uttering a word, he conveyed an unspoken insistence, or maybe he wasn't in the best mood right now.

Candice didn't know what Henry had told Alex or what trouble he had caused.

But the point was that she was the reason Henry was acting this way.

After a moment of silence, she opened the car door and got in.

Both Sawyer and the driver weren't present; Alex had driven here himself. They drove in silence, the atmosphere inside the car heavy.

It wasn't until they arrived at the restaurant chosen by Henry that Candice spoke in a hushed tone, "If you feel uncomfortable, you can leave first."

Alex lowered his head to adjust his cufflinks. "If I leave first, the business circle of Solaris will be filled with rumors about me disrespecting my father-in-law and looking down on people."

His tone was indifferent, as if he was stating facts.

Candice could sense the blatant sarcasm in his words, but she couldn't refute him, as Henry might indeed do such a thing.

She took a deep breath. "I will explain to him and clear up the misunderstanding. He probably jumped to conclusions."

Alex glanced at her with a faint, indifferent expression. "Do you think he will believe you?"

He seemed not to care much.

When they entered Henry’s reserved private room, Candice realized it wasn't just Henry present. There were two other men, who seemed like good friends with him.

After Candice and Alex entered, one of the men in a floral shirt immediately exclaimed, "Hey, Henry, your daughter is really something. She's actually dating Mr. Elysian! I can’t believe you never mentioned this before; you were quite low-key about it."

Henry, sitting at the head of the table, waved his hand dismissively with a faint smile. "These are young people's affairs. How would an old man like me know? I only learned about it recently when Candy brought Mr. Elysian to Solaris."

He remembered to invite Candice and Alex to take their seats after speaking.

Pointing to a seat next to him, he said, "Come, Candy, sit here. Lex, join us for a couple of drinks."

Candice looked at Henry's nonchalant demeanor as her brows furrowed slightly. Even if she felt uncomfortable, she could only endure it.

As Alex had said, if they didn't show Henry some respect today, rumors about them would likely flood Solaris by tomorrow.

Such gossip would spread like wildfire, especially in the business circle.

Candice and Alex had just come to Solaris, so it would be wise to keep a clean record.

The two took their seats one after the other.

When Henry saw that, his expression became even more relaxed. He sighed and poured a glass of soft drink for Candice.

With a sigh, he started speaking while holding Candice's hand, "Candy, I was wrong. I was just too angry; that was why I lost my temper with you. But ask Uncle Sam and Uncle John—for all these years, I have not stopped thinking about you. I didn't return to Dorrington for a reason. I came to Solaris alone to make a name for myself. Do you think it was easy? I missed you, but I really couldn’t leave!"

Henry spoke in a sorrowful tone while holding Candice's hand. "I’ll make it up to you. I’ll give you whatever you want. Just don't be angry with me…"

Candice furrowed her brows. She wanted to pull back her hand, but Henry held it tightly, causing her wrist to ache.

Seeing this, Sam and John sighed, expressing sympathy for Henry's difficulties over the years.

Finally, with a wave of their hands, they said, "Every parent cares about their children. Forget about the past. It's behind us. Let's just move on."

Henry sighed again.

Candice didn't retrieve her hand. She coldly watched Henry and his friends act out their play, finding it rather amusing.

She was curious about what excuses Henry would come up with.

However, Henry, seeing the situation was favorable, shifted his gaze from Candice to Alex while wearing a friendly but profound expression.

He stared at Alex and pondered for a moment before saying, "Since we're family, Lex, I won't beat around the bush. Actually, I've got a bone to pick with you."

The atmosphere at the dining table instantly froze.

Alex lifted his head and looked at Henry coldly while asking, "Really?"

"Candy is my baby girl. Although I haven't been with her for these years, I know she's an outstanding and lovely woman. I know you have money and power, but you're not treating her well."

Alex's movements came to a halt, and he subtly raised an eyebrow, his gaze sweeping over Henry. Finally, his eyes met Candice's for a moment in mid-air.

Wearing an appearance of sincere inquiry, he asked Henry, "What gave you that impression?"

Henry's expression instantly turned serious. He faced Alex squarely, lowering his voice as he said, "Candy is pregnant now. If you truly care for her, why would you bring her to Solaris to suffer? I’m sure that you have a house for her in Dorrington."

The delicacy of his words drew a self-mocking expression on Candice's face.

Henry might seem to have asked that out of concern for her, but in reality, he was testing Alex.

She shifted her gaze to Alex, intending to stop him from responding.

However, she heard Alex's measured response. "So, you think that leaving her in Dorrington to bear the child would be considered treating her well?"
