Chapter 0380
Chapter 0380
Sonia's face flashed with astonishment and panic the instant she laid eyes on Candice.
She instantly concealed it with a forced smile and questioned, "Candice, why are you here?"
Candice was equally surprised.
Sonia appeared different than before. Her image of the innocent girl next door had vanished.
She now wore thick makeup, complete with cat eyes. Sonia had also had her straight hair permed into huge curls. Her attire was overly sensuous and ill-fitting. The new look made her look like a child dressed up in adult attire.
Candice took some time to inspect Sonia before gently saying, "This is my room. It seems like you've lost your way."
Her statement appeared to irritate Sonia, whose face darkened immediately. She stared at Candice and said, "I didn't even realize you were here. What's the deal with your harsh words?"
After a brief moment of shock, Candice addressed Sonia's angry stare with a chilly retort, "Harsh words? You're the one who came knocking on my door. Sonia, you are practically making a scene here. I can have security escort you out right now."
Hanley had made the reservation for the room. It was a high-end suite that was very serene. In fact, the entire floor was quiet, and Candice's remarks were clearly heard.
She stared blankly at Sonia, watching her expression change dramatically.
Candice began to regret her decision to change rooms, which had led to this surprising encounter.
Sonia placed a hand against her chest. She wore a strapless bodycon dress, and any reckless movement increased the chance of exposure.
She didn't expect to run into Candice here. Furthermore, she was mortified to discover that she had gone to the wrong room—she should have knocked on 909 instead of 906.
Her chest heaved heavily as she fought to contain the embarrassment and wrath that were swelling inside her.
Sonia raised her eyes and shot Candice a solemn gaze. She bit her lip and said quietly, "Sorry. I made a mistake."
Candice wore an uninterested expression.
Sonia clenched her fist tightly, keeping her emotions in check before leaving.
Candice was ready to return to her room when she heard footsteps coming. She looked up and saw Alex approaching her.
She gave a little frown. Then, her gaze unwittingly turned to the direction in which Sonia was leaving.
The timing was almost perfect. Sonia had just walked away, and Alex had returned.
Alex carried the refreshing scene of rain with him, which meant it was most likely raining out there. He came to an abrupt stop next to Candice and asked in a deep voice, "What are you looking at?"
"Sonia was here," Candice explained softly.
Her response caused Alex's brow to twitch as if in shock.
Candice averted her gaze and retreated to her room.
Alex immediately followed her inside.
They were unaware that Sonia, who was meant to be on her way out, was doubling back around the corridor.
She stared at Candice's room door in bewilderment.
Sonia had stormed out earlier because she hadn't mentally prepared herself to confront that man. When she returned, she accidentally saw Alex and Candice enter the room together. © NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
Her gaze fixed on the door, and she began to wonder if Alex and Candice had been together all this time. Alex refused to forgive her, but he was able to share a room with Candice so openly.
Sonia dug her nails into the wall and felt a sharp pain from her fingertips due to the force she had applied.
"Sonia? What are you doing over there? I came looking for you when Mr. Green mentioned that you had come looking for me," a man spoke from behind.
Sonia's body tensed in response. She grudgingly turned around and saw a man in his forties looking at her warmly.
When Sonia met his stare, she felt her head explode.
She asked in a dry tone, "Mr. Howles, why did you come out here?"
"I wanted to see if something had happened with you because you hadn't shown up, so I had to come and check on you," he recounted as he pulled Sonia into the room. "It's freezing outside, but it's warmer inside the room, especially since you're dressed so lightly."
The room was much warmer. The moisture of the rain on Alex's clothes vanished. He cast a peek at the untouched food on the table, and his eyes flickered with light.
"You could have dinner in your room," Candice said.
Alex's gaze became sharper and landed on Candice's face. His eyes sent a clear message.
Candice hesitated before stating, "I'm not hungry."
She was neither hungry nor had an appetite. When her surroundings calmed down, she was able to let go of the emotions she had pent up all day.
It would be a lie if she said Henry's action wasn't affecting her emotionally, but she preferred not to express it in front of others.
Her restless emotions caused her to lose her appetite. Her thoughts were a jumbled muddle.
Candice felt compelled to find something to do as it would help take her mind off of things.
She picked up the document she had just laid down.
Alex snatched it before she could open it. He stood in front of her and stared down.
He asked, "What sort of problem can be dealt with without eating? Are you trying to emphasize how worried you are for Henry, or are you neglecting your own health?"
Candice was sitting on the sofa. She looked up at him, and displeasure flickered in her eyes.
She moved slightly backward to keep a safe distance from Alex, reasoning, "I don't have an appetite, and it's none of your business."
Alex simply gazed at Candice, which made her uneasy.
She bit her lip and turned aside, adding, "You should take the food and leave. I need to get some rest."
Clearly, she was asking him to leave.
Alex slowly averted his gaze. He examined Candice before saying, "Shawn called me. He wanted me to see that you had dinner."
Candice was stunned, but she knew Shawn would do something like this.
She hesitantly ate a little because of Shawn's threatening influence. She did not eat much, but Alex made no additional comment.
He appeared to have shown up in her room to fulfill Shawn's request. Alex left after dinner.
Candice noticed his phone on the table flashing with a new notification just before he left. He received a WhatsApp message with a charming bunny avatar—it was Sonia.
Alex's gaze dropped. He had clearly seen the message too.
His look remained calm as he nonchalantly picked up his phone and walked away.
Candice felt sick as she watched him leave, almost as if she were going to throw up the food she had just eaten.
Alex was still in touch with Sonia. How could he sit there casually dining with her—didn't he know the two had bad blood? Had he forgotten that Sonia had persuaded Ivor to harm Joe?
Candice stayed seated for some time before realizing what had happened.
Alex hadn't forgotten or been in the dark. Sonia's continuing presence was only possible given that he had been protecting her.
