Chapter 0374
Chapter 0374
The woman had a slender and fragile form. She lay on her side and curled up on the sofa like a kitten. Her long, dark hair was laid down on her back.
Candice tightened her brows and was restless in her slumber.
Alex lowered his eyes and observed her closely. The look in his eyes was dark and solemn.
The temperature in the room felt a little low for him.
He dropped his gaze as he pivoted and went into the room.
Candice's phone ringtone woke her up from her sleep. She had placed it beside her earlier, so she reached out to answer the call.
Shawn's worried voice came through, and he asked, "How are you doing, Candy? Do you feel better?"
Stunned, Candice replied quietly, "Actually, I'm much better now."
"Oh, no! Did I wake you up?" Shawn exclaimed upon hearing her raspy and nasal voice.
"Not really. Just a little tired," Candice responded.
"That's good to hear. You need to rest. I've ordered some food for you and that rascal. You need to remind him to have his meal. I also heard about his wound infection from Sawyer," Shawn urged.
He sighed a little and continued worriedly, "Alex might be a troublemaker, but he's still my grandson."
After an exchange of a few more words, he ended the call to not disturb Candice's sleep.
She lay on the sofa for a while with the phone in her hand. Her limbs felt numb from falling asleep in an odd posture.
Her gaze soon rested on the blanket that covered her body. Stunned, she slowly averted her sight in the direction of the bedroom.
Candice expected Alex to be asleep when she entered the bedroom with a thermometer and his medicine. She was shocked to find him still working.
She set the blanket aside and said softly, "Time to take your temperature."
Alex stopped his work and looked up at her. His voice was less hoarse than before as he asked, "Did you get enough sleep?"
Candice grunted and said, "Uh-huh. Thank you." Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.
Clearly, her thank you was directed at his kind gesture for covering her with the blanket.
The pills had taken effect. Alex's fever had lowered from 39 to 37.5 degrees Celsius.
Candice breathed a sigh of relief at the discovery.
He showed full cooperation with Candice when she dressed his wound. Due to his ordeal yesterday, the edges around a few particularly severe wounds had turned white.
Candice patiently applied the medicine to his wounds. She wrapped up around eleven o'clock, packed up her stuff, and was ready to leave Alex's room.
She paused her steps when something crossed her mind, asking, "Did you find any information about Darius through Henry?"
Alex's brows twitched slightly. The look in his eyes remained calm and detached as he replied, "It's not possible to get anything from him."
"Forget it then. Darius is the one behind it, and he's very cautious about his actions," Candice added.
Alex wasn't particularly surprised, and he seemed to have long anticipated this.
After that, Candice returned to her room to get some much-needed rest. She had suppressed her foul mood all day long, which left her feeling tense and tired.
When she swiped the key card at the door, she found herself couldn't unlock the door despite repeated efforts. A strange tightness clenched her heart as she turned her gaze to look at both sides of the empty corridor.
Holding the key card tightly in her hand, she looked down and called the front desk to send someone to unlock the door for her.
The hotel staff arrived swiftly and identified there was an issue with the card's magnetic strip.
Candice gave a nod in understanding. However, she secretly considered switching rooms. She casually brought this up with Hanley the next day when they discussed concerns about Redshade Corporation.
"Is there a problem?" Hanley wondered.
Candice had some suspicion but lacked any solid evidence. Therefore, she said nonchalantly, "The room's water heater isn't great, and it's located a little too far from the elevator. It felt like a long walk when I returned at night."
