Chapter 25
Chapter 25
To Shirley, Old Man Yates had always been a superhero. Whatever she wanted, he would make it happen. Cynthia wanted Shirley to be happy for the rest of her life. That would be enough as long as she and Old Man Yates understood the situation.
Cynthia let out a sigh, about to buy some of Shirley’s favorite treats, when the phone in her hand started vibrating. The name ‘Joshua‘ appeared on the screen.
She swiped to answer. “Hello?”
“How’s your family?” Joshua asked.
“They’re fine.”
“I want you to come with me to a dinner party tomorrow night. Send me your address, and I’ll have Yoel pick you up.”
Cynthia furrowed her brow. “A dinner party?”
“Yes, with the chairman of Yates Group.” Joshua’s attractive voice came through the phone.
Cynthia groaned inwardly.
Joshua sat in his hotel room, staring at the email Cynthia had sent him earlier. As he read the contents, his eyes darkened. “Didn’t you say you were the heir to Yates Group? It would be easier for us to talk if you came.”
“I won’t go,” Cynthia refused outright.
Joshua was determined to find her identity. “If you don’t go, I’ll put up a ‘missing person‘ notice for you on the big screens outside Nexuria’s malls the day after tomorrow. Whoever finds you will get a million dollars.”
Cynthia was speechless.
Joshua said, “I believe someone will be happy to make that money.”
“Do I need to remind you that we’re getting a divorce?” Cynthia felt it necessary to remind him. “I’m not interested in your activities. I was just joking when I mentioned that before.”
“We’ll see if it’s a joke after you come tomorrow.” Joshua did not even try to hide his
intentions.
As Cynthia thought about something, she responded, “Aren’t you afraid that after Jayleen in Jiverton sees you with me in Nexuria, she’ll cry her eyes out in the hospital every day?”
“She won’t.” Joshua was certain.
“Really?”
“Yes.”
“Well, you clearly don’t understand women. If you don’t contact her for a month, and you go to a dinner party with me while you’re supposed to be divorcing me, she’ll definitely think you don’t love her anymore or that you fell in love with me during our two–year marriage.‘
“Jayleen is not like you. I had Yoel tell her about this, and she agreed.”
Cynthia just said, “Oh.” Her emotions were unreadable.
Jayleen might be able to handle other matters, but after their encounter at the hospital, it was clear she valued her position as Joshua’s wife too much. anxious she would become.

Consider whether you want to come or not,”
These days, she might have been trying to find out about their divorce and the current situation, whether Joshua had any lingering feelings for her or about the division of assets in their divorce.

He knew Cynthia would agree. She would not want her picture and information to the big screens. However, Cynthia planned to go, not because of his threat.

She went, only to dispel Joshua’s suspicions. She did not want Joshua to think she had ulterior motives for getting close to him. Ever since she planned to marry him, she wanted to live as Cynthia, not as the heir to the Yates Group.
