Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 163

Her voice was soft, almost like she was just making a casual observation. Without waiting for him to reply, she answered her own question.

"You never did. If you had ever seen me as your wife, you wouldn't have brushed aside my feelings and thoughts. You wouldn't have treated me however you wanted, embarrassing me in front of others. To you, I'm just a convenience when you're in need," she said, a wry smile on her lips. "Everett, if you want something, make it quick. Don't waste my time."

She lifted her hands, wrapping them around his neck, and kissed him.

What should have been a passionate moment turned into a mechanical routine. Everett's body was still heated, but his heartfelt disappointment was empty. After a moment, he finally pulled away, saying, "Selena, you win."

With that, he got up, stormed into the bathroom, and turned on the shower. The cold water cascaded down, droplets running along his hair and cheeks.

He leaned against the wall, Selena's words echoing in his mind, the light in his eyes flickering.

It took Selena a while to compose herself and get out of bed.

Gazing at her reflection in the vanity mirror, she saw new marks on her neck and chest, layered over those from the day before. It was a disheartening sight. Muttering curses under her breath, she changed into a turtleneck sweater and a long skirt, finally managing to cover the marks.

When Selena went downstairs, Joy was on the sofa, staring blankly at the now-cold cup of tea on the coffee table.

"Sorry, Joy. I had some things to handle. Did you wait long?" she asked, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear.

Joy glanced up at her.

Despite Selena's conservative outfit, the subtle hints in her demeanor and the slight swelling of her lips hinted at what had happened.

No wonder Ava had seemed so awkward earlier, hesitating as she served the tea.

Joy's fingers curled slightly before she relaxed them and smiled, pretending to know nothing. "Oh, it wasn't long. It's my fault for dropping by out of the blue." She took a sip from her cup as if to distract herself.

Selena stopped her. "Don't drink that, it's cold. I'll have Ava bring you a fresh cup."

"Don't worry about it. I'm actually quite thirsty, and cold tea hits the spot," Joy replied, downing the tea and feeling the chill settle in her chest.

Seeing this, Selena shook her head with a smile but still asked Ava to bring over two cups of hot tea and some fruit.

"Joy, why did you come by?" Selena asked, taking a sip of her hot tea.

"I heard your aunt was giving you a hard time, so I came to check on you."

Joy examined Selena's cheeks, noticing the fading but still slightly swollen handprint. Anger flared in Claire and her crew tried

Unbelievable!"

Selena replied calmly, "It's fine. What I went through wasn't for nothing. They've been caught. Assault, drugging, and illegal activities- recorded it all. The evidence is solid.

They get what's coming to them."

She hadn't chosen a roundabout way to deal with them but confronted them directly to get their confessions.

Only by turning them against each other could the police gather enough evidence to bring them all to justice.

"That's true, but I can't just let this slide! And I heard Lydia was still pointing fingers at you in her statement, blaming you for everything. She's shameless!"

Joy's heart ached for Selena, and

she was determined to stand up for her. "Selena, we can't just let this go. I'll make sure Lydia and her gang's misdeeds are exposed. She likes attention, right? I'll have her face plastered on the front page for a week! Let everyone see who she really is!"
