Marrying my high school bully

I’ll be there with you

Chapter 24

Dexter

There was a quick switch in the kind of hormones that rushed through me-the rush of testosterones had dwindled as my adrenaline level rose up. Our secret had been busted and it would be better if I just told her the truth now, seeing how livid she was.

“Your maid, Dex?” Her eyes wide with incredulity. “Are you that horny that anyone can do the job for you?” She fired.

I could feel it. My anger. It was building up already and the reasons I didn’t act on them was because of my relationship with her and my stance on physical violence.

“You have to tone it down, Victoria, she’s my staff not yours.” My voice was gruff and curt, causing her to flinch as she didn’t expect my response.

Lorraine, who was still tightly held in my arms, kept pinching me, whispering that she wanted to get down. I allowed her, knowing that she was anything but comfortable presently.

Victoria slammed the front door shut then traipsed forward with her box. She dropped her bag on the sofa and directed her glare at Lorraine who returned the glare, undaunted. “I was right all along, bitch, but you denied it. Do you know what people like you are?” She stomped her foot on the floor just like Emilia did whenever she was mad.

Bad influence.

Lorraine didn’t allow her to finish and truly, I appreciated her standing up for herself even if it was against my younger sister. “People like me are hardworking and caring, it’s not bad that your brother fell for me and I’m sure that it’s very hard for you to pull that off seeing how malicious you are.” She retorted proudly, taking me aback.

This conversation was actually going the wrong way.

“You, idiot…” She lurched at Lorraine who was fast enough to duck her fist and head for the room.

I could see resignation in her eyes even though she was sounding all strong earlier. Left alone with Tori, I decided to clean the mess.

“Why did you come here?” My anger was becoming unbridled.

She caught a hang of my harsh tone and decided against a snappy response. “I wanted to be around my family. I’ve been all alone and since you said that you’d consider my request, I decided to come this evening.” Her lips were pouted while she fiddled with her fingers.

“But you should have told me first before coming here, that would have been better than the commotion you just caused.” I corrected her.

She dropped onto the sofa, rolling her eyes. “Do I really have to call you before coming? You are my brother.”

“And it’s my house. You know how much I enjoy my privacy so here’s what we are going to do.” I sighed, taking a deep breath because I needed all the calmness I could attain in dealing with the brat seated before me.

Her eyes shone with hope, one that I was about to squash. “I’m listening,”From NôvelDrama.Org.

“You’ll stay here for some days while I search for a house in a nice location for you. Say Beverly Hills, Malibu, any nice neighborhood you choose.”

I could see a flicker of disappointment at first, then after some seconds a grin worked its way to her face. One way to get her way was using material things and I just did that.

I wasn’t even joking when I said that I wanted her to be on her own. It was obvious that Lorraine would never be comfortable in her presence and if Victoria was here, then Emilia would have reasons to visit.

The chain was endless and I didn’t want to think of where it would end.

She sprang to her feet and leaned on my chest. “I love you, brother. Thank you for always having my back, but please allow me to do the same as well. That lady Lorraine, I don’t think she’s good for you. No lady in her right senses would allow such a level of intimacy with her boss. It’s really annoying and disgusting.”

‘There’s a legit reason for that.’ I nearly mouthed but Lorraine wouldn’t be happy that I broke her rules. “Allow me to be the judge of that and don’t treat her with disrespect. I won’t tolerate it next time.” I warned.

Speaking of Lorraine, she was gone for some time without having the dinner I prepared for her. This was one of the reasons I loved my privacy.

“Good night, Tori. You can make yourself comfortable in any of the rooms.” I said in a rush as I headed for our room.

On pushing the door open, I found the bed empty without her or the duvet. Then it occurred to me that she wouldn’t be sleeping in our room because of…

My house was a big one which had several rooms. There were about five rooms in my wing and if she didn’t want to create any suspicion, she’d have to go to another wing in the house.

I quickly headed to the less beautiful part of the house where any of my staff would stay if I eventually employed a live-in maid. I didn’t need to check other rooms because a sniffle which could only be hers, caught my attention.

“Lorraine,” I knocked and the room became silent immediately, but I didn’t give up. “Can I come in?”

She didn’t respond as she continued to sniffle, increasing my nervousness by the second. After what seemed like eternity, I heard footsteps advancing towards the door. The knob twisted, the door opening slightly for me to come in.

I caught her wrist before she could get to the bed and twirled her around so that I could watch her reaction while I talked to her.

Her beautiful face had turned red and puffy with tears, her eyes were quite bigger than they used to be but that wasn’t the only thing I noticed. Sadness and unspoken frustration were embedded in them.

This wasn’t my plan.

Though I wanted her to feel so much pain for making me look like a fool for years, I didn’t know that it would hurt me this way. I didn’t realise that for the few months we’ve been together, her pain wasn’t hers alone but mine too.

The discovery was unnerving, because I didn’t want to fall for her again, but seeing how pained she was, I knew in my heart that I could kill so that she would never have to experience such a feeling again.

“Come back to our room, Lorraine. You can’t sleep here alone.” I persuaded her gently.

She shook her head, a reminder of how stubborn she could be. “Sleep here with me instead. Tonight, I just want to forget about everything and enjoy the warmth of your cuddles. Even if we might return to our normal routine, I want to sleep soundly knowing that I’m not alone.”

She didn’t need to speak further as her confession struck a guilty chord in my chest. Because of my selfishness, I’d taken away the little peace of mind she had left but I would never let her go.

Never.

“Anywhere you want to be, I’ll be there with you.” I assured her with all sincerity and took her into my arms
