Chapter 310
The visitor was Murray's assistant.
He mentioned that Mr. Sherwood had left some crucial documents in his study and had sent him to retrieve them.
Given their importance to company secrets and the urgency, Beverley hurriedly led him to the study.
"Is this the one?"
Assistant: "Should be, yes."
"Great, better rush it over to Murray, then."
Millie dawdled her way towards the guest bedroom, pretending to casually pass by the two, when suddenly, she noticed the study door was ajar.
Looking around and finding the upstairs hallway eerily quiet, Beverley must have escorted the visitor downstairs by now.
With a sly glance, she gently pushed the door open...
The study boasted a Western-style L-shaped bookcase, crammed from top to bottom with neatly arranged files.
By the window stood a coffee table, topped with a set of walnut wood coffee service.
To the left, a light-colored solid wood desk harbored a pencil holder and a few scattered books.
Other than Sadie, who came in for cleaning on a schedule, the study was usually locked. Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.
And Millie was expressly forbidden from getting anywhere near.
Yet here she was, inside.
Feeling a smug satisfaction, Millie approached the desk to find two leather document holders, both unsealed.
She picked one up, opened it, and glanced at a sheet from inside - it was full of professional jargon and figures she didn't recognize.
Not knowing what it was but curious, she took a single page out and tucked it into the other document holder before rearranging everything to look untouched.
Just then, Beverley's voice, along with footsteps, echoed, "Sadie, where's Millie? Wasn't she just here? Where could she have run off to?"
Millie, feeling a rush of panic, hurriedly left the study before Beverley could find her.
Leaning against the wall, she took out her phone, pretending to browse videos.
Beverley frowned, "Didn't you say you were going to sunbathe? How did you end up upstairs so quickly?"
Millie flashed a weak smile, "It's just
too hot out there, and suddenly I just wasn't feeling it anymore. You know how we pregnant women have a hard time with the heat, right?"
Beverley was used to Millie's barbed manner of speaking, annoying as it was, she chose not to make a big deal of it. "Whatever you say, just don't harm my grandson."
Millie just smirked.
Later that evening, Murray made a quick trip back home.
He went straight to the study to grab two sets of documents, planning to leave immediately after.
Suddenly, his actions paused.
Although the company used standardized document holders, they were printed by two different suppliers.
The paper used by these factories varied slightly in color; one was darker, the other lighter.
He remembered placing the darker one on top and the lighter beneath, but now their positions were switched... Someone had been in his study!
Downstairs, Beverley, seeing her son had barely come home, was about to go up and chat with him when

she saw Murray coming out of the study with a stern expression:
"Mom, have you been in my study?"
Beverley nodded, "Yes, your assistant came by yesterday for some documents. I led him into the study. What's wrong?"
"Did you touch the two document holders on the low desk?"
"The low desk? I only opened a drawer; didn't touch anything else. Didn't even see any document holders." Murray waved the papers in his hand, saying, "Someone messed with these."
Millie, feigning surprise from the side, "The study? Yesterday, only Beverley and the assistant went in, Could someone have accidentally messed things up? The assistant surely wouldn't dare to touch anything, so that only leaves..."
Murray's gaze shifted onto Beverley.
