Chapter 711: An Added Identity
Evan Watson's gaze slightly narrowed. Although Tina had been quiet, he knew of her past deeds. He did not underestimate the girl. "You tell me."
Tina raised an eyebrow, "You have so many capable people working for you, why insist on us?"
The mission sounded dangerous.
They couldn't find the evidence; what made Evan Watson think they could?
A GTO was already tough to handle, and Dorothy Russell's backers hadn't been identified yet.
She didn't want to unwittingly take on a task for no reason.
Mr. Watson hadn't expected her to ask this and was momentarily taken aback.
His aging eyes rested on Jared, whose deep gaze showed no intention of stopping Tina.
Two little foxes.
Evan Watson cursed inwardly, "You two, as newcomers to the hidden clans and per the highest leader's orders, don't have the luxury of disagreement."
A formidable pressure suddenly filled the study.
Ordinary people might have knelt under such presence, but Tina remained firmly seated.
"What if we refuse? Mr. Watson, if you think of commanding us, you're mistaken! I'm not part of your system, just an ordinary citizen. Orders don't work on me!"
She leaned back in her chair, "Besides, the hidden clans have many skilled members with unique secret techniques. Uncle and I are just ordinary people. This task isn't really suitable for us." "You!"
Evan Watson had not known of Tina's existence nor her personality until today.Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.
He had thought they were just two kids easy to manipulate, having only called Ruud today to discuss another matter. Yet, just dealing with Tina proved difficult!
Mr. Watson turned to Jared, "You might not be employed by the government, but Jared, the first iron rule of the X Bureau is to obey orders!"
Jared touched his nose, "Sorry, Mr. Watson, I resigned a while ago. Now, I'm just a regular citizen of Sinoria."
He emphasized the word "regular," a glint passing through his eyes.
Mr. Watson was nearly driven to rage by these two. If not for his status, he would have pointed at Tina and Jared's noses and scolded, "Just what is ordinary about you two?!"
One was a top hacker in the world, whose mother had been the former captain of the X Bureau's special operations team.
The other was the captain of the X Bureau's special operations team!
Ordinary, my foot; even the guards at the gate are more ordinary than them!
Behind the screen.
Ruud's hawk-like eyes narrowed.
Through the thick fabric, he could only vaguely see the shadows of the two.
He couldn't see their faces.
But recalling his encounter with Jared during the day and hearing him now, he felt increasingly uncomfortable.
The young man his father had praised so highly was actually henpecked.
And the young girl, not old but cunning.
In his view, serving the country was the highest honor, yet she dared to refuse. How could Logan pick such a fearful and greedy granddaughter-in-law for his family?
Mr. Watson's expression also darkened, but realizing the directives from above, he eventually softened, "Fine, you two little foxes. Rest assured, we won't let you undertake this for nothing."
He pulled a document from a drawer, "The instructions from above state that during the investigation, all local systems will be fully accessible to you. With this badge, you may act first and report later under justifiable circumstances. You can mobilize local manpower in advance."
Tina and Jared exchanged knowing glances. A man handed over a red-headed file, which he briefly scanned before passing it to Tina. Mr. Watson, seeing their interest, continued, "Departments everywhere will fully cooperate with your investigation. As for the members of your department, as long as you can absolutely trust them, anyone can join the team, provided they are not wanted criminals."
Tina nodded in approval.
"Alright, I have no objections then."
Jared, often teased for being henpecked, also nodded.
"I have no objections either."
They were unsure about other hidden families, but they were certain they had to confront the Bailey family. With the government's support, it was much easier than going it alone. Since the deal was settled, there was no need for them to stay. Mr. Watson, having been manipulated by the young couple, was eager for them to leave, visibly annoyed whenever he saw them.
Just as they were about to leave the study, Tina looked back. A screen embroidered with a tiger descending the mountains, standing two meters tall, completely obscured the view behind it. Mr. Watson's brow twitched irritably. "What are you still looking at? Hurry up and go!"
Jared and Tina exchanged glances and left. On the way back, Jared was driving and glanced at Tina.
"Did you notice something?"
Tina fiddled with an ornament in the car.
"Uncle, don't tell me you didn't feel it."
Besides them and Mr. Watson, there was a fourth person in the room. Jared's eyebrows rose; he knew nothing could be hidden from Tina.
"I didn't notice at first, but..."

"But when we rejected Mr. Watson, he revealed his presence. If it wasn't intentional, it was because our words made him care," Tina added. What kind of person would care about what they said? Jared also wondered, but without seeing the actual person, he couldn't be sure who was behind the screen. After all, there were dragons and tigers hidden there.
"Forget about it, whoever it is," Tina waved dismissively.
"Since Mr. Watson allowed him to listen, he must be trustworthy. It's none of our concern."
While waiting at a red light, Jared squeezed Tina's hand.
"You're right. What are your plans for tomorrow?"
Tina's fingertips moved slightly as she turned to look at him, about to speak when her phone vibrated. Hugo had sent a message: "Tina, remember to attend the perfume launch at our house this weekend." Tina would naturally agree. With a few taps, she replied with a simple "Okay," then turned back to Jared's question.
"What is it, Uncle? Are you trying to make an appointment with me?"
"My time is very precious, ordinary people can hardly get an appointment," Jared's eyes twinkled playfully.
"Then, as your wife, do I have the honor?"
Tina lifted her chin proudly.
"My husband certainly does. So, Uncle, where do you want to take me tomorrow?"
They hadn't even had their honeymoon because of matters relating to the GTO! Thinking about it now felt like a loss. Jared freed a hand to poke Tina's cheek.
"Don't worry, I'll make sure you're satisfied."
