Chapter 9
Wilbur chuckled. “Sure. I’ll try to control myself.”
“Blake and I have decided to hold our wedding at Southlake Resort Island on the sixteenth of this month, and we’re inviting you,” Yvonne said.
Wilbur fell silent for a second before saying, “Why are you inviting me?”
“For you to see how perfect Blake and I are for each other, of course. We’re inviting all the members of Seechertown’s elite. Surely you wouldn’t dare to show up?” Yvonne said proudly.
Wilbur was calm. “So you just want to humiliate me.”
“Don’t call it that! I just wanted you to know that you never deserved someone like me. You’re a chicken if you don’t come. Bastard chicken.”
Wilbur understood what she was getting at. Yvonne was taking it out on him.
She knew that the five million dollars had been useful to the Willows but was not willing to admit it.
This was why she was going to all lengths to humiliate him and bring him down so she would appear better. She wanted to prove that she made the right decision all along.
What a joke. Wilbur sighed, “I’ll be there on time.” He hung up the phone after saying that.
Just then, the door of the house was pushed open, and Faye walked in carrying a bag of groceries.
“Hello, Boss,” Faye said respectfully.
Wilbur smiled lightly. “Did you go shopping for groceries?”
“I didn’t want your meals to be too plain,” Faye said.
“Thank you. You didn’t have to,” Wilbur reassured her.
“Of course I do! I need to eat too.”
Faye changed into her slippers and stored the groceries in the fridge before heading upstairs to change into her pajamas.
This time, she wore a silk dress that went all the way down to her ankles. The neckline was cut low, exposing her smooth shoulders. Her hair was up in a bun, making her look like a wealthy housewife.
Faye was truly a woman of taste when it came to fashion.
“I’m going to make dinner,” Faye informed Wilbur with a smile before heading to the kitchen.
Wilbur nodded while he sat in the living room and watched television.
Very soon, Faye had made a meal of chicken and peas with mashed potatoes. It was a simple meal, but it looked delicious.
Upon setting the table, Faye sat down elegantly. A woman like her had a graceful manner even when having a meal.
“I don’t know how to cook that many things. I’m sorry,” Faye’s expression was apologetic as she spoke.
Wilbur hurried to say, “Oh, this is already wonderful enough.”
After saying that, he dug into his meal and cried out internally. The charm of a woman like Faye was more than what most people could endure.
Faye looked at Wilbur after a few bites. “Boss, we’ve discovered a problem.”
“What problem?” Wilbur said between chewing.
Faye put down her fork, paused for a moment, then said, “A few of the directors secretly copied Blake’s hard drive after getting into Woods Corporate, and we found that he’s got a proposal named Willow Corp.”
“What proposal is that?”
“He has looked into Willow Corp’s financial condition and is planning to marry into the Willow family to gain shares of the company.”
“He wrote all that in the proposal?” Wilbur found that quite hard to believe.
Faye shook her head. “Not exactly, but there was stuff about marrying Yvonne Willow, the company rep. The point is he’s planning to marry her and buy shares of the company until he’s the majority shareholder before getting a divorce. He’s even got the divorce statement drafted. It’s very detailed. I’m pretty sure he’s going to try and legally usurp the entire company.”
Wilbur was stunned. Although he had thought of that, he did not expect Blake to be that thorough. They had not even gotten married yet, but he had already prepared the divorce papers.
A short pause later, Wilbur handed his plate to Faye. “Could I please have more potatoes?”
Faye filled his plate, and Wilbur dug in again.
Faye could not hold it in any longer and asked in a low voice, “Boss, you and Woods Corporate…”
Wilbur glanced at Faye, who quickly looked down and continued eating.
Wilbur took another bite. “Yvonne’s my ex-wife. We just got divorced today, and she’s remarrying Blake Woods.”
Faye’s fork clattered to the floor, the sound ringing through the air.
She could not believe her own ears.
How stupid was Yvonne to get a divorce from Wilbur and remarry Blake?
That being said, this discovery answered a lot of questions that had been bugging her for the past few days.
So, those two idiots had done such a thing.
Faye picked her words carefully and said, “Boss, you don’t need a woman like that.”
Wilbur smiled. “Gather all the evidence you have. I promised to attend their wedding. I’ve got to bring them a proper gift.”
“Got it.” Faye immediately understood what her task was. She silently grieved the fate of those two idiots.
After finishing dinner, Faye brought the dishes to the kitchen while Wilbur lit a cigarette and smoked it in silence.
After she was done, Wilbur said, “You’ve worked hard. Come and get some rest.” After that, he returned to his room.
Faye was a little speechless but could only go back upstairs to her room.
She lay on her bed, unable to figure out why Yvonne Willow would do such a stupid thing.
Wilbur had an endless supply of wealth, and it was proven that he had some kind of superhuman abilities. Besides, he was a pretty handsome guy as well.
After getting to know him over the past two days, Faye realized that he was a rather well-mannered guy. He never looked at her body for too long and never made things awkward between the two of
them. He was indeed a very decent guy.
Where in the world would you find a husband like that?
Not only did Yvonne miss her chance, but she even stooped so low as to do something like that to trigger Wilbur. No, she was not just idiotic. She was irreversibly braindead.
Just as she was fantasizing, her phone rang.
She looked at who the caller was and answered it.
“Miss Yves, we’ve found something new at Woods Corporate,” her secretary said.
“What is it?”
“Woods Corporate has problems with their taxes and accounts, and they’re pretty bad.”
“Good. Keep the evidence safe, and don’t alarm Blake.”
“Got it, Miss Yves.”
“Oh, and bring the people in charge of the tax department as well as fiscal crimes. I’ve got some things to report.”
“Alright, Miss Yves.”
Faye hung up the call and scoffed to herself lightly. “Time’s up, Blake and Yvonne. You guys are going to regret this.”
Lying in bed, she tossed and turned as she struggled to fall asleep. The image of Wilbur’s face came into her mind, and her face turned redder and redder.
The next morning.
Wilbur woke up on time, as usual. He got ready and went to the living room.
What met him there was Faye dressed in a lilac office suit. Her pencil skirt highlighting her curves nicely.
“You’re up early, Miss Yves,” Wilbur greeted her with a smile. Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
Faye bowed lightly as Wilbur walked up to her. He saw two dark circles hanging under Faye’s eyes, the kind that was difficult to hide even with the use of concealer.
“What’s up? Didn’t get enough sleep last night?” Wilbur asked.
Faye turned red all the way to her neck. She lowered her head at once. “My secretary called last night and said there was a problem with Woods Corporate’s accounts and taxes. I’ve invited the people in charge of the Department of Taxes and Fiscal Crimes over this afternoon.”
“Oh. Is it bad?” Wilbur’s interest was piqued at once.
