Chapter 28

Chapter 28 Any Gift For Me?

“Next week, Nathacl said softly, then added, “Hold onto the watch for me for now.”

Upon hearing his response, Maggie fell silent.

In her previous life, Nathael had changed his schedule and rushed back from Ecroabar because of her invitation. He did that despite knowing that she was only using him.

Maggie felt her chest tighten at that thought.

Especially when she considered how long he had to work overtime to come back early, how many troubles he had encountered after changing his schedule, and what opportunities he might have missed.

Noticing Maggie’s prolonged silence, Nathael put down his pen, got up, and walked to the French window. He asked softly. “What’s wrong?”

Maggie snapped back to reality and said, “Nothing. I just miss you.”

“Why are you so good to me, Mr. Harris?” Maggie couldn’t help but ask. It seemed that in all her memories. related to Nathael, she had never been kind to him.

But… why… even when she disappointed him to the extreme, this man was still so good to her.

Nathael’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He looked out at the Ecroabar–style ancient buildings outside the window and remained silent for a long time.

Maggie probably didn’t expect an answer from him. She chuckled and continued, “Mr. Harris, I wish all the best in Ecroabar, and may you achieve great success.” Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.

Nathael’s gaze softened at that. He grunted lightly and said, “Hmm.”

“I’ll take good care of your watch. See you next week.

“See you next week.”

After she made sure that Nathael wouldn’t come back early, Maggie relaxed. She reclined on the sofa and fiddled with Nathael’s expensive watch.

The silver–white dial, the navy blue surface, a diamond at the twelve o’clock position of the pointer, the back of the watch was beautiful, the gears were slowly rotating, and it had a mesmerizing charm. The design was understated and luxurious.

After ending the call, Nathael stood in front of the French window for a long time.

The business cooperation discussion was halfway through, but he suddenly started looking forward to going home.

After a while, Nathael called Alex in and instructed, in a deep voice, “Reinvestigate the Camerons. Focus your investigation on everything related to Maggie

“Also, reinvestigate Joseph.”

“Yes.”

After Alex left the office, Nathael’s phone rang again. He had received a text message.

Maggie had been playing on the sofa for a while, and she couldn’t help but send him another message: ‘Mr. Harris, I’ve been keeping your watch for so many days. Are you going to bring me a gift?”

Nathael looked at the message and couldn’t help but chuckle. His fingers landed on the message, and he typed a few words to reply.

“There’s compensation.”

Maggie looked at the short reply and recalled the compensation she mentioned the other night. She immediately fell back on the sofa, her face flushed, and dared not make any more trouble.

The next day, at five in the evening.

The Camerons‘ banquet was held at the famous Grand Stellar Hotel in Aquapolis. The overall decoration of the banquet hall presented a lively Ecroabar style.

The white hues, matched with a large number of light blue roses, gave the impression of being refreshing and cozy.

As the host and the daughter of the Camerons, naturally, Maggie had to arrive early.

As soon as she appeared, Olivia sent a servant to invite her to the second floor. She offered, “Maggie, I have specially ordered a set of jewelry and picked a few gowns for you. Take a look and see which one you like.”

As soon as they entered the room, Olivia enthusiastically pulled her over and led her to the dressing table.

Maggie was used to this. After all, this was the typical style of her family. Every time there was a public occasion, either Olivia or Madam Cameron would generously arrange everything for her.

But after the banquet, these things were often given to the sweet–talking Sierra.

Maggie used to believe that the Camerons had shown her a great deal of kindness, so whenever Sierra asked for something, she would give it to her. Occasionally, when Sierra forgot to ask, Olivia would borrow Maggie’s things and keep them for herself under various pretexts. Then, hypocritically, she would tell Maggie that she could have them back when she needed them.

Naturally, how could Maggie ask for her own belongings?

Outsiders were unaware of these actions. They only saw Maggie appearing at every banquet, dressed in the latest and most expensive clothes, People envied her good fortune, having such a generous and loving family like the Camerons.

Maggie sarcastically thought to herself. She was indeed qualified, a sight for sore eyes in the eyes of outsiders.

“You always spoil her,” Olivia said. “Don’t worry, Sierra is the star of today’s banquet. I took her to pick out a style she liked this morning. Your style is different from hers. We have chosen these gowns for you. Which one do you prefer?”

Olivia spoke with affection. Her words sounded so genuine that Maggie found them amusing.

Obediently, Maggie looked at the gowns held by the maid. She carefully examined each one and finally chose a simple white dress.

“Isn’t this gown too plain?” Olivia asked, uncertain after the dress was taken down.

“It’s fine. I’m not the star of today’s banquet. This is just right,” Maggie insisted softly.

Olivia nodded in satisfaction. Then, she personally brought the jewelry she had selected. She urged, “Take a look at these. This jewelry was specially ordered for you in advance. Do you like it?”

What caught her eye was a luxurious diamond necklace made up of dozens of diamonds with a teardrop- shaped emerald as the centerpiece. There were numerous tiny diamonds all around the pendant. The emerald was crystal clear, and it was captivating.

Accompanying the necklace were two teardrop–shaped earrings. The main stones were also two emeralds. Under the light, they reflected a dazzling glow, making Maggie delighted at the sight.

“It’s beautiful.” Maggie sincerely admired the piece. Although Olivia’s concern was fake, the gems were real. The design was fashionable, and it was indeed a beautiful set of jewelry.

“I have hired your previous stylist and make–up artist. You can get ready here. I’ll go check on Sierra,” Olivia instructed. She sat Maggie down in the chair in front of the vanity mirror.

The stylist didn’t start working on her hair until Olivia left. She sighed, “Ms. Adam, your mother treats you very well.”

Maggie smiled and agreed, “Yes, I share your thoughts.”

Looking at the servants and the valuable jewelry and gowns scattered around the room, who wouldn’t think they were good to her?

An hour later, the make–up artist’s gentle voice was heard, “Ms. Adam, it’s done.”

Maggie slowly opened her eyes. A gasp filled the room.

“You’re so beautiful! Like a swan!”

“What do you mean by swan? She’s clearly a goddess!”

Maggie stood up and walked to the full–length mirror. She gazed at her own reflection and felt dazed.

How long had it been since she had seen herself like this?

Since her disfigurement and blindness, the world seemed to be filled with nothing but hatred and darkness. Those tough and desperate days, if it weren’t for her hatred towards Nathael, if it weren’t for his

Maggie didn’t understand before, but now she suddenly does.

During those times when she thought the two were entangled and hurting each other, he was actually healing her all along.
