His Identity

Chapter 18

“How lovely to see you darling”, Edmundo said, giving her a hug.

There were just boarding his private jet, heading towards Madrid. Rita stilled, forcing herself to smile.

“It’s not like I had a choice. You literally forced me to come”, she said, taking the seat farthest away from him.

“Glad that you didn’t invite your body guard. You know, I might have to transfer him somewhere else, somewhere far away”, he said.

“Is that a threat Edmundo?”, Rita asked, staring at him, dead in the eye.

“Call it whatever you like. Anyway, what would you have. Chicken, beef, turkey”, he smiled.

“I’m not hungry”, she said, quietly.

“Oh, you must eat”.

“I’m not hungry I ate before coming here”, she said.

“Suit yourself”, he said, going into the inner compartment of the plane.

Rita was relieved at being left alone. She couldn’t bare to stand his presence even for one moment. He was a despicable man and what’s more, disgusting. She couldn’t wait to get this over with and go back home.

She relaxed a bit more on the couch, loving how comfortable it was. Even though she hated Edmundo, she couldn’t help but marvel at the size of his plane. It was the biggest plane which was modernized to suit his taste and style which was extravagant.

The plane’s interior consisted of open back chairs that one could adequately rest on, the murals were of top most quality, adoring the side of the plane. Asides this, at every side of the plane, his initials, EB was scrawled in Latin style giving the plane a regal look.

As the plane journeyed on, Rita fell into a peaceful sleep despite her heart and her body raging against each other.

She woke up with a start later on which was due to the plane jerking her awake. She rubbed her sleep filled eyes, sitting up to see if they had landed.

“Rough ride?”, a voice said.

Looking up, Rita discovered that Edmundo had come to sit very close beside her. She leaned away, her back hitting the side of the plane.Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.

“No, not really. Why haven’t we landed?”, Rita asked.

“We had to make a stop over to refuel. Apparently, the stupid pilot didn’t know we were low on gas. Not to worry though, I’ve sacked his sorry ass”, he said, feeling proud of himself.

Rita stared at him in disgust wondering how someone could be this heartless, he didn’t even care if he had a family to feed.

“But what if he didn’t know. You didn’t have to do that”, she said.

“Oh trust me, he did”, he said, sipping his drink that she suspected was whiskey.

“I see”, she simply said.

He rose to his feet, taking his drink with him. Rita watched him leave, her mind devoid of any reasoning.

“You should really take something. You’re too thin”, he said, closing the door to his private compartment.

Rita sighed, going over to where the food was kept. Even though she didn’t feel like eating, she had to to keep her strength if she was to go through this. As she ate a meal of rice and tomato stew, she heard voices. She stopped for a minute, listening to the conversations.

She rose up without a sound, making her way towards Edmundo’s compartment. She listened for a while, deciding to learn what was going on. Nothing happened for a while and she was just getting prepared to go back when his voice stopped her in her tracks.

“Do you have any information on him?”, he said.

Rita knew that he was on the phone with someone but try as she may, she had no idea who that person was.

“What do you mean no information? How can someone live without anything related to him, there must be something. Search for anything you can find concerning him and get back to me the moment you get something”, he said.

“Good”, he snapped.

Rita knew he had ended his conversation and the next minute, he’ll be coming out. She scrambled back to her seat, picking up her plate from where she dropped it. Edmundo came in soon, giving her a sardonic smile.

“Missed me my darling?”, he chuckled.

“This food is really good, you must thank the chef”, Rita said, completely ignoring his previous question.

“I don’t need to thank him, that’s what I pay them for”, his said, a light frown marring his face.

“You should. Their humans and should be treated with love and respect”, Rita said.

“That’s really not necessary. As long as I’m paying them for the services they render, there’s no need doing that”.

Rita gave up. Apparently, arguing with a fool like Edmundo was like arguing with a wall. It would never move.

“So, what is this event we’re going for”, Rita said, diverting the discussion.

“A wedding ceremony of one of my good friends. It’s going to be a week long event”, he said.

“A week long? I mean, I know weddings are a thing of celebration but don’t you think a week is too long to celebrate that”, Rita said, not quite believing her ears.

She couldn’t understand why people decided to waste funds in the most stupid way when there are children and homes out there without food or shelter. She just couldn’t understand it, it was stupid and downright foolish.

“Rita, why do you behave like you come from the lower class. I really don’t see why we shouldn’t celebrate weddings for a week”, Edmundo said.

“I’m not saying it’s a bad idea but think about those people that would benefit from the funds that would be going into these parties. If you ask me, I think it’s a bit extravagant”, Rita said.

“Sometimes, I wonder if your brain works. Too bad your father gave you his company to run, I really hope you don’t Ruin everything he has labored for”, he said, staring at her with hate filled eyes.

“I won’t stand here and have you insult me. You’re a despicable human being and the only reason I agreed to accompany you to this journey is the love I have for my father”, Rita said, close to tears.

At that moment, she really wished Rodrigo was beside her. He alone could calm her nerves which were suddenly going haywire. She stared at Edmundo, deciding to hold her tongue.

“Are you done talking, I need to prepare for the plane’s landing”, he said, moving over to his seat, buckling it in the process.

“I hope you change one day, I hope you really do”, Rita said, buckling her seatbelt.

“This is me sugar girl. Love me or leave me but I know you know the consequences of doing the latter”, he laughed.

Rita sighed, looking out of the window. Her mind was made up, there was no way on earth she’ll ever marry him. She vowed to destroy her relationship with him no matter what it cost. Her happiness was pivotal. Rita knew just the right thing to do.
