Chapter 21 Surrendering
They arrived at his precinct, she was wearing her oversized hoodie covering her face while he kept on holding to her very cold hand.
She could feel her cold sweat trickled down the back of her spine, as she kept on holding his warm hand firmly until they both arrived at an opened office door.NôvelDrama.Org holds © this.
It was spacious, large enough for her to know that Ian had taken her directly to his superior’s office. They walked down the precinct hall, passing several cops working on their desks, while it was all a blur to her. She kept focusing on her heart, which was beating so hard that she felt as if it could blow up at any given moment.
“Captain.”
“Ah, detective Taylor, nice of you to finally show up…” his captain was a man in his late forties, still buff, and had a respectful authoritative aura that made her feel even more like a cat in a lion’s den. She was gripping her hold on Ian’s hand tighter.
“You’ve met Lisa before, and who’s this?” his captain asked as he looks at her cast arm, then study her appearance from head to toe.
A beautiful woman in her thirties inspects her with a worrying look. Blair was alert instantly, it was as if she could see right through her. And she gasped while quickly getting her bearings when Ian let go of her hand and closed the door behind them.
He was back to Blair’s side in seconds, while the woman whispered something in his captain’s ear.
He glanced at Blair with a judgemental look, and she was considering herself to run away but her feet felt as if it was cemented to the linoleum floor. He studied her just like Ian did the first time he saw her, from head to toe. But then his facial expression changed as if he had recognized her right there and then.
“Detective, don’t make me say it.”
His words were low and strangely sipping to her bones, her heart thump harder, she thought she was about to have a panic attack until Ian’s hand touched her back, calming her down within seconds.
“She’s a person on interest for her husband’s death, she’s Olivia Blair Turner.”
“Detective Taylor, I’m going to ask this once. Think, and honestly answer my question… have you known about her when I gave you her husband’s case file?”
“Yes Sir, and I have my reasons,” Ian said calmly, while he kept his hold on her.
“Damn it, Ian…” The captain cursed and trail his fingers through his hair, frustratingly.
“Dave, you might want to listen to them. And I need to call Shani, he could cause her harm.” Lisa tried to calm him down, Ian had known about her. She had helped him in a couple of his cases, and he was instantly alert when she stated that Blair could be harmed.
The woman came forward and introduced herself to Blair.
“Hello, my name is Lisa. I’m a friend of Dave and also work with homicide for their unsolved cases. They outsourced my service, I’ve also worked with detective Taylor before. And now… I will help you.”
“Lisa, she’s a fugitive. We need to do this by the book. Her case is all over the news. I don’t need the bad press, damn it Taylor you’re putting me in a bad situation here.”
But before Ian could speak, there was a knock on the door.
“Good morning everyone my name is Albert Simmons and I will act as Mrs. Turner’s lawyer. I hereby declare that she is not a flight risk. She is voluntarily surrendering herself and I will be her lawyer and will pledge for her bond. Morning, Captain.” His words were calm, then addressed Dave knowing he had met him and dealt with him on several occasions before.
The older lawyer was opening his leather folder and put the paperwork on the captain’s desk. While Dave groaned knowing that he would have the rest of the day busy with documents and communicating back and forth with Turner’s hometown police department.
“Get Garcia to escort Mrs. Turner and Simmons to interrogation, then I want you back here and explain everything before you’re suspended. This will go on your flawless record Ian, I hope she’s worth it.”
“Dave…” Lisa warned him again and silently told him to calm himself down. But he was frustrated with his best man for harboring a murderer.
“Her reasons better be good.”
“Trust me Dave…” she told him as she patted his hand, while she kept on looking behind her.
Blair was following her gaze but found nothing behind her, while Ian’s hand gripped her tighter for a couple of seconds. But he let Blair go, telling Simmons to keep her close while he calls for Garcia.
Blair was surprised when she saw Detective Garcia, she knew she remembered the name but she didn’t expect that it would be the same woman.
Meanwhile, detective Garcia was busy looking at her surrounding, looking at all the people in attendance. Then she fixed her eyes on Ian who was standing and acting a bit too friendly with the woman she seemed to remember from somewhere.
“Sir, I’m here.”
“Yes Garcia, please escort Mrs. Turner and her lawyer to the interrogation room. Get her details, fingerprints, and file her for self-surrender. Ian, I don’t believe she has been briefed on the Turner’s case. Give her the file she will be reporting to me, you will be suspended until further notice.”
Detective Garcia was taken back by the captain’s order but tried to keep a straight face. She was quick to usher the woman and her lawyer to the interrogation room, leaving the rest behind.
“He’s following her, Dave. He’s a very evil man, I don’t have to see the file to know what happened. You have to make this right, Dave.” Lisa said as soon as Ian leaves to get the Turner’s file from his desk.
Lisa Monroe had been the precinct outsource help, because of her ability to see the dead. Dave had outsourced her parents before both died in an accident. Lisa had struggled with her ability, but after their passing, she managed to pick herself up, and now become the replacement of her parents.
She would see them lingered among their loved ones, or in Blair’s case his murderer.
“You saw him, didn’t you?” Ian asked Lisa soonest he was back with the case file. He put it on Dave’s desk but was back to questioning Lisa.
“Taylor, you’re dismissed.”
“I’m suspended I get it, but I need to know. Sir, her body was covered in bruises. I was trying to get her to the station for petty theft. She was protecting some teen from stealing bread. Then she fainted from lack of food and rest, so I decided to care for her.”
His captain sighed and sit his ass down knowing that he needs to hear Ian’s side of the story, and let the precinct’s paranormal explain more about the murdered husband. Lisa joins the conversation and sits on the last vacant seat.
“… then I burst into the motel room, and she was screaming and crying telling me that he was haunting her…”
Ian was telling his side of the story, perfectly in line with the timeline and at that time Dave knew why Ian was missing a couple of times in the past few days that he was looking for his best detective.
“He is haunting her Ian, his aura is bad. She is not to be left alone. I don’t want him to enter her mind and toy with her sanity. He could make her kill herself. I’ve seen him, and he’s one of the very bad ones. I’ll get Shani to meet her and we could do a cleanse. I have to talk to Shani first…”
“Dave, promise me, promise me you’d take care of her. Don’t let her spend time alone in jail, her mind will make her do things. He will kill her.”
Dave looked at her intently knowing that she always speaks the truth with him. He nodded and she finally relaxes back to her seat.
They talk for another hour until Lisa left but promised to keep in touch with Ian.
“You’re lucky that Lisa was here. I will let you know when you can get back to work. You might as well take care of her. Look, I’m sorry that she had to go through it, but we are the system, Taylor. You of all people should come to me, the first time to know about her. This is your strike one, you understand me?”
“Yes sir.”
“Good, now go while I’ll think of a way to report to them that she’s here in our city. She’s not to stay at yours Taylor. Put her somewhere else, but not at your residence. I don’t want it to reflect back to my precinct.”
“Yes sir.”
“Go… now, and get Simmons and Garcia to my office. You can accompany her until the bail is set and paid. Make her comfortable, it’ll be a long wait with the judge even with Simmons as her lawyer. But I’d still say that she’s lucky to find both of you…”
