Who is the problem
Chapter 52 Who is the problem?
JACE’S PENTHOUSE, NEW YORK. Jace groaned as his phone rang loudly. He blinked rapidly to adjust his eyes to the beaming sun. He let out a wince at the sharp ache in his head. He had a Migraine from his excess drinking last night. He managed to sit up and glanced around quickly for his damned phone that wouldn’t stop ringing. “What?” He bellowed at his brother on the other end. Xander sucked his teeth and switched to video call. Jace mumbled some incoherent words under his breath. Before he finally allowed the switch. “Are you drunk?” He asked. Jace sniffed and staggered towards the kitchen to get water. “The right question is, do I have a hangover? And yes, I do.” “Why is that?” He winced, rubbing at his head. “Please, Xander. You are not around, so do not make me worry about what you think of me. Do I not have the right to drink on the weekend after working my ass off all week and getting bossed around by that witch you call a friend?” Xander exhaled and ruffled his hair. “Her name is Dawn, and she is just doing her job. If you think she is a witch, what do you want the other staff to call her?” “Demon? Devils incarnate? Many suggestions that I could give.” “Cut the bullshit out. It’s until I return. Can’t you do that much?” Jace snatched an apple from the fridge and bit into it with relish. “You haven’t tried to talk to me all week. Why are you calling now? Do you suddenly realize you have a brother? And mum has been dialing me silly. I don’t understand her obsession with you.” He shivered like he had goosebumps on him. “Like I care about whatever it is you and your mum are up to. How is Nina? Have you heard from her?” “I make sure to set my eyes on her every day, and I know she is hale and hearty, working her butt off to make you proud.” “Is something wrong with her phone then?” “None that I know of.” “Why is she not picking up my calls?” “Is that question directed to me? Because I have no answer to that.” Xander ignored his brother’s sarcasm. “I called Carla, too, and she said she is fine but refuses to talk to me. I can’t reach her either.” “I bet you are the only one with the problem. Maybe you did something wrong.” “No, I didn’t. I spoke to her the day I landed, and she sounded fine. What could have changed overnight?” Jace shrugged. “You never know with this woman.” He said, still chewing loudly on the apple. “Shouldn’t you take some aspirin for the headache?” “Thanks for the reminder, brother.” He grinned, searching his cabinet for one. Popping the pills in his mouth, he downed it with water. “Now that I know you are in the right frame of mind. I need you to help visit Nina and do some grocery shopping on her behalf.” Jace leaned against the kitchen island and shook his head as if embarrassed. “So you were only keen on my welfare because you need me for your woman?” “Is that too much for you to do?” “Let the universe know that I do not like you, and there is a probability we are not blood-related because I do not understand your cold treatment of me. You are not my true brother.” Xander looked bored on the other end. “When you are done performing, please get to work. I will pay you nicely.” “Oh, my, you don’t have to, but five hundred thousand dollars sounds just fine.” “You didn’t tell me fraud was your new intent.” “But you are well aware now.” He said. Xander laughed lightly. “I don’t know what I would do with you.” Jace laughed, too. “How are you, though?” “I am thriving. I do not like it here, and I can’t wait to come home.” “You are not missed here. Just stay where you are.” “That wasn’t what I heard in your voice note last night. You said you miss me and can’t wait to see me.” He teased. “I will be damned if that ever crosses my mind. Get off my phone, Xander.” “Don’t forget to check on Nina, please.” “Yes, boss.” He snorted and ended the call. Jace rested for another hour after texting Tania that he would like to eat lunch with her. Afterward, they would grocery shop for Nina, to which she agreed. He woke up just in time and drove the long hours to Brooklyn to pick Tania up. Minny’s call came in when he was a few miles away from reaching Tania. He huffed before responding. “Is there any important reason for this call?” He questioned, sounding disinterested. Minny chuckled like he said something funny. “Is that the way to greet your girl?” “Get on with whatever it is you have to say, Minny. And need I tell you that you are not my girl? The last time I checked, that fact was established.” “Jace, baby. What is the matter? Why are you acting up?” “I am sure that question is not directed at me. I need to go.” He said when Tania’s call came in. He hung up on Minny and answered the call. “Hey, mama.” “Where are you?” Tania asked. “I am close to the campus gate.” “Okay, I am by the ice cream shop next to the place. You should spot me as soon as you get here.” Jace saw her as described. Tania got into his car with a smug look on her face. “Is it just me, or do you seem excited?” Tania giggled. “I am just happy knowing I would be surprising Nina. She doesn’t know that I would be coming with you.” “She has no idea what I am about to do, too. Xander asked that I make the delivery today itself.” “I must say, he is so caring towards her.” “That is Xander’s true character. But for Nina, he is a bit extra. Anyway, how is my angel doing?” Tania cut him a side glare. “Stop using the flirty tone with me. No matter what you say. I am not going to be your girl. So you can stop trying.” “Then I wouldn’t be living up to my masculinity. If I stop trying just because you say so.” “Aren’t you disrespecting my desire like that?” “I am responding to your true desire.” He wiggled his brows at her. She flushed, turning her face away. “Just drive, please.” “Of course.” He drawled with a wink that had her blushing red like a tomato.Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
