Chapter 988: You’re Worth the Earth (2)
At noon, after lunch with Engracia and Lastra, Paula Rouco picked up Engracia’s wedding invitations and got up with her purse, intending to leave first.
Lastra said, “Paulita, I guess you didn’t come by car.”
Paula Rouco couldn’t help but wonder, “How do you know?”
Lastra snorted a soft laugh, “Mr. Severo next to his wife’s slave, how can he be comfortable with you going out alone.”
Paula Rouco felt helpless, “He confiscated my driver’s license and I can’t drive.”
“Then Engracia and I will drive you back and save you a cab.”
Paula Rouco said, “No, I’m going to go to the office to see Severo Laris and while I’m at it I’ll pass on your wedding invitation.”
Lastra instructed, “The group is close by, or you can ask Mr. Severo to send someone to pick you up, it’s pretty sunny outside, you don’t want to get sunstroke.”
Paula Rouco nodded and scoffed, “Lastra, when did you become more of a nag than Severo Laris, won’t Mrs. Lastra be upset if you do that to the future Mrs. Lastra in the future?”
Engracia laughs, “She gives me a lot of grief, I read for more than two hours and she takes the book away from me in one blow, saying it’s bad for the eyes.”
Paula Rouco looked at them in love, not as if they were pretending, and it was clear that they really liked each other.
Paula Rouco motioned to them, “I’m leaving then, Blanco.”
When Paula Rouco left, Lastra called Severo Laris directly and told him where Paula Rouco was.
After the call, Engracia looked at Lastra with a strange look.
“Why are you so worried about Paula Rouco? Lastra, your fiance is still sitting next to you.”
Lastra smiled elegantly, approached Engracia’s shoulder and explained patiently, “You don’t even know how much of a slave Mr. Severo is, if I didn’t report this, Mr. Severo would give me a hard time. If anything happens to Mrs. Laris, my annual salary of ten million dollars will not be enough to cover it.”
Engracia gave him a blank stare, “Outrageous, have you all become Paula Rouco’s slaves?”All content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
“I don’t think she’s a slave. You don’t have to be hostile to Paula Rouco, Zeng. Paula Rouco sometimes speaks badly and tells the truth, and it’s true that people who tell the truth are not very popular nowadays…”
Engracia said deliberately and coldly, “Why did you marry me if you think Paula Rouco is as good as Severo Laris?”
Paula Rouco is not bad as a friend, but as a wife I can’t stand her. Mr. Severo and she are perfect for each other, they are perfect for each other, and as for me, I’m better off with my classmate.”
Having said this, Lastra gave Engracia a kiss on the cheek.
Engracia warmed up and glared at him, “What are you doing in public?”.
Lastra raised an eyebrow, “I kiss my fiance and I don’t have to bother anyone else?”
Engracia picked up her purse, stood up and kicked him, “Go on, go deliver the wedding invitations to your other friends.”
“Okay.”
Lastra got up and walked over, taking Engracia’s hand in one hand and grabbing the bag from Engracia’s hand in the other, slung over one shoulder.
Climbing into the passenger seat, Engracia looked at the calendar; she and Lastra were getting married early next month.
I can’t help but think back to my younger days in college.
Time went by so fast, she and Severo Laris met when they were students at Imperial University, and at the time, she thought she would never look at another man after meeting Severo Laris in her life.
But now, she is getting married to this man, Lastra.
Her husband, to whom she will be married for the rest of her life, is not as stunning and waspish as Severo Laris, but kind and refined, with a good sense of humor.
Meeting Paula Rouco today brought back memories of her past.
The third year since Severo Laris and Paula Rouco separated, and Severo Laris had a successful start to his career in New York.
She had traveled from Washington to visit Severo Laris, thinking that, even if he did not feel love for her, he at least had a special attachment to an old friend.
The two toured the lively and colorful street scene of Wall Street at night.
Talking about some of the things going on in the private equity industry.
But soon, Severo Laris’ eyes were drawn to a Chinese-run fast-food cart store not far away.
Severo Laris groaned, “Wait a minute, I’m going to get something.”
He saw Severo Laris walking to the fast food cart, then buying a cup of latte and a bowl of spicy stew and putting it away.
When Severo Laris returned, he looked at him in amusement and asked, “Since when do you like this stuff?”
In the world of mature adults, lattes and spicy stew are snacks, and unhealthy ones at that.
Severo Laris: “This is my dinner tonight.”
He was so busy at work that he hadn’t eaten yet.
She looked at him with good humor and amusement, helpless to the core, “Well, at least I’m a beautiful woman, is it really appropriate for you to buy your own dinner in front of a beautiful woman? Shouldn’t you invite me over for a candlelight dinner or something?”
Severo Laris slapped his forehead as an afterthought and smiled slightly like a gentleman, “Forgotten.”
Thinking he was eating nonchalantly to save time, she said, “Even if you’re busy at work, you have to eat on time, how can you eat this?”
Severo Laris’ gaze suddenly darkened and unconsciously said, “Like when I miss her.”
Engracia holds her forehead: “…”
This one, although Severo Laris did not name her, knew he was referring to Paula Rouco, a woman who had completely disappeared from Severo Laris’ world.
“So, were you talking to me about something while you were thinking about another woman?”
“…”
She was so haughty and defiant that at that moment she was furious and couldn’t resist saying, “Severo Laris, you tell a woman that you love another woman, no wonder you’re single. May you be alone for the rest of your life.”
The memory of her blurting out those words and clicking her heels in embarrassment as she walked quickly forward.
But then Severo Laris was faintly heard behind him muttering, “If it weren’t for her, what’s wrong with being single for the rest of your life?”
Perhaps it was then that he died completely of love for Severo Laris.
Henceforth, few flew to New York to meet the man named Severo Laris.
Later, Severo Laris’ career grew and her group, which also had business relations with the MO Group, never hid from the fact that she had been a student and close friend of Severo Laris, and must have let him go completely by then.
Not avoiding it is the only way to really let it go.
Good thing a geek like Severo Laris is only worthy of a geek like Paula Rouco.
Engracia snapped out of her memories, closed the window, turned her head to the man driving beside her and reached out to shake his arm.
Lastra looked at her with a slight smile, releasing one hand and interlacing his fingers.
Engracia leaned slightly to her side, leaning against Lastra’s shoulder, and said, “I didn’t know before how wonderful it was to be in love, I thought it was wonderful to like someone.”
Lastra smiled slightly, “And may I ask Ms. Now does Lastra appreciate how wonderful it is to have two lovers in love?”
Engracia closed her eyes slightly, satisfied, “Of course.
Maybe Severo Laris and Paula Rouco, because of the beauty of their love for each other, have to stay together even if they have gone through a lot of pain, because the sweetness of their love for each other is so sweet that even if they swallow the glass crumbs, they will still be happy to be together.
To love someone is to be happy, to be miserable, to be lost, but to love each other is unparalleled beauty.
