Chapter 38
Chapter 38
Lucy drove to the Figueroa family in a hurry, and when she reached, Caden had already been waiting at the door for a long time. "Mommy, Aunt Kylah has been crying the whole time. I asked her to come out to eat, but she won't!"
He threw himself at her and hugged her legs. He sounded disheartened.
"Alright, mommy will go check on her with you. Don't worry." Lucy carried Caden and walked to Kylah's bedroom while the servants, who were at a loss on what to do, watched her.
"What happened?" Lucy asked a nearby servant.
The servant shook her head, looking confused. "Miss Kylah suddenly started crying. I don't know what's going on either."
"Okay, I got it. Take Caden and leave us." Lucy handed Caden to the servant and asked the butler for the key to Kylah's room.

As soon as the key fit the lock, Kylah yelled angrily, "Who said you could open the door? Get lost!"
Then, there was a loud smash. Kylah must have hurled a vase at the floor.
Lucy ignored her yells and continued unlocking the door.
As soon as she opened the door, a glass flew right at her face, and she dodged hastily.
The glass fell to the floor and broke into pieces.
"You... why are you here?" Kylah was holding another glass, but when she saw that it was Lucy, she set it down and continued to cry.
Lucy carefully skirted the mess on the floor and teased her, "Babe, why are you crying waterfalls? All your mascara's smudged."
"Get lost!" Kylah pulled out a tissue and blew her nose into it loudly. Her voice sounded thick and nasal. "I'm crying so sadly, but you're still in the mood for jokes? Don't you have any sympathy?"
"What sympathy? I don't even know why you're crying!" Lucy leaned against the wall and looked down at Kylah, who was sniffling.
Kylah glared at her and complained why sobbing, "I...I definitely...did something terrible in my past life...to deserve a friend as bad as you! Don't...don't you have anything nice to say?"
Tears and snot flowed again, and Kylah reached out for tissue just to find that the two boxes of tissue were finished!
"Here!" Lucy handed her a packet of tissue.
Kylah took it and used one to wipe her snot. "What's that scent? It's...so horrible!"
"Since you're still in the mood to complain about the tissue's scent, it proves you aren't that sad." Lucy
snatched her tissue back.
"Lucy, do you still have a conscience? I gave your troublesome family almost a million, but you're still stingy with a packet of tissue?!" Kylah tried to push herself up off the floor.
However, maybe because she had been squatting for a long time and her legs had gone numb, she lost her balance and plopped onto the floor.
Lucy went to help her as her smile disappeared. "Have you been crying for very long? What happened?"
Kylah ignored her and staggered to the bedside, where she sat down and massaged her sore legs.
Just as Lucy thought she wouldn't say anything, Kylah suddenly said, "Oliver broke up with me."
"Why?" Lucy frowned. Kylah and Oliver's relationship had always been strong. Why would they suddenly break up?
Kylah shook her head and her tears flowed again. "He said he wanted to break up with me and ended the call. I called him again, but he...didn't answer."
"You didn't look for him?"
"... I don't dare to."
Lucy poked her on the head. "You even dare scold Arthur. Why wouldn't you dare to look for Oliver and ask him the reason?"
"Don't poke my head. You've already poked my common sense away!" She didn't dare to look for Oliver because she was afraid that he had really made up his mind to break up with her.
After knowing her for so many years, Lucy could pretty much guess what she was thinking. "Kylah, let's go. Let's go get things straight with him!"
"I don't want to go!" Kylah slapped her hand away and scooted backwards. The timid version of Kylah was the complete opposite of her usual self.
"If you don't get to the bottom of it now, what do you plan to do? Pretend he never broke up with you?" Lucy reached out to pull Kylah. "Come on!"
This time, Kylah didn't slap her hand away but let Lucy pull her along.
Lucy drove her to Oliver's office and gave him a phone call. However, even after a few tries, nobody answered. During the last few times, he even sent her straight to voicemail.
"Stop calling him. He won't pick up." Kylah was curled up in the passenger seat, looking vulnerable like never before.
Just as Lucy was about to say something, she suddenly saw a familiar figure.
"Oliver!" She shouted and dashed out of the car. She got a hold of Oliver, who was trying to run away.
Kylah was looking at Oliver, but she pulled her foot back just as she was about to get out. Before that day, she had never thought that she would ever be so cowardly.
"Can I help you?" Oliver dared not look Lucy in the eye as he spoke to her.
Lucy refused to let go of him for fear that he would run away. "Why did you break up with Kylah? Does she not treat you well enough?"
"It's not a matter of whether she treats me well enough. I already told Kylah we're breaking up." His colleagues, who were passing by, knew Oliver, and he tried to shake Lucy's hand off.
"Then what's the matter?" Lucy tightened her grip. She had to get to the bottom of it on Kylah's behalf!
"That's Oliver from our department. He has a flawless girlfriend!"
"So what his girlfriend's flawless? Too bad her family won't approve of a poor lad like him!"
Right then, two guys who worked there walked past, and their conversation reached Oliver's ears.
They hadn't kept their voices down as though they intentionally wanted Oliver to hear them.
"Are you guys done?!" Oliver didn't know what triggered him, but his patience broke. He shook Lucy off and yelled at the two guys.
He was a polite and smart-looking man, but right then, his face was flushed and there was a look of fury in his eyes. He looked very scary.
The two guys glanced at him strangely and left while talking.
"Do you understand now?" Oliver looked at Lucy. His anger was mixed with bitterness. "Someone like me is out of Kylah's league. Her family will never approve of us getting married!"
"But Kylah doesn't care about these things. You guys can just wait a few more years until her parents give in, then get married." Lucy never expected this to be the reason for their breakup.
Oliver laughed self-mockingly. The bitter look in his eyes got more intense. "But my father is sick. He only has six more months to live, so I must get married within those six months. Could that be possible with Kylah?"
Lucy was shocked. She did not know that Oliver's father was ill...
He added, "Even if things work out with Kylah, there's no way I can date her! I've had enough with people calling me a gigolo!"
Kylah walked over. Without even looking at him, she pulled at Lucy and said, "Lucy, let's go."
"...Okay." Lucy turned around to look at Oliver, only to find him crouching on the floor, crying in public. All his anger was gone.
She thought Kylah would look back at him, but she didn't even spare him a glance.
"Lucy, have a few drinks with me." Only when they got into the car did Kylah bite her lip and cry sorrowfully.
