Chapter 96
Chapter 96
96 A Stirred Past and Present
Emma, feeling as though Alex was an inescapable presence in her life, found herself sharing lunch with
Desmond at a new restaurant. Despite her efforts to focus on Desmond’s company, she couldn’t help
but feel distracted, her gaze wandering around the restaurant.
Desmond, frustrated with Emma’s lack of attention, voiced his displeasure. “I thought today was about
us, yet here you are, lost in your thoughts. Is my company that uninteresting to you?” His tone carried a
mix of hurt and irritation.
Emma, realizing she had been unintentionally neglecting him, offered a hurried apology. “No, it’s not
that. I’ve just been a bit preoccupied lately. Tell me, how’s the restaurant business coming along?”
Their conversation took a turn towards Desmond’s new venture, but Emma’s mind was elsewhere,
lingering on her past with Alex and the complicated emotions that came with it.
As they discussed, Desmond suddenly leaned in, his voice dropping to a more serious tone. “Do you
still have feelings for Alex? Even after all this time and everything that’s happened?”
Emma paused, her expression pensive. “Feelings don’t just disappear overnight, Desmond. What Alex
and I had… it was complicated, but it was real. Moving on takes time.”
Desmond nodded, a somber understanding in his eyes. “I get it, Emma. I just… I wish things were
different.”
Their lunch continued with a new level of understanding, but the atmosphere was heavy with unspoken
thoughts and feelings.
Meanwhile, Alex, sitting across the restaurant with Nathan and Louis, found himself unable to keep his
eyes off Emma. Nathan noticed this and nudged him, “Why don’t you go over and say hello? Clear the
air, maybe?”
Alex shook his head, his voice tinged with regret. “It’s not that simple, Nathan. What’s done is done.
There’s no going back now.”
Lennox, observing the dynamic, offered his insight. “It’s always complicated with exes, isn’t it? But
sometimes, a simple hello can open doors you thought were closed forever.”
Encouraged by Louis’s words, Alex stood up and made his way towards Emma and Desmond. His
approach, however, was met with a cold reception from Desmond.
“Look who decided to join us. What brings you here, Alex? Can’t stay away from Emma, can you?”
Desmond’s words were sharp, laced with accusation.
Emma’s eyes widened in surprise, and she tried to intervene, but Alex spoke first. “Desmond, this isn’t
what it looks like. I just wanted to
“Save it, Alex. Your actions speak louder than your words. You had your chance and you blew it. Emma
deserves better,” Desmond interrupted, his gaze fixed on Alex with a mix of defiance and
protectiveness.

spectacle. Emma, feeling overwhelmed and embarrassed, stood up abruptly. “I need to get some air,”
she muttered, quickly exiting the restaurant.
Alex watched her leave, a deep sense of loss washing over him. He had come over to bridge the gap,
but instead, he had only widened it further.
Nathan and Lennox, witnessing the scene, exchanged glances. “Maybe some things are better left
unsaid,” Nathan remarked, a hint of sympathy in his voice.
Lennox nodded in agreement, his thoughts drifting to his own complicated family dynamics.
Sometimes, the past is a puzzle that can’t be solved, no matter how hard we try.”
Alex, left standing in the middle of the restaurant, felt a profound sense of isolation. He had hoped for
closure but found only more questions and unresolved feelings.
As Emma stepped outside, the cool air hit her face, bringing a moment of clarity. She realized that
moving on from Alex would be a journey, one step at a time, and that her heart still had healing to do.
