CHAPTER 5
Chapter 5
NORA
I was stunned by his words, they were firm and assuring.
“You would help me? Why?” I found myself asking, my eyes unable to let go of him.
He looked away. It was clear that he had thoughts in his head but found it difficult to say out loud.
“I just want to help you, nothing attached. I feel that’s the best thing I can do to get you out of here.” He said strongly.
I stared at him. He was a king, ruler of the Lycan, the strongest bast on the earth. The stories I heard about him are nothing like the man in front of me. I have heard stories about his merciless wrath and judgment but the man before me was kind and caring, in a way that made me very uncomfortable.
My ordeal in the woods flashed through my mind.
I lay on the sand. the heavy rain kept pouring down on me as I waited for death. I knew when deep darkness swallowed me but I could feel myself being lifted by someone, a very strong arm as heavy wind blew on me and I felt like I was floating.
He was the one.
He saved my life and now he wants to help me
nodded at him, speechless.
“You have to rest.” He said and began to head out of the room.
There wasn’t a slight emotion on his face, since I met him, I didn’t see a smile on his face. It was very hard for me to read through him, a strange king I must say.
The door closed and I laid back on my bed. With heavy thoughts and my body grieving with pain, I slept off.
The days rolled by faster than I thought, Leo attended to me and soon, I found my physical pain gradually going away.
Jana, a blonde lady in her late twenties came regularly to attend to my needs. She tried to ease my boredom by telling me fascinating stories about the Lycan world and how fierce the Lycan King was
I was tempted to ask after him but I didn’t.
To my surprise, I didn’t get to meet the Lycan King after our first encounter. I don’t know his name and I felt surprised at how I wished he could walk through that door.
Soon, days rolled into weeks and finally into a month. At this point, I knew that I was strong enough to head out of the pack
Jana walked in with a dress.
“The king wants to see you.” She announced.
Llooked up at her surprised. “He wants to see me?”
She nodded. “He asked that I get you dressed, he wants me to bring you into the throne room as soon as we are done.”
Puzzled, I got dressed, and together with Janice, for the first time here, I walked out of the room and into the pack.
My jaw dropped in awe. The Lycan pack was the biggest pack I have ever seen. Built on different acres of land magnificent buildings were adorned with flowers. It was ten times bigger than my pack and filled with people who wandered about.

“The commoners also live with the royals?” I asked Janice as we walked side by side.
She smiled
“Not at all, these people here are just guests, there is a huge gate which divides the palace and the village. Soon, I would love to take you on a tour around the village, you will love it.”
I was stunned. Here I was thinking this was the entire pack, it was gorgeous and I wonder how many royal members are
here.
“You are quite a lucky one to be saved by the king, he hardly does that,” Janice said, bringing me out of my thoughts.
I narrowed my eyes. “Why do you say so?”
She shrugged her shoulders, “The king has no business saving people, he is a very principled man who cherishes his town more than anything else. I guess you are a lucky champ,” She giggled..
I said nothing.
Soon, we stood in front of a very large door.
“We are here,” Janice whispered and a guard guarding the entrance opened the door.
The throne room was large.
As I walked in, I could see the faces of different men who sat, watching me walk further.
I gulped down hard as my palms became sweary.
I gazed up and on a very large throne sat Him the Lycan King.
He was more handsome than I remembered and this time, he looked more like royalty. His black hair was neatly brushed and flowed graciously, and his sharp green eyes stuck on me as I walked closer to him.
Janice bowed and I followed suit.
“You can leave now.” He said to Janice, I glanced at her and she smiled warmly at me, assuring me that everything was fine.
As soon as Janice walked out of the room, the door was shut and everywhere was so quiet that I could hear my breathing.
“Welcome.” He said, his eyes scanned me. “It’s good to see that you are better now unlike the last time I saw you.”
I didn’t say a word or make any gesture.
A man among the midst of elders got on his feet.
“Who are you?” He asked.
Surprised, I wasn’t expecting such a question from anyone.
“Why do you want to know anything about me?” I asked, my voice echoing around the large room.
The men gazed at me in surprise and glanced at each other.
My eyes locked with Him, he didn’t say a word but watched me
“Our king saved you and I see no wrong in us wanting to know who the stranger is that we kept in our pack for over a
month.”

I stared at the man. “Why don’t the king do the questioning, he dived me, not you.” I pointed out,
The men looked even more stunned at my response,
The king chuckled and I looked at him, wondering what’s funny
“Listen.” He spoke out, his gaze not leaving me. “This isn’t the way things are being run on my pack. Once an elder asks you a question, you are meant to respond and not to retaliate.”
“Who said anything about retaliation? Of course, I am not and on grateful you saved me and kept me here with good çare. But back in my pack, the Alpha does the questioning and the elders support. And also, the king knows everything I am to say about myself, do I need to say that again.” I said firmly but calmly, making sure that there wasn’t a hint of an expression on my face.
He smiled. “I am not the elders, these men you see here have been here during my father’s reign, so in as much as you show me respect, you have to give them the same honor you give to me.
I didn’t say a word at first but stared hard. I walked towards the roen and bowed my head in respect.
“I am sorry and thank you for your hospitality,” I said.
The elder who first spoke nodded. “We don’t hold grudges, so we will let that slide. And I will ask again, who are you?” This time, his voice was hard and strict.
“I am Nora Aderson, daughter of the late Alpha Alexander who led the Firecold pack.”
The elder eyes hardened. “So you are indeed an Alpha.”
My stomach twisted at his words.
“I was supposed to become an Alpha I corrected and I felt my voice suddenly become hoarse.
“What happened? And why are you left almost dead in the woods?” He inquired.
I shut my eyes tight, the horrible pictures flooded my mind. All could hear was Derrick’s last words and Lara mockingly laughing.
“Please, I don’t want to talk about it,” I said, trying to compose my feelings.
The elder glanced at the king and back at me.
“You don’t have to because we are all aware of it.”
I looked at him, surprised.
“The king told us everything and that is the reason why we sent it to you. We have never invited an outsider into the throne room and for this to happen, it only means that the Lycan king has taken interest in you.”
My brows twisted. “I don’t understand what you mean.”
“Nora Aderson.” A man with gray hairs called out as he stood on his feet. “Meet our king, King Dimitri, a powerful Lycan who doesn’t go saving strangers in the woods but he did that with you. He told us his willingness to help you get back your pack and we are at his support as our king. But he paused, raising a finger. Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
“The king can help you on only one condition.”
Puzzled, 1 stared hard. “A condition? What condition?”
He nodded. “I am glad that you asked. We don’t interfere in Alpha’s businesses. As you can see, we are Lycans and our world

is different from yours So the Lycan king can only help you if you agree to be in a contract marriage with him, as soon as you have gotten what you want, the marriage will be dissolved.”
I froze in shock, my eyes widened as my hears dropped into my stomach.
“You all are joking.” I chuckled, hoping it was but they shook their heads.
“No way!” I yelled.
“There is no way that I am getting married to him as a condition for him to help me. If he doesn’t want to help, he should let me leave and not lay such a condition on me!” I fired, not hiding any anger and shock.
It was unbelievable.
What sort of a condition is this?
“This is the only way.” The first elder said.
1 was mad.
I glanced at the young king, he didn’t say anything but watched the whole thing.
“Really?” I raised my brows at him. “Is this how you render help? Is this because you know that I have nowhere to go or whom to run to? Are you trying to take advantage of me because of my predicament?” I stared at him, not caring if he was the all–powerful Lycan King.
Watch your tone lady!” One of the elders warned.
“Or what?” I fired at him. “Tell me? Or what? If you all are in search of a wife for your damn king, just say so and use this as a
tac
tic to lure me into marrying a man I know nothing of” I yelled, not hiding my anger.
Without waiting for a reply, I ran out of the throne room, tears welled up in my eyes.
