Betrayal At The Altar

Chapter 243 Come With Me Tonight

Perhaps it was when she broke off her relationship with Louis, or when she learned that Louis was not the person she had been searching for, or when she realized that her feelings for Louis were not love, but dependence. The Smith family had become a complete stranger to her.

How could there be so much love and hatred between strangers?

The reason why she wanted to take revenge on the Smith family was because the Smith family had provoked her and crossed her bottom line. Rachel picked up her wine glass and took a sip.

David looked up at her. “Is the food not to your liking?”

“It’s just that I don’t have much of an appetite.” Rachel put down her wine glass and casually wiped the corners of her mouth with a napkin.

David lowered his gaze to hide the coldness in his eyes. He said calmly, “Out of sight, out of mind.”

Hearing this, Rachel suddenly raised her gaze and stared at him. “What are you going to do?”

“I’ve only promised you that I won’t interfere in this matter, but that doesn’t mean that I’ll let them do whatever they want in the future.” David’s pitch–black eyes were like a bottomless well. His words carried his own arrogance, enough to make people tremble in fear. Property of Nô)(velDr(a)ma.Org.

He believed that Rachel had been subjected to unprovoked abuse solely because of the Smith family.

As long as the Smith family disappeared, Rachel’s life would become smooth sailing and no one would cause trouble.

Rachel vaguely sensed something from his expression and could not help but ask, “What did you do to the Smith family?”

“Take a guess?” David raised his eyebrows slightly and put a piece of prawn into his mouth to chew.

He flicked the prawn into his mouth with the tip of his tongue. It was just a simple action, but it displayed a terrifying charm.

Rachel lowered her gaze and held the wine glass beside her to hide the panic in her heart. “Forget it if you don’t want to say it.”

“What did you ask the Smith family for?” David asked.

Rachel’s eyes moved slightly. “1% of the Smith Group’s market value and the land at South Valley.”

She was not interested in the shares of Smith Group.

Since she had cut ties with the Smith family, the shares of the Smith Group were like a hot potato to her. Why would she be stupid enough to ask for their shares?

However, she felt that an insignificant lesson to the Smith family would not be enough to vent her anger.

She knew that Mrs. Smith was a vain person and a complete egoist. However, she doted on Jane and saw her as the apple of her eye.

True revenge was never just an eye for an eye. Instead, it was a steady, accurate, and ruthless strike to the other party’s heart.

What Mrs. Smith cared about the most were Jane and the Smith family’s current financial status.

However, the price for destroying the Smith family overnight was a little too much. Though, destroying Jane was different.

Moreover, this incident started because of Jane. It was justifiable to hold her

accountable.

On one side was the Smith family’s fortune, and on the other was her precious daughter. This was enough for Mrs. Smith to have to make a

difficult decision.

As for the plot of land at South Valley…

It was not of much use to her. It was purely to torment Louis.

She knew that the Smith Group wanted to tap into South Valley’s market, so

she naturally would not let them have their way.

Since they dared to provoke her, she would definitely hit them back with doublé the pain.

Otherwise, how could she live up to the word “vengeful“?

A faint smile appeared in David’s eyes when he heard that. He raised the wine glass in his hand. “We’re a match made in heaven!”

They were both ruthless.

They were both petty and would take revenge when crossed.

Rachel looked at the glass he raised in the air and smiled. She clinked glasses with him and drank the wine in her glass in one gulp.

“Are you free the day after tomorrow?” David asked.

Surprise flashed across Rachel’s eyes. “What’s the matter?”

“I’m taking you out for some fresh air,” David said. “There’s a charity dinner. I’m guessing you’ll be interested.”

“It just so happens that I’m going too.”

“That’s perfect.”

David walked over to Rachel as he spoke.

He slowly squatted down and brushed his clean and slender fingers across her cheek before landing on her lips. “Are you coming with me tonight?”

This simple sentence was a flirtatious invitation.
