Divorcing 421
Chapter 421 Dispute
Harold entered with a document, announcing an imminent meeting.
With a gloomy expression, James departed with Harold for the conference room.
Chloe watched his retreating figure, reflecting that after a period of acclimation, James no longer found the management of Bright Moon International as burdensome.
At least, during this stretch, the company had navigated smoothly without major issues.
Yet, she held a deep admiration for James.
His first love had just wed the previous day, yet he started working as if the event had been but a fleeting moment.
His emotional control was indeed commendable.
This marked the first time Chloe had sat at her workstation since her previous stint dealing with a virus.
Her colleagues curiously looked at her.
They even made eye contact with other acquaintances.© 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
Chloe didn't feel awkward and settled into her seat. Her fingers deftly played the game on her computer screen to kill time.
"You're incredible! You cleared the most challenging level in under a minute!"
The awe in the eyes of the young woman beside Chloe was palpable.
"It's merely a matter of understanding the program's code. Once you grasp that, it's quite straightforward."
Chloe's expertise in such games was evident.
"You're Chloe, right? Call me Molly. Why aren't you here full-time? It's exhausting just coming to work every day," Molly complained to Chloe.
Before Chloe could respond, her attention was drawn to someone striding down the nearby corridor.
"Why? Because she works here merely through connections. I thought you were capable, but it turns out you're just a fraud!"
The disdain in Vicky's eyes was unmistakable as Chloe looked into her eyes.
Molly, who had been conversing with Chloe, shrank back, falling silent upon seeing Vicky.
"Bright Moon International hired you to work, not to gossip on company time! If any of you are discontent, you're welcome to leave and play games at home 24/7." Vicky declared, her words unmistakably aimed at Chloe.
But Chloe ignored Vicky and continued the game.
Vicky's ire flared at this dismissal.
She approached in quick strides, yanking the power cord from the socket.
"I'm speaking to you; are you deaf?" Vicky demanded.
Chloe surveyed the now-black screen, a flicker of annoyance crossing her features. "This is the Security Department. Do you presume to oversee it?" "Regardless of the department, this is Bright Moon International. Do you game throughout your workday?"
"If you're displeased, you may request James to dismiss me," Chloe retorted.
If not for James' directive, Chloe would have long since returned home.
Vicky felt her argument deterred, and her anger was igniting a fiery gaze.
"Is it because James favors you that you dare to act with such impunity in the company?"
To label Chloe's actions as malevolent was a stretch.
"Chloe, don't delude yourself. You're merely angling for a higher rung on the social ladder. Dream on!"
Chloe clasped her hands, her interest piqued as she observed Vicky.
"Why do you assume everyone covets the man you fancy?"
James was undeniably handsome and came from a wealthy background.
But Chloe had recently extricated herself from another affluent family, so she found the mere sight of such opulence nauseating.
"It's 2024. Are you still engrossed in your petty rivalries?" Chloe challenged.
Vicky's face flushed red with rage. She yearned to strike Chloe but refrained, cognizant of the onlooking colleagues.
"Let's see. I'll ensure James fires you," Vicky vowed.
She turned to see James emerging from the elevator.
With a newfound sense of support, Vicky hastened to approach James.
"James, this is the employee your company has engaged. She plays games during work hours instead of fulfilling her duties!"
